Hi, I'm trying to learn more about this box set I've got. The box is black and it says "The Beatles The Collection" on it. It was made by Mobile Fidelity Sound Labs. It has 14 vinyl records and a "Geo-Disc". Everything looks like it's in perfect condition. The records look like they've never even been played. I'll try to post some pics tomorrow. Is anyone familiar with these sets, and if so, what can you tell me about it? How much is it worth?

thanks

haha, ok. Harb, do you know anything about this box?

I just found one on ebay here (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=306&item=404382870 7&rd=1&ssPageName=WDVW) that sold for $800, and mine is in better condition than that one. But I'm wondering if that's typical of this set.

These are very high end LPs from the late 70's/early 80's, cut at halfthe normal speed of an LP Master to get fuller sound. The discs were in rice paper envolopes inside the sleeves. The GeoDisc was to align your LP needle toi the weay the discs were cut,in theory.

The Mobile Fidelity Sound Labs box set was released in Sept. 1982. Did your copy come with a 38-page booklet?

It has a really nice full color booklet with all of their artwork in it. There are no page numbers and i did not count the pages so I can't confirm that it's 38 pages, but that sounds about right. The outerlayer of the booklet is a protective layer of thin paper (rice paper I guess?). On the first page is a certificate of authenticity and an unfilled out warranty card. It says 25,000 of these were made. It's amazing that nothing is bent, worn, or torn.

The full MFSL Beatles boxset is worth quite a bit. I've seen mint condition complete sets in the box sell on eBay for over $200-250 plus.
