My first concert was a Ringo Starr concert! This was only two years ago when I was 17. It was so beautiful at the end everyone crowded around the stage and he was singing "With A Little Help From My Friends" and he was pointing to people in the crowd and singing and he pointed to me and I said, "I love you Ringo!!!!!!!!!!" and he smiled. It was thrilling, he really put on such a good show, in a way that only the ever-good natured and fun loving Ringo could.
My next concert (even though this isn't the topic) was a Paul McCartney concert, and his voiced hadn't aged a day. He was sweet. (I guess that's an understatement). My favorite parts of the concert though were when he sang his tributes to George and John. So touching.

I've been to a bunch of concerts (Ringo included, hope to see Paul someday) But the first one I been to, was about 10 years ago when i was about 7 I guess, my mother took me to these free concerts at the world trade center that was sponsored by our local oldies station (The famous dj Cousin Bruce was there) and there was one every week in the summer I think. I went to a lot of those, and there were a lot of big names (no Beatles tho, I can hardly picture them playing for free!) But for some reason the only acts I remember are Hermans Hermits and the Turtles.I know i seen a lot more at those shows, but can remember anyone else!

my very first concert was when I was about 10 years old, when I went to see the Gypsy Kings at the Hollywood Bowl with my mom and family friends. I was up way past my bedtime and fell asleep for half the show. http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif
my first 'real' concert (aka awake the whole time) was RINGO'S!!! It was last year at the Universal Amphitheater in Universal Studios. It.... was.... fantastic. But what would you expect from a Beatle's concert? What would you expect from Ringo's concert? It was amazing. http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Hey Pokey! Another thing we have in common, sistah! http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif It was 1979 at Aloha Stadium in Hawaii. I was 16 and went with a friend of my sister's who brought a couple of buds with her to see a double bill featuring Heart and The Beach Boys. Needless to say, we thought the Beach Boys were totally lame in our state of being http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smoking3.gif and left while Mike Love strutted his stuff onstage wearing his silly cap. (this was us-----> http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh7.gif ) Don't ask me too much about the concert. It's all a foggy haze. http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif But, I can tell you that Heart was awesome! http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/rocknroll2.gif Luckily, they were the opening act. http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile2.gif

My first ... concert was Orleans and opening act John Sebastian. It was a benefit show for an anti nuclear power organization. Not that I cared about the nuclear thing, I was 16 and it was a fun night. My second show was at the same theater Blood Sweat & Tears and that was a good show too. Unlike Magill I was clear headed during either show. http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/angel4.gif

I went to see Chicago with my parents at the Rosemont Theater when I was in high school (sophomore year, I think). It was a very good show; the Rosemont Theater is a smaller place, not like a huge arena, so it was enjoyable.
The first concert I got to go to on my own was Ringo's 1995 concert at Summerfest in Milwaukee. My best friend called me that afternoon (it was July 3rd, day before my brother's birthday....I remember stupid things like that http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif) and told me about the show, and within about 30 minutes we organized our ride there and everything. It was just so exciting knowing that I was going to see a Beatle in person, finally! http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif The show was excellent, as always. It went from 10pm til midnight, which meant I got home around 2:30am exhausted but VERY happy! http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Apart from some small gigs of local artists whose name will not ring bells with most of you guys here, my first real concert was Bob Marley & The Wailers, June 13, 1976.
What an amazing experience that was. It was his Rastaman Vibration tour and sure did it Vibrate and I had never seen so many Rasta men before.
I was so much in love with his music then, after having been introduced by his 1975 released Live album and that night, he played close to just everything from that live album.
I was with a friend and we stood - who sits during popconcerts? - in this corridor and it was one big dance event. We just joined there and danced and sang and laughed and so many around us were smoking hasj so within no time, I smelled like one big joint hahahaha. No I did not smoke one, maybe I should have..
That music was just awesome and I even had a chance to take pics of Bob when he walked off stage, from very close by, just a few metres.
I saw him again and call myself very very lucky to have been to two of his concerts.
After the show we drove home and on the highways saw so many cars full of Bob's music driving in the sunny Rotterdam direction too. The party just continued and I was waving at passings cars when I heard Bob's music, well more raising a finger by means of recognition and no...it was 1976 so it was not the middle finger..but the thumb http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggrin.gif http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggrin.gif

Al Stewart, late 70s (cannot remember the year, but it had to be 1977, 78 or 79), at St. John's University, Queens, New York. Shortly after "Year of the Cat" came out...I went with my friend Gabriella from high school. It was just two blocks from my house, so my parents were okay with me going -- I wasn't allowed to go to concerts before that because it would have meant them taking me since I couldn't go into Manhattan alone, especially at night. He performed with a temperature of 102 -- I remember that because the show started really late and they explained that he was ill, but the show did go on!
I didn't know as much about Al Stewart then as I do now, I probably would have appreciated it more if I did, especially the songs from his earlier albums! Sigh...hindsight is 20/20, I guess...

My first concert was KISS. I saw them in Montreal in 1998. It was the best show that I have ever seen, and once you start concert going with KISS, it'll be really hard to top. The music isn't much to write home about, but the stage show is just awesome.
Since then I have seen KISS again, here in Ottawa, and have seen Céline Dion http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/afraid1.gif (I was dragged to that one) Janet Jackson, Styx, and Alice Cooper.

Paid: Janis Joplin, Fillmore West, San Francisco...
Free: Altamont Speedway with The Rolling Stones,
lost in the tragedy of the Hells Angels murder was the great bands assembled, to name just a few, Santana, The Jefferson Airplane, rumors were flying about that the Beatles would appear, glad they didn't, this was a mess, this was the end of the 60's, Woodstock, and flower power, how I and those who were so close to the scene are alive today, is quite amazing.
My buddy and I hitch hiked from our home town in 1969, Novato,California, to Oakland, then a ride with a bunch of black dudes, really cool, although my bud was scared of the blacks in the car, (him being white, I'm also white but half Asian, 6ft 2, no body is gonna mess with me, hee, hee, hee) I kept telling him, these guys are cool, relax man, so we smoked some fantastic weed, and shared ripple wine on our way to Atamont, if only I had pictures, but if you ever get the view the DVD of Gimme Shelter , its all true for I was there, its almost like kid advanture "Stand by Me" kind of thing, something I'll never forget.
Note: I do not use drugs, and in no way endorse the use, I'm living proof, you don't need drugs to get high, I get high on life, free and clean (wink)
