View Full Version : Goo Goo G' Joob

All right. I have to figure this out once and for all, if only because I want to sing along w. the right lyrics. In "I Am The Walrus," is it "goo goo g' joob" or "koo koo ka choo?" Maybe there isn't a right answer, but I want the vets to give me a hand here.

I think it is goo goo goo joob. These were humpty dumpty's last words before falling from the wall. (I am the eggman...)

Yup, it's goo goo g goob. Koo Koo ka choo is from Mrs. Robinson by Simon and Garfunkel.

its goo goo goo joob. If you look at the MMT album, that's when they started printing the lyrics and it says goo goo goo joob. (Well they started printing them in the albums in Sgt Pepper's)

I have a copy of John's handwritten notes to "I Am The Walrus" and it shows "goo goo joob" on it. So I rest my case.

BTW, who invited Frank Sinatra?

If you listen carefully, you can hear the "B" at the end of the Joob. But, who cares? Just sing it whatever way you want! http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/tongue.gif

Yes indeed it is "goo goo g' joob." I just watched the "Yellow Sub" movie, and at the part where the Beatles meet Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Heart's Club Band, John asks John if he's an extention of his own personality. He replies, "Yes, I am the alter-ego man." The Beatles' John then says, "And I am the ego man, goo goo g' joob." In this spoken part, it is easy to see that it is this & not the other. I always thought it was as such, but then Sleepy told me off and made me think twice. http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/frown.gif

That film would have been AMAZING, if only it was actually their own voices, and not actors', and if they'd have written or part-written the script.

Yes, the only part they had any direct dealings with the movie is at the very end, when they make their cameo appearance.

When I first saw it, I had no idea it wasn't the Beatles voices and I was so disappointed. It took me a while to get use to the voices of the characters. it's a cute movie but it would have been 100 times better if the Beatles had done the voices and the script as well. And the funny thing is, people say Yellow Submarine is the best Beatles movie. I wouldn't even consider it a Beatles movie.

Sorry, Eppy, didn't mean to sound "yelly"... I've had me teeth all pulled, makes me a tad "touchy". Nope, I agree the lyrics are intended to be, and I quote from the handwritten lyrics, "goo goo joob" and "goo goog joob"... However, that's not what I hear, and it's not what I sing when I'm singing along. I'm not arguing the lyrics... just defending my take on how to sing along with 'em http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/smile.gif

Forgive me, Eppy?

(Of course, now, I sound all mush-mouthed when I open my toofless mouth, LOL!)

True, too true... I only have 2 left, and they never descended to start with. Because they're right next to the sinus cavity, the doc left 'em there, in hopes my dentures will help rub 'em thru the outside of the gums so they can extract them without puncturing the sinuses. Thank you, OFan, it really wasn't fun (neither is eatin' maltomeal day in, day out!), but with a combination of bad tooth decay combined with serious sinus problems, which were exacerbated by heavy allergies... uh, well, it's gonna be all right, now! http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/smile.gif

I think it is goo goo goo joob. These were humpty dumpty's last words before falling from the wall. (I am the eggman...)

Incidentally, this isn't true.
In the Lewis Carroll book Humpty Dumpty is having a discussion with Alice about how people all look the same and he won't recognise her if they meet again. He says he'd recognise her if she had two eyes on the same side of her face or her mouth at the top. Here's the end of the conversation :

"It wouldn't look nice," Alice objected. But Humpty Dumpty only shut his eyes and said "Wait till you've tried."

And those are his last words before shortly after she leaves Alice hears ' a heavy crash ' that 'shook the forest from end to end.'

Carroll's joke seems to be that instead of wasting time about the possibility of recognising someone you next see him or her you should first make sure you don't do anyhting stupid like falling off a wall and killing yourself.

I thought I read somewhere that "goo goo g'joob" wasn't a reference to Lewis Carroll but to something written by James Joyce. I don't know what the writing could be, though; I've never read Joyce.
