View Full Version : Humble Request - Please Pray over Jagajivan Prabhu's death
Priitaa

We have lost a wonderful devotee of Krishna who was into George Harrision and in the 60's was a writer/critic for "DownBeat" magazine. I posted about him on my prayer egroup, "Krishna's Distance Healers." Then realized I am missing out on a whole lot of prayers for him here. Therefore I will include what I put on my group, in hopes more will pray to Prabhuapda and Krishna for Jagajivan's benefit. In addition, you may wish to know that Jagajivan, in recent times, was distributing George Harrison CD's.) Thanks.

Subject: Devotee Death - Please Pray
It is not that we can only pray for someone who is on this side with us, but also after they have left their body.
Just the other day my husband and myself found out that a devotee we both know, especially one he is friends with, lived in the same ashrama when young brahmacaris, and one who has phoned him often, committed suicide. His name was/is Jagajivan das.
Tho in the very last phone call from Jagajivan, he did express something that has been bothering him to my husband, but it was small and could easily be ironed out. Therefore we thought it would pass as it has with most devotees. My husband wondered why his friend did not
trust him enough to confide further, though I now suspect the topic of that converstaions was not the main issue and a cover up for something much bigger was going on behind it.
Please know that with that one exception, in Jagajivan's phone calls (etc) he was always very 'up' and positive, always preaching about Prabhuapda and Krishna, and laughing. Seemed to be in good spirits.
He use to phone here to speak with my husband anywhere from once a month to once a week. When an entire month just passed and no word from Jagagivan, my husband began to wonder about him, yet it was not uncommon for Jagajivan to go for semi-long periods of time without phoning us for a while, then to suddenly phone again. Saturday monring my husband received an email stating Jagajivan had committed suicide. This has been shocking since we had no idea, as no one we know infomred us he left in this way, and it happened three weeks ago.
The details of his suicide are unknown to most, but Jagivan also does not want anyone to know, does not feel its important and a negative. That sounds like Jagagivn too. If its not Krishna conscious, he's not going to waste time talking about it. I agree with him. As much as we may be curious, that's more the gossip part of it.
What is important here is to pray for him, as some on this list may not know that suicide is against our spiritual path. Fortunately there has been some information surfacing which is hopeful, as well as Jagagivan's strong advice that no one should ever do what he did, and that it was clearly wrong. With that said however, may we all pray for his benefit, and take a moment to hear a bit about his devotional life. Nor I do not know a lot about him, but I know enough to appreicate the goodness of his heart and determination to be a devotee.
Jagajivan das took initiation from Srila Prabhupada early in the Movement. You know the titles you read on the Prabhuapda lecture cassettes? It was Jagajivan who picked them, with great care. In the "Back to Godhead" magazines, where he served for years, the sections you have seen called "Prabhupada Speaks Out," he did those too. Jagagivan couldn't talk about Prabhuada enough, and his dedication was clear, without a doubt. This too is why I have hopes Prabhupada picked him up by his ear, or sikha http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif , and saved him.
Jagajivan was and is a sincere devotee who may have done something we do not understand, but his devotinal service, and he himself, should never be minimized in our eyes because of it. Prabhupada plucked him out of the material world once, he can do it again. Therefore I humbly reqest all devotees to pray for Jagajivan to be forgiven for this and allowed to move forward in his love and service to
Prabhuapda and Krishna.
Your Servant,
Prtha (pronounced Priitaa) d.d.

Yet I still would like to offer my prayers for this great devotee to be forgiven for what has been done and that his soul would quickly be re-instated in his Krishna-bhakti without further hindrance.

Thank you Rahil prabhu, for your humble and sincere reply. And, every little prayer is helpful, benefiting both the one prayed for (Jagajivan in this case), and the one who prays! That's the wonder of Krishna. Well, one of many. http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif Its like we have this invisible "telephone wire" provided to connect to Him thru conscious and intentful prayer. Thaks! And Haribol.

That comment is very much appreciated. He was a wonderful Vaisnava. A human being type of Vaisnava, as he knew he was not perfect, but never let that get in his way or use it as an excuse. Tho not to be misunderstood, he was a good follower of Prabhupada. Thanks!

Thank you. Tho they're not for me. Make sure to get his name right. http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif Its "JagaJivan das." He was/is a friend, and use to phone our house regularly, so this too makes it more of a shock. He never said a word to indicate this, and seemed so up and positive all the time. Anyawy, thanks.

I certainly will pray. I am so sorry. I understand those feelings... having also suicide within my family. I believe often it is people with tender, tender hearts who find the material world overwhelming and the escape from it so enticing. A rush to escape the pain of the world is so easy to align with once the shallowness of the world becomes clearer and clearer to us.
That of course is the best reason to seek comfort at the lotus feet of Krishna, through whom we can find the way out of misery forever.
Not that all life here is misery, but the attachment to the good things leads to awareness of the temporality of all things...all things save God and our souls.
I have no doubt in my heart God and Srila Prabhupad will turn a kind and loving eye towards Jagajivan Prabhu once again and hold him close. Like a Mother, God understands our hearts and vulnerability and never ever gives up on us.
I will pray for this special devotee and all who love him and were touched by his devotion.

Thank you prabhu. Yes, I do believe he was a very sensitive soul and that may have contributed to his actions. He admitted they were the wrong actions too, but for whatever reason, did them anyway. We are still trying to accept the idea he is gone, but would appreicate any prayers to free any possible complication it may have brought him and to thereby please free his soul, reuniting him with Prabhuapda ihs guru and Krishna. This is what he would want. As I've said, he use to phone here regularly. The phone does ring quite as often on weekends anymore. Strange.

I am female, and it's common in Prabhupada's Hare Krishna movement for women to call other women "prabhu." I don't know whats going on in the current movement these days, but am not concerned either. I just stick with the old fashioned way we did it in the ashrama 'back in the day.' http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif
(Update: Just saw you said 'sorry.' No big deal. We all learn as we go. <s> )

I'm glad you are back, Priitaa, although I am sad about the circumstances. We've missed you, SingingOm and others who have shared their extensive knowledge of Eastern philosophy/faith with us.
As sad as this recent loss is, the good thing is that you're back at the Palace. I think George has influenced countless people for the better and I also think George would probably have a smile on his face knowing how so many people have been brought together. http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Hey, thanks all.
A devotee wrote a peom for Jagajivan, and had also (previously) written one for George. They are a bit long, but I found them stirring, tho maybe thats just me as I'm a bit sentimental. http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif Anyway, I'll post one here, and then a separate post for the next poem. ~ Priitaa
MY DEAR DEVOTEES,HERE IS A PRAYER AND POEM ABOUT ME, FOR JAGAJIVAN,ME
AND ALL OF YOU...
HONESTY
HONESTY LEADS TO THE TRUTH,
AND SO I FALL AT THY FEET,
O JAGAT GURU,SHRILA PRABHUPADA,
PLEASE HEAR THESE WORDS I SPEAK
I AM LOWER THAN THE WORMS IN STOOL,
FOR ME ONLY THE SENSE OBJECTS RULE,
OVERPOWERED BY FALSE EGO,
I CLAIM I HEAR FROM THE PURE DESCIPLIC SUCCESSION, WHILE ALL ALONG MY
FILTHY HEART,
IS FILLED WITH MATERIAL AFFECTION
SIMPLY OUT OF CONTROL,
OF MY SERPENTINE SENSES,
I ONLY FALL DOWN,
BRAKING VOWS,
WITH ABOMINABLE OFFENSES...
COMMITTING THE GREATEST OFFENSE,
TO THE CHANTING OF THE HOLY NAMES,
I LIVE ON AND I DON'T KNOW WHY,
WATCHING MY SPIRITUAL LIFE,
SO VERY BLOCKED AND STRAINED..
SO I DON'T KNOW WHAT TO DO,
BUT JUST BE HONEST WITH YOU,
O GURU DEVA
SHOULD A SOUL LIKE I,
SIMPLY GIVE UP HIS LIFE,
RATHER THAN GO ON,
WITH THIS FACADE...
I KNOW YOU SAID SUICIDE IS NO ANSWER,
AND WHO EVER WE ARE,
JUST CONTINUE YOUR CHANTING,
AND SOMEHOW BY YOUR CAUSELESS MERCY,
I STILL AM CHANTING,
AND I FEEL MY SELF VERY VERY SLOWLY,
GETTING A TASTE FOR MORE CHANTING,
AND SPIRITUALLY ADVANCING,
JUST AS YOU SAID WE WOULD,
I MUST MAKE THIS UNDERSTOOD.
I PRAY ALL OF YOU,
STRUGGLING LIKE ME,
OR WHO EVER YOU MAY BE
JUST DON'T STOP CHANTING,
THE NAMES OF SHRI HARI!!!!!!!!!
SO PLEASE KINDLY FORGIVE MY INABILITY,
ONLY BY YOUR MERCY,
WILL I NOT GIVE UP IN UTTER FUTILITY...
FOR BY MY PAST MISDEEDS,
I AM FORCED TO LIVE ALONE,
WITH VERY LITTLE SPIRITUAL ASSOCIATION,
TO HELP CUT THESE WEEDS,
THAT HAVE OVER GROWN...
BUT I STILL HAVE FAITH IN YOU,
THAT YOU HELP ME MAKE IT THROUGH,
BECAUSE MY PRAYERS TO YOU,
YOUR HERE WITH ME,
WITH DEVOTION,PURE AND TRUE..
AND I WANT THE WORLD TO KNOW,
THE MERCY YOU CAN SHOW,
ON ME A MOST FALLEN SOUL,
BECAUSE WITH YOU I WANT TO GO..
BY YOUR MERCY,I WON'T GIVE UP
THOUGH MY KARMA IS MOST BAD AND ROUGH,
I SHALL GO ON PRAISING YOUR PRESENCE,
TO REVEAL TO ALL LIFE'S VERY ESSENCE...
LORD KRISHNA PERVADES ALL EXISTENCE,
IN EVERY ONE'S HEART AS THEIR WITNESS,
AND YET BY HIS INCONCEIVABLE WILL,
HE IS OUT SIDE OF EVERY THING,
SHOWING HIS SERVANTS,
THE UNLIMITED THRILL,
OF SEEING HIS SUPREME,
AND TRANSCENDENTAL FORM,
EVERY MOMENT,EVERY WHERE,
ALL GLORIOUSLY ADORNED...
O SHRI BALARAMA,
BY THE REQUEST OF PRABHUPADA,
I PRAY TO YOU TO MAKE ME SPIRITUALLY STRONG, TO MAINTAIN MY DEVOTION
TO,
SHRI KRISHNA,BHAGAVANA.
BIRTH AFTER BIRTH,
PLEASE MAKE ME NEVER FORGET,
MY ONLY WORTH,
AS THE SERVANT,
OF THE SOLD OUT DOG
OF SHRILA PRABHUPADA,
LET ME PRESERVER THROUGH,
MY MUCH DESERVED HURT...
O MY DEAR LORD KRISHNA,
PLEASE DANCE UPON MY POISON TONGUE,
JUST LIKE YOU DID ON THE MOST POISONOUS SNAKE KALIYA, WANTING YOU DEAD
AND UN-DONE...
JUST LIKE YOU PURIFIED THAT MOST ENVIOUS,ARROGANT CREATURE, TO REALISE
HIS MISTAKE,
SO I MAY SURRENDER,
PROPERLY TO YOU,LIKE HIM,
PLEASE PURIFY THIS DEADLY SNAKE.
ONLY BY YOUR MERCY, PRABHUPADA,
I AM STILL DEVOTED,
THOUGH I'M LIKE A HOG,
PLEASE KEEP YOUR MERCY ON MY HEAD,
TO GUIDE EVERY STEP,
I HOPELESSLY TREAD,
TO ULTIMATELY SAVE,
THIS LIVING DEAD,
SO HE MAY TRULY PLEASE YOU,
AND FOLLOW ALL YOU SAID...
SO THIS MOST FALLEN,ANUBHAVANANDA DASA
ALWAYS DOUBLE CROSSED AND LOST,
BY MAYA'S FORCE MOST HELPLESSLY TOSSED,
JUST BEGS TO BE CHASTISED,
BY PRABHUPADA UNTIL HE IS PURE,
AND IN BONAFIDE SERVICE,
HE IS TIGHTLY SECURE,
AT THE LOTUS FEET,
OF KRISHNA'S SERVITOR..
O SHRILA PRABHUPADA,
I PRAY PROTECT YOUR GOOD DISCIPLE,JAGAJIVAN, WHO KEPT YOUR WORDS
FLOWING,
ON HIS MP3 PLAYER,
AND THE BTG YOU WERE SO FOND
WE DON'T KNOW WHERE HE IS,
WE PRAY HE IS ALRIGHT,
STILL HOLDING TO YOUR LOTUS FEET
VERY VERY VERY TIGHT!!!!!!!
AND PLEASE GUIDE US ALL IN OUR FLIGHT,
THROUGH OUT ALL OUR LIFE,
TO TO THE TIME WE LEAVE OUR BODY,
TO THE PARTY OF SHRI SHRI GAUR NITAI,
MAY WE FLY WITH YOU BY OUR SIDE

And here's the one he wrote for George ~
Here is a poem and prayer I did in praise of george harrison...
O KRISHNA
O KRISHNA
O KRISHNA
O KRISHNA
O Krishna,
where are You
are you lifting Govardhana Hill?.
O Krishna,
where are You,
are you carrying the chariot wheel?.
O Krishna where are You,
are You opening Your Mouth,
for Your Mother Jashoda,
or are You speaking,
to Your dearest friend Arjuna,
explaining where Your Abode is,
beyond all miserys,
O You mystery of all mysterys?.
O Krishna,where are You,
are you on the bank of the Jamuna,
playing sweetly on Your Flute,
or are You wrestling,
with a cowherd boyfriend,
O You truth of all truths?.
O Krishna where are You,
are you walking with Shrila Prabhupada,
in some land beyond the blue?,
O Krishna please tell me,
O You clue behind all clues.
You in every heart,
You Who never ever parts,
You Who gave our lives,
a total brand new start.
You Who are Your Names,
cleansers of all sins.
fears and pains.
O Krishna where are You,
are you listening,
to Your Servant George's guitar,
gently weeping to You,
right where You are,
most near and yet most far...
O Krishna,where are You,
please guide Prabhupada's desciples,
everyone,
by Your words,
comming through Prabhupada,
the brightest shinning Sun,
back to Your place,
where we all begun...
O Krishna,
we will find You,
when we're always chanting Your Names,
that is Your Supreme Promise,
Please cause us all to chant Them,
O our Dearest friend,
and life's only Aim...
HARE KRISHNA HARE KRISHNA
KRISHNA KRISHNA HARE HARE
HARE RAMA HARE RAMA
RAMA RAMA HARE HARE......
Thus this Anubhavananda das prays,
O Krishna,O Krishna,O Krishna,
please at the time of death,
just like George Harrison,
my dear God Brother,
may I utter Hare Krishna, love one another.....
