It happens to me!!!! and I hate it!!! I feel so http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/blush3.gif when I tell everybody that I like Robbie Williams, Manu chao and Yoko Ono. I think it is because everybody is expecting you like bands such as The Beatles... but taste is taste...

Does it happen to you? With who/which band?

A lot of my friends have me pigeon-holed as the one who listens exclusively to the local oldies station, so when I come out and say that I like anything new they react strangely. But it doesn't really shock anyone anymore when I ask "Oh, did you hear the new David Gray?" right after spending forty-five minutes gushing about Joni Mitchell or Jethro Tull or something like that.

Although... I think most people are a little weirded out when I say that my guilty pleasure is listening to bad 80s music... Modern English, anyone? (only joking, I love those guys!)

ABBA http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/blush4.gif "Mamma Mia", though, man, it blows your mind every time.

I like Abba as well. Basically the hits. I'm not really one of those people into the obscure recordings or collecting their bootlegs or anything.

You know, I really love Elton John and Billy Joel and for some reason people think that's lame. How? They have written some very lovely songs. Anyway, I'm not embarrassed to admit I like them, but it baffles me that anyone would find that laughable.

Anyway...yeah. My mom LOVES Sting's music and my friends always laugh about that. I'm always coming to her defense like, "Well, he still writes gorgeous music, maybe he just doesn't sing all excitedly like when he was in the Police, or maybe he just really likes singing over jass music. Anyway, his cover of Gershwin's Nice Work if You Can Get It is amazing..."

Always falls on deaf ears. To them, Sting is just not cool.

But I never tell my mom.

ABBA are great and everyone I know would at the least agree they wrote some great pop songs. They are one of those bands that most folk just accept!

Naw, I'm proud of having eclectic tastes in music. I mean, Ravi Shankar and Yoko Ono, for example, are probably fairly "normal" for those of us on the Links, but I don't personally "know" a lot of people who like them.

Abba is my guilty pleasure, I must confess. They made delicious pop songs and I like them very much. But I don't like telling that to other people... http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

I've always loved ABBA! http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggrin.gif I didn't know until a few years ago that it should be a guilty pleasure. http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Me, I find myself liking and laughing to Eminem.

Heh, not sure how anyone on here feels about it, but where I am from when I like ELO I have always got the weirdest looks. But I love the harmonies and moving parts, it's good stuff...ah well. Most of the people who give me weird looks like stuff like irish punk music, which I don't mind either, but they don't think highly of ELO, lol!

Hey SpaceDaisy42,
Hello and welcome. ELO is a great band, I enjoy them too. Irish punk, eh? I'll have to see if I can find that on my new fangled radio. My secret sin(musical) are the BeeGees. They thought of themselves as songwriters, not performers. Rock on.

I don't mind saying it all that much, but I really did like some of N*Sync's stuff. And I do like one or two Briteny Spears songs. I know that both of these groups represent all that is evil in the music industry today, and I wish they would drop the dancing and do a real concert without all that silly stuff, but they DO punch out some catchy tunes, no? http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Well, most of the world would like to condem me for this but I am, and have been for around 8-9 years, a huge Hanson fan. I'm not ashamed of it either because no one that has heard their lastest album can deny that they are truly talented guys. And they're a rare breed on top of that, with each album they've released their musical style as grown and changed, and they've stayed true to themselves to the point of breaking contract to release their latest album the way they wanted it to be.

How many artists can say that for themselves? Not many I'd guess. Yet the common consensus from soceity is that Hanson fans should run into hiding for liking "those mmmbop girls" and I did for some time, but I'm not anymore because their music is awesome and nothing to be ashamed of for liking.

Ok, I'll get off my soapbox now. I tend to get heated on this subject because I've been taking abuse for liking Hanson for way too long. I'm sorry if I went a little over board.
