I bet I'm the only person on this forum who likes this show--but I absolutely love it. I don't like most of the "reality" shows but the strategy in this one is why I love it, and why I want to go on the show when I turn 21 (4½ years!!)
But in case there are any other Survivor fans here, I thought we could discuss the new season, Survivor: Palau, which starts this Thursday. If not, I'll post my recaps here each week, so that everyone can read them when they're bored waiting for 5:00 to roll around on Friday afternoons at work.
BTW, if you need a reminder as to who was in which season/what happened each season so you know how to vote (winners in bold)...
BORNEO: Rich, Rudy, Sue, Gervase, Colleen...eating rats, first Pagonging
AUSTRALIAN OUTBACK: Tina, Colby, Elisabeth, Jerri...Mike falls in fire, Jerri's less-than-mutual crush on Colby
AFRICA: Ethan, Lex, Tom...first ever twist (tribe swap), Ethan and Lex deliver AIDS medicine to an African village
MARQUESAS: Vecepia, Kathy, Paschal, Sean, Boston Rob...Kathy pees on John's hand after a jellyfish attack, the great Rotu 4 power shift
THAILAND: Brian, Shii Ann...fake merge, biggest Pagonging ever (7 people)
AMAZON: Jenna, Rob Cesternino, Heidi, Christy (first deaf contestant)...camp burns down, Jenna cries when she doesn't get a letter from home, Jenna and Heidi get naked for peanut butter and chocolate, men vs. women start
PEARL ISLANDS: Sandra, Jonny Fairplay, Rupert...Rupert whines when he's voted off, the Outcasts twist, Osten quits the game, pirate theme
ALL STARS: Amber, Boston Rob, Rupert, Tom, Shii Ann, Lex...Rich and Sue have a close encounter, Sue and Jenna M. quit the game for personal reasons, Amber and Boston Rob fall in love, Lex cuts his own throat by saving Amber
VANUATU: Chris, Twila, Eliza, Ami, Chad (first amputee), Sarge, Rory...male vs. female start, Chris is the last man with six women left and ends up winning, Twila swears on her son and changes her mind
My personal ranking:
1. Outback
2. Pearl Islands
3. Borneo
4. Marquesas
5. All Stars
6. Vanuatu
7. Amazon
8. Africa
9. Thailand
Oh, and let's not make this a "let's bash reality TV" thread, all right?

I don't know who it was who took the poll, but we agree on everything except for watching the season I'm in! http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif Mystery Person, step forward so I can change the topic subtitle!

Did you pick Pearl Islands as your favorite?
I would have picked it as mine but the Outcasts twist knocks it down a notch...I hated that.

Whoa, now that would be something I'd definitely watch! http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggrin.gif
I think they screened one season of Survivor through Canal Fox a couple of years ago... I didn't watch it so I wouldn't know which one of them was it. Sounds like something I'd enjoy watching, though.

i am a survivor fan....although i am picky about the ones that i watch.
if i don't particularly enjoy the people they have on, i stop watching.
i loved borneo, australian outback & all-stars. those were the ones that
i was fairly faithful in watching. seems like when they pick people based
solely on their appearance, it is no guarantee that it is interesting!
p.s. couldn't stand that jonny fairplay guy! what a toad! :frog:
oh, and i'll tune in if you're on in 4 years, are you going as "Ringo Rama?"
:wink2:

Maybe...but I think they frown upon lying on the application. :wink2:
Fairplay annoyed me too...but I loved the dead grandma thing. To this day, I still laugh whenever I think about that.
Survivor: Palau starts tomorrow night! So far, the cast looks interesting. Definitely looks better than last season.

One episode into the season, and it is already 50 times better than Vanuatu.

I enjoyed this one too! Hope there are some truly nice people on here.

Getting ready for tomorrow night...I hope it's as good as last week. Koror is probably my favorite tribe ever, so I hope they can get their fire.

Can somebody delete the poll? It's really screwed up and it doesn't matter anyways.
So who else watched on Thursday? Another great episode. I really hope that the Jeff/Kim love connection is broken up. Jeff seems to get injured this week; hopefully he'll quit or something.
Of the 16 left, I like 12 of them: all nine people on Koror (I would love to see them pull off what Rotu did in Marquesas and win almost every single pre-merge challenge), and Angie, James, and Stephenie on Ulong. I hope Ibrehim, Kim, and Jeff all get out soon, but as for Bobby Jon, this guy needs to stay around--he was hysterical in the reward challenge. The bag hit him, so he yells "GET OFF OF ME!!!" then when he falls he's extremely angry and pretty soon, he starts bleeding. Man, a few more outbreaks like that, and he'll be the new Robb (from Thailand, the guy who strangled a member of the other tribe during a challenge).

pringles & mai tais? :laugh2:
that was kinda lame, wasn't it? those people are frickin' starving!
came across as a shameless plug for pringles to me! whaddya think, rr?
i have to admit, i was pulling for ulong to win.....i of course feel sorry
for them! poor underdogs! and i couldn't believe ibrahim couldn't get a
bottle when they had that diving challenge! ulong had the lead until that
doofus-head BLEW IT! :angry11: how about when james got voted off?
he was like---------->:afraid4: STUNNED!
and stephanie LIED! whoa!
i enjoyed seeing them get to swim with all the jellyfish, though...that
was cool! :fish: :fish: :fish: :fish: (the fish are filling in for the jellyfish, for
which we have no smilie!)
:teeth1: what next?

I must be among the minority. I just cannot seem to figure out the entertainment value of a bunch of people stranded somewhere all in the name of the allmighty dollar. The lies, the back stabbing, some of the stunts that if not carefully done can cause serious injury.
I'm sorry friends but to me, reality shows rank right up there with watching golf, Jerry Fallwell and a channel where they speak a language you have no clue as to what they are saying.

Yeah, the Pringles and mai tais were pretty lame--but swimming with the jellyfish had to be great. I would love to do that.
I'm not an Ibrehim fan and I think he should have gone before Angie--but after some of James' comments this week, I was glad to see Ibe outlast James.
I love Steph and Bobby Jon but unless they pull something like Chris last season, they don't have a prayer. So I'm rooting for Tom, Ian, and Coby right now, but I want to see Steph and BJ go a little bit further.
As for the entertainment value of Survivor and other reality shows, I just like the strategy. That's why I can't wait till I turn 21 and get to apply. I'd love to play the game and see how far I can go.
But the only other reality shows I watch, Amazing Race, Apprentice, and American Idol, I don't obsess with them nearly as much as Survivor.

well, i sure as heck agree with you on the golf thing, now that would
put me into a coma! :yawn3: LOL! i don't understand golf groupies at all!
and do you mean jerry springer? yeah, he's a total sleazeball, no doubt!
i dunno, like i mentioned earlier, i haven't watched every survivor. i am
more drawn by the people they select. perhaps i see it as kind of a
sociology/anthropology experiment in human behavior under extreme
circumstances. of course, it is also an EDITED reality, in that with all
the miles of footage that they shoot, they choose what they want to
put on the air. was jeri (australia) REALLY a bitch? :laugh2:
i guess i find SOME of the reality shows more fun to watch than anything
else that is on t.v. anymore.....i don't think i watch any sitcom.
i also like amazing race, and i love fear factor! :cool5:

Yes. The reunion show isn't edited--and it's painfully obvious that she's a complete bitch.
One who the editing shows as a saint is Rupert, and I completely disagree with that. He strangled a guy, probably 90 pounds soaking wet, for voting against him. That's part of the game, Rupert! Needless to say, I'm not a fan of his.
