Introducing the Beatles

Please, can anyone help me?

I have a stereophonic copy of Introducing the Beatles with a column back with the songs Love me Do and Ask Me Why. I've looked everywhere and some places say that it's a counterfeit, and others say that it's an original.

If it was an original, I'd faint, as it would be worth in excess of $7,000!

I'm 99.999999999999999% sure that it's a counterfeit, but there's a nagging feeling inside me saying that it might be an original. Does anyone know of a really good website that will tell me once and for all whether my copy is original or counterfeit before I go INSANE!

By the way, the disc is a fake. I'm 100% sure of that.

I have no idea, but there is a Beatles store near me that might know. Go to their website www.pepperlandmusic.com (http://www.pepperlandmusic.com) and you could e-mail them and ask. The owner knows a lot about Beatles merchandise. If you find out, please let us know if it is or isn't.

Harb, it is definitely a counterfeit! I have both original and re-released versions of that LP, and those two songs were never on the same album.
The original was released on July 22, 1963 and had "Love Me Do" and "P.S. I Love You". The re-release came out on Jan. 24, 1964 and had "Ask Me Why" and "Please Please Me". Both LPs did have the same catalog #VJLP 1062.

bearkat: Did you ever notice that the photo on the front of INTRODUCING THE BEATLES is flip-flopped? I caught that immediately many, many years ago. Also, my recording is mono. Remember all the flap created when VeeJay released it? Wasn't that label sued by Capitol or something like that? What's the scoop on this, 'kat? I seem to remember the VeeJay album being pulled from the stores shortly after I made my purchase.

Both of my LPs show the same photo however, the re-release crops off the bottom of the picture and has a white band at the top. Inside the band is the word "stereophonic" followed by the catalog number. My original copy is in Mono and shows the catalog number in the bottom right-hand corner.
VeeJay was just one of several record companies that released Beatles music. When Capitol finally jumped on the "bandwagon", they wanted exclusive rights to all material. After VeeJay repackaged this album two more times, namely "The Beatles vs. The Four Seasons" and "Songs, Pictures And Stories Of The Fabulous Beatles", the company finally gave up. Release dates were Oct. 1, 1964 and Oct. 12, 1964, respectly.
Capitol, not wanting to lose any monetary value from these songs, released them on the LP, "The Early Beatles". So America got this one LP 5 times.

I don't know much about albums, but it seems suspicious to me that you would have an amazingly valuble piece that is highly likely to be counterfeit, containing a fake album. There is a eensy-weensy teeny-weeny chance that it is real, but I'd guess it is fake. Don't real album covers contain real discs?

I am positive I purchased MY album in February of 1964. I guess that's why it's a mono recording. Anyway, 'kat, a flip-flopped photograph is one whose negative was turned over before being printed. Therefore, John's watch appears to be on his right hand, etc. Also, their hair is parted on the "wrong" side and their faces look kind of crooked. Ringo's scarred eyebrow is over the "wrong" eye, too. There were so many reasons why this flip-flop was OBVIOUS. Photographers often do this in order to make a photo fit better. Being the fanatic I was, it annoyed me that this was done to an album cover.

My "mono" version is an original, as well. I see what you mean by flip-flop. Since John was right-handed, the watch should be on his left wrist. As to why they altered the photo, we may never know.
