I am certainly curious about this one, I will probably 'have a listen' before buying it tho. I have never heard the first pet sounds album either and I am interested in that one too.

Listen to 'Pet Sounds' first, Pinky - this version of 'Smile' that's being released is Brian Wilson's present-day attempt to capture a fleeting moment long passed. Good as this album may turn out to be, those looking for clues as to what 'Smile' was would probably be better served listening to those tracks that were included on the Beach Boys boxset (or waiting for the inevitable 'Smile' sessions set...).

No, because it's a re-recording. I'd maybe want to hear the real deal. But not this.

OK, My feeling was wrong.
I heard it at work today and it's pretty good. It's not groundbreaking or anything but good pop music.Heroes and Villians in particular is excellent.

I definatly would have preffered to hear an officially released and coherent version of The Beach Boys Smile as it was intended to be, but at least I have my bootlegs...having said that I am most definatly going to buy Brian Wilson's newly rerecorded smile and I'm sure it'll be great! http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

If you want a glimpse of the original, get "Smiley Smile", which was released at the time in 67, or was it 66, and which is still available and included some of the same tracks and ideas that were intended for Smile.

The newly recorded Smile is a most excellent production , however, like Brian's contemporary solo albums and not really meant to be the original, but another version, as they changed some lyrics and arrangements and made it rellevent.

The layered harmonies are flawless and the sound is lavish.
You now have a mature voice (though still Beach Boy sounding) as opposed to a 24 year old voice.
Worth getting but it's really out there. You can see why it never got released cause there's not a lot of commercial content but it is a brilliant work of art.
Heroes and Villians is exceptional..
