When I was young, it seemed that life was so wonderful,
a miracle, oh it was beautiful, magical.
And all the birds in the trees, well they'd be singing so happily,
joyfully, playfully watching me.
But then they send me away to teach me how to be sensible,
logical, responsible, practical.
And they showed me a world where I could be so dependable,
clinical, intellectual, cynical.

There are times when all the world's asleep,
the questions run too deep
for such a simple man.
Won't you please, please tell me what we've learned
I know it sounds absurd
but please tell me who I am.

Now watch what you say or they'll be calling you a radical,
liberal, fanatical, criminal.
Won't you sign up your name, we'd like to feel you're
acceptable, respectable, presentable, a vegtable!

At night, when all the world's asleep,
the questions run so deep
for such a simple man.
Won't you please, please tell me what we've learned
I know it sounds absurd
but please tell me who I am.

Its a great song, Roger Hodgson performed it (along with other great supertramp songs like Long way home and give a little bit) When he was a member of Ringos all star band in '01. great funny song

That's my favorite Supertramp song (as heard on The Simpsons circa 1980) http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggrin.gif

I love that song! It shows us how life can convert a man into some kind of robot. http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/alien4.gif

We all are shaped by society.

Good song but no as good as "Give a Little Bit". Now that is a classic.

I agree. Give A Little Bit is one of my favorites. It reminds of a song you'd hear at a wedding. http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/inlove3.gif
