I was just wondering if the younger fans in here ever get slack for liking the Beatles more than any artist out there. Cause lord knows I have, people think I'm crazy cause I have Beatle patches and buttons and I have my binders decorated with their lyrics and pictures. I swear some people would be more lenient if I carried around a Backstreet Boy cut out. Does anyone else feel a misunderstood as I do?

I'm far from a teen anymore, but when I was (in the 70's) it was VERY uncool to be a Beatles fan, so I completely relate! Yes, others gave me grief too - I was always being asked why I liked "those old guys" (who were younger than I am now!); I give you credit for standing up to it and going your own way. That's not always easy at any age, but particularly as a teenager! Good luck!

For me personally, if I ever hear somebody say they don't like the Beatles, or aren't really into them . . . I just start feeling incredibly sorry for them!

I remember my teen years all too well. Hardly anyone in my circle of friends liked the Beatles. If I was to mention anything about them, they would do this: http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/rolleyes.gif
Some days the peer pressure could seem to be smothering you, but stick to your beliefs. No matter what people may say about the Beatles, those that rag them are really just "closet" fans.

Luckily, my cirlce of friends don't mind the Beatles that much, but they aren't huge, 'huge fans like I am. One thing that irritates them a bit though is when I read through small biographies about the Beatles in school books and spot all the mistakes.
I've managed to get a number of people interested in the Paul is Dead rumours, and my mother is half convinced that it really happened!

I'm 17, and obsessed with them, while most everybody else is obsessed with Limp Bizkit and Korn. But I don't really get made fun of
for it. Alot of them like "old guys" like Zeppelin, Hendrix, The Who, The Stones, and, yeah,The Beatles. My constant raving about them has gotten a lot of people I know to check them out. At this age, your mind becomes a little open, but I wish everyone would get over the teenybopper rap\metal phase.
Anyone who puts down The Beatles usually hasn't heard anything but Love Me Do or I Wanna Hold Your Hand. One listen to I Am The
Walrus or Eleanor Rigby or Strawberry Fields always impresses those people ignorant of The Beatles. It might even convert them.

I get made fun of a lot because I like The Beatles. You see I'm 17 and everyone at my schools like "Hey that was like the 60's dude, come into the now!" and all I have to say is a lot of music now a day's sucks, and is also just remakes of music from the 60's and 70's. The good thing is, is that all my buddy's like The Beatles, not as much as me, but it helps be be around others who like the same things as you.

Yeah, I'm 19 and I've liked The Beatles since I was 12. When I was in Junior High, EVERYone thought I was pretty lame for liking them. And yet, that only made me more proud that I was different than them.
Now that I'm 19, this is really sad but I still don't know ANYone my age that likes The Beatles. It sucks cuz NObody understands why I love them so much. They're like a part of my life!!

I think what gets me more than not having anyone like me living in the vicinity of my town is that when people find out I like the beatles they have to either tease me or the music. And I get up in arms about it cause they aren't just making fun of a group I like they are basically cutting me down since the beatles were my life for a period of years since I was so shy. Aggh I feel like my writing is making any sense so I'll stop now.

I can totally relate because I went through the exact same thing. I got hooked on the Beatles around 1984 when I was a sophmore in high school. My drama teacher loaned me "Magical Mystery Tour" and I was hooked. At that point I bought up anything and everything Beatles I could get my hands on. They were all I listened to, all I thought about and all I read about for several years. Many people thought I was strange because I wouldn't listen to anything else. Then I turned a couple of my friends on to the Beatles and they became hooked too! The truth is, the Beatles music is timeless and will always have a following simply because its great music. And for these morons that are into these goofy boy bands, two years from now the Backside Boys will be an afterthought while the Beatles following will always exist. Pleeeez! In a few years people will be embarrassed to even admit they listened to those ridiculous boy bands.

It seems like a lot of people born post beatle mania are turned onto beatles music by Magical Mystery Tour, I myself being one. Since I joined this message board I've met atleast 6 or 7 people that liked the MMT album first.

That's weird, HeyBeatle, I myself got into The Beatles after hearing Magical Mystery Tour. I thought I was the only one. It was because of, not surprisingly, Strawberry Fields Forever. I've loved that song since I was about 9.

Well I know what you mean. I'm 15 and while my "friends" (more like aquaintances really) know who the Beatles are, they don't really care. They kinda shrug and say "Oh yeah, my dad likes them." Whereas I've been a Beatlemaniac (though a very minor one compared to some) for as long as anyone (including my parents and myself) can remember. I recently found out my friend Ashley didn't dig the band at all; and I'd never met anyone who actually disliked them before. I know it was inevitable, but it's still disenchanting.

That's cool my fav songs off of MMT are I am the walrus, strawberry fields forever and penny lane. that's really cool.
To respond to what pyromaniac said: I know what you mean you wouldn't think anyone could absolutely hate the Beatles but there are a few and even then I think they don't dislike them as much as they say.

I think that everyone has the potential to love The Beatles because they are so universal. If those friends would only give them a chance, they might discover that they're not so bad after all or that they are totally wonderful.
On the other hand though, as I've suggested before, would a true fan be one that wasn't naturally attracted to them? Would they ever really adore them as much as possible?

A lot of people see them as just some bubblegum pop band. The media unfortunately talk too much about the fun, harmless pop songs, and not enough about the more advanced songs like Sexy Sadie and Helter Skelter, songs that are incredible even today. Listening to the ''mature'' Beatles, like MMTour will convert anyone.

Originally when I was maybe 8 or 9 I was into the Beatles because of the poppy songs or the songs that I ever so innocently thought were just goofy songs ( Why is lucy in the sky mom? Can she fly?) but as I got older I realized they're so much more then the pop band they are made out to be. Now I've become a full fledged Beatle maniac.

When I first started liking them, their psychedelic songs were my favorites. Sgt. Pepper was the best. Once I REALLY got into them, ALL of it was my favorite- from Love Me Do to I'm So Tired. John's songs were always high on my favorite Beatles songs list. Not that I HAVE a Beatles songs list...too hard to choose. Are there any songs out there that you guys DON'T like by the Beatles? Personally, I could do without Boys (I know it wasn't written by them...but I still hate it), Honey Pie, and Rev. 9.

Well, I was fourteen when I started to get overly obsessed with The Beatles and I'm almost eighteen now, I'm always being asked why I don't listen to new stuff. People give me weird looks when I walk into a crowded place wearing a Beatles' shirt and there's always this one person who is going to make fun of you because you're listening to something 'like that'. But I'm so proud of being a Beatle's fan that I just don't care :) and they make me feel better everyday.

Well, I actually started listening to them 2-3 years ago, and the past year has been possessive. I started reading books in school, people noticed that, they also notices my beatles pen, badge, notebook, stickers and everything. But , I guess I have been picked up a few times, but like friendly, nothing personal. I don't know why so many people get picked up for listening to them, people actually find it interesting that i listen to them. Sure it gets pretty awkward when someone asks me have you heard the new kesha/perry/gaga song and im like " Yeeeeeeah, well ... yeaahh , nooo " and they are always listening to that new stuff and of course I listen to some more recent songs, but ... hell im just a 60's obsessor and i can't help it!
p.s. Sorry for my english, i guess i just suck in english also . (:

I'm thirteen and I became fully obsessed last year. Sometimes I'm glad I'm obsessed with the Beatles and not modern music because...well, why are you obsessed? The Beatles are awesome musicians and their singing is good. Why do most teenagers like modern "songs"? Because it's "cool" to like new things. We have much better reasons.

one day I wore a shirt that said "Love is all you need." and a girl said that some random band sang it. She had no idea that it was a Beatles song....

Yay for resurrecting really old threads! :teeth1: I was 12 when I started to really get into them, tho I had always liked them even when I was really little. And yeah, I got made fun of for that somewhat up until 8th grade cuz it was like "you like yer parents music??? EWWW!" But once I got into high school I met other people who liked not just the Beatles but other classic rock groups as well. It was kinda considered cool, that you werent just following the mainstream.
