Michael Eavis (organiser of the Glastonbury Festival) speaking in the July issue of 'Word' magazine: -

'"The best ever was Radiohead in '97, The Smiths in '84, Oasis in '94 - really, really good, Marc Bolan of course in '71, and there was a great set from John Martyn in '79. The Grateful Dead turned me down, their loss, and the Stones I do phone occasionally but I'm not suffering over it. Turning down George Harrison is the biggest mistake I've ever made. He was smoking a lot and looked a bit miserable and I thought 'We can't just keep having these old guys, we've got to keep moving forward'. And I turned him down, three years before he died. I don't Know what I was thinking."'

It sure seems like a "Duh Moment" to us, but then you think...really, how would George go over to a crowd of mostly really young people who like wallowing around in mud pits? Probably a good thing for him that he DIDN'T play there, when you think about it! http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Old Paul didn't go well with some of the young crowd, but still lots of fans who came to see him.
This is another one of those, wish it would have happened, but sadly it didn't.

No, I think George would have been ok at Glastonbury, its a more intelligent, older, musically aware crowd there, not like teenyboppers or rough people like at Leeds, Reading or Tin the park. Nevermind though.

Oh ok, I wasn't aware of that. That's not the way it's portrayed in the media around here, so perhaps my perception was a bit off. Sorry. http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif
