I LOVE Jet! http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbsup1.gif
I originally was turned onto their music through the song "Are You Gonna Be My Girl", but once I heard "Look What You've Done", that became my favorite. I have their album "Get Born" and I listen to it all the time. The songs "Move On," "Rollover DJ" and "Cold Hard B****" are great, too.

I like Jet. Be My Girl is a really good song. Anyone else notice "Look What You've Done" sounds similar to Sexy Sadie? And not just the lyrics, but the overall sound too.

Yes, I noticed that too. I also think "Lazy Gun" sort of sounds like "I Want To Tell You". Not that I'm complaining, mind you. I've read interviews the guys from Jet have done and they've said that they're Beatles fans, so it stands to reason it pops up in their music. It's kind of nice. They're Beatle-esque, but with their own sound. That's what I think of it. I only wish they sold the singles here in the US. I'd really like to have the "Look What You've Done" one.

Does anyone know if they are named Jet after Paul's song?

I like Jet too!! Great album!
Not sure if they are named after the Wings song tho?!

Yes, they named themselves after Paul's song. Here's an excerpt from an article from VH1.com from Oct. 15 of last year:
They chose the name Jet after flipping through their record collections and pulling Paul McCartney & Wings' Band on the Run, which featured the hit with that title.
"I love Wings, man. They're great," said Cester. "Also, when we're doing shows with a band with a huge name like the Polyphonic Spree, they have to stretch out our name to fill up the same amount of space in an ad in the newspaper, so we always look huge."
Pretty cool, huh? Oh, and if you want to read the rest of the article, here's the url:

I was intrigued when I first heard about the group, and was interested to hear them due to the fact that they were said to be very "Beatlesque". I had also read a few things about them, which furthered my interest. Anyway... my older brother got their album, and on only his second day of owning it (something that I could never do--that's far too soon!) he let me borrow it! He told me that I needed to hear it as they were "just like the Beatles". Well, needless to say, he didn't get his album back for a little while... But, I finally returned it to him, and then went out and bought my own copy. I'm very into them now--I love how very Beatley they are, yet they have a slight bit of a punk feel to them... That album is in my player A LOT! I don't generally like "new" groups (I'm strictly a '50's/60's girl), but these guys I dig!!!!
http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/musicnotes.gif Jet rocks!!! http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/musicnotes.gif

Another reason they might sound Beatle-esque is because Billy Preston plays on some of the tracks.

Not a fan. "Look What You've Done" is a pale 'remake' of "Sexy Sadie".

Jet's a great band. I first heard Are You Going to be My Girl on an ipod commericial and thought that it was great but at the time, just thought it was a jingle for ipod until I saw the music video for it. I got their record too after I found out who they are.
They are very scruffy, but in a cute way. http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif
I know that they got their band name from Paul's Jet song, which is cool, but in a brief People magazine article, they said that they were fans of the song Jet, just liked the title of the song http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/afraid3.gif

Hahahahahaha. I wondered if anybody was going to comment on that. Talk about your blatant ripoffs! But it does sound pretty good, so my opinion is that they're extremely derivative, but they sound ok doing it, so I wouldn't buy their albums, but I don't mind listening to them on the radio. http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I am glad that I am not the only one who thinks that was a blatant ripoff!
When I first heard the song, I thought, "Oh cool, someone is covering Iggy Pop." Then to my dismay I realized that it wasn't a cover, but an "original" song...

Originality is not a necessary ingredient in good rock and roll. Energy is more important. Jet are not a *great* band like The Beatles, T. Rex, The Kinks, Donovan, The Sex Pistols, The Creation, etc., but they are a good band and really awesome to listen to.
"Are You Gonna Be My Girl" is their best. I also really like "Look What You've Done", "Lazy Gun", "Timothy", "Rollover DJ", and "Get What You Need". I'm happy that there are musicians like them around.

Heard some of their new album today, sounds nothing like the first one. More indie rock and the singer now sounds like Liam Gallacher???

I got the new album and I think it's ok. Not as good as the first one. But this one has some good tracks. I like the new single, "Put Your Money Where Your Mouth Is", and the title track, "Shine On", is good. That one really got to me the first time I heard it. It's about the father of two of the band members (Chris and Nic Cester) who died recently. I lost my mom three years ago, and their thoughts in that song really sum up every emotion and thought I've gone through since then.
I hope they do well enough and go on to record a third album. It's difficult to get past the "sophomore slump". Many bands did well with their third album. I'd definitely like to seem in concert, but the closest performance as of now is in Philadephia. That's a tad far away and I've never been there before. But they just said on their website that more tour dates are coming. Yay!

They're terrible. The Lust For Life bass line, the similarities between Cold Hard Bitch and every other AC-DC song and the obvious rip off lyrics of Look What You've Done. They're boring to watch and they're very cliche. Not a good band at all.

Aussie band Jet.
Look what you've done always sounded like a Lennon Imagine period song. I just realised Oh look what you have done, you've made a fool of everyone are the lyrics of sexy sadie..
Jet are a hybrid of the Stones, Beatles, Kinks etc...Good to see young bands still playing real instruments and pumping out real rock and roll.
I wonder sometimes if they are aware of how their influences show so obviously, or that they do actually pinch riffs and lyrics ?
Oh well, they are in good company, The beatles fessed up to all the stuff they have stolen, including the riff in Come together and of course George got sued for My Sweet Lord..(He's so Fine).
