my Dad was admitted to the hospital earlier today with pneumonia, they are not sure if there may be some other things going on with him, this happened quite suddenly after him having a physical exam last Wednesday and the physician giving him the news that he looked pretty healthy this past Monday 3/14, so any good thoughts or prayers would be appreciated, he is on New Jersey, I am in Ohio, so am am chomping at the bit... waiting for info...

I hope your dad gets out soon. :smile1:

My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.

I know soup doesn't cure this, but since you're always giving a cup of soup, maybe this will help you feel better? (c__)

A little update, my sister Carol said today, she sees a little bit more of an improvement, by Dad is as weak as a slug, he has several things going on, emphysema that is fighting his healing from the pneumonia, so some meds have been added, which added other meds to counteract the side effects... a Pulmonologist was called in to oversee the rest of this illness, my sister Carol & her son Marty(ex paramedic) were going to get Dad up for a short walk, that is the one thing that hasn't been done yet, getting him up? He is still receiving IV's and oxygen...

I want to thank all of you for your kind & loving words of encouragement, my family also thanks you... :smile1:

You know, my grandmother suffered from emphysema for 15 years, and stayed seated or in bed for most of those years  I am convinced that a walk now and then would have made her much happier and healthier. I'm sure just getting up and moving around will do a world of good for your dad! In any case, it's GREAT to hear that he's improving :smile1: We're all still thinking the best for you guys!

((hugs)) thanks that is so loving and kind, not to much of an improvement, they did a chest x-ray today(plan b is to be the CT Scan now, they wanted to save the cost of the CT if he was improved), that did not show much improvement from a couple of days ago, but Dad did at least get up in the chair a couple times today, he has short term memory loss, which he has had for a while(even before this hospitalization, btw he has only been in a hospital one other time in his life at 84,other than appendix removed as a kid & and up till now he has never taken any prescription medicine other than an antibiotic here & there through his whole life), but it gets worse at night, medical people call it "Sundowner's Syndrome" where with all the family gone, night falls & the person gets a little confused :cry5: you hate to see a man who has always been modest/quite dignified & your Dad to boot, get like that, hope that is temporary with all the medicines and all that....
thanks all ((hugs)) your the best!

My prayers continue. I understand what you mean Nancy about 'seeing him like that'...I think the hardest is the fact you can see in his eyes how he hates you seeing him like that. My father tries so hard to 'put up a front' when I visit...the mother tries to come out in me..and I have to remind myself..it hurts him more when I mother him...he just wants everything to be the same as before....(((((hugs)))

This all happened quite quickly(as in we won't get anymore money from Medicare on you while your here in the hospital !) but my Dad was sent to a physical rehab hospital today, they want to keep giving his breathing treatments, he is physically very weak, so not in any shape to go home, my Mom is 80 & quite healthy, but she is not strong enough to handle full care of my Dad, so till he is stronger, they will work on strengthening him, then we will see when he can get sprung & come home... thanks for all your well wishes :smile1:

Glad to hear that dad is improving, altho' slowly. It's so hard to see our parent's get older, isn't it. Will you have a chance to spend some time with him, soon?

:smile1: I wanted to leave a little update here, my Dad is doing a lot better, he still has a way to go in the Physical Rehab center, but maybe by next weekend (with God's grace & all the kind thoughts from friends all over)? He got up and walked without any aid to and from the restroom today, did it on the sly when no one was there... he is on a special diet right now, he had swallowing problems after all the coughing and all, he also has to take insulin temporarily till he is slowly weaned off prednisone(one of the many side effects of prednisone), still getting breathing treatments around the clock, guess he will really get a working out tomorrow after this holiday weekend, he kind of got transferred at a bad time with Good Friday and all, but we are blessed he is doing better, and has had so many very kind people wish him well..... thanks to all of you for you kind thoughts, my family thanks you too... :teeth1:

Yes good news...... Good to hear.....I had to crack a smile...I could almost feel the pride he must have felt to get off to the loo by himself. That is something my own father would have been snickering at....I am sure you understand what I mean.
My continued prayers.

((hugs)) Dad is having a CT scan of the brain Thursday to make sure there is no underlying problem, he had some serious speech problems & general weakness, along with some psychosis, the psychosis seems to have cleared, his speech is improved & he still has trouble swallowing, but not all up to par yet, then he has to see a neurologist Friday, he is still getting fairly intensive physical and occupational therapy, maybe home by this weekend? :teeth1: I'll let you know.....
