In a interview with Barbara Orbison (Roy's widow) she says this about the Wilburys (which comes from this site http://tennessean.com/features/living/archives/04/05/51665030.shtml)
[ QUOTE ]
Perhaps of most interest to baby boomer rock fans, Barbara is working with the others who made up The Traveling Wilburys to put together a comprehensive package of audio and video recordings chronicling the adventures of Roy, George Harrison (she is working with his widow, Olivia), Bob Dylan, Tom Petty and Jeff Lynne.
The plans call for the Wilburys, whose recordings have been out of circulation for a decade, to make a ''comeback'' in ''the fourth quarter.'' In short, in time for Christmas.
Barbara's eyes sparkle when she talks about the Wilburys, the band born when George Harrison borrowed a guitar from Petty so he could do a B-side with producer Lynne and Orbison. They needed a place to record, so Harrison called his chum Bob Dylan to use his studio. This took place in Malibu in 1988.
The end result, the first Wilburys album, featuring the hit Handle With Care, still delights Orbison's widow.
''You can listen to it and it is just like boys having fun together,'' she says. ''You can really feel the absence of any business stresses. They are having a good time. There's the excitement of being in a band called The Wilburys. None of it was on anybody's shoulders.
''They kind of fell together,'' she continues. ''It was a special moment in time. It brought out the best in all of them.''

Oh wow! I had heard something about this on the radio or the news or somewhere, but it didn't give all of the details. Oh, now I am really looking forward to that! It should be so good and it will help me to (almost) complete my GH collection! Oh, I can't wait for this! Thanks so much for posting the info!!! http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif!

Very good news, indeed. The Wilburys were such a fascinating band, I'm amazed that not too many people are (still) talking about them. http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

That sounds like an invitation, well, I am happy to talk about this great band, because it is my second favorite, and maybe even my favorite http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif
Their two albums are too little, it's a pity that they never got round to recording more music.
There is quite a difference between Volume One and Volume Three. The first is more like the quick sessions, whereas the other has been worked on a lot more.
The other difference to me is that One seems more a George/Jeff album, in terms of leading, whilst the second is maybe more Bob/Tom's baby? Even though it is often said George was 'the leader'of the gang...

I think the thing about George being the leader is certainly true with Volume 1 but in my mind Bob is leader on volume 3.

This is where I think the difference lays. The first one they were just having so much fun and the second they 'worked on'.

The sessions for Volume One lasted between May 7 and May 16, 1988, so that is not that long, apart from the mixing and editing at Friar Park.
Volume Three took 6 weeks, between March and May 1990 and Bo said about that that the songs were more developed, other than the ones on One, which were 'just scraped up from jam tapes'.

Thats interesting to know!
Volume 3 does sound more polished and less "Lets play some music and see what comes out".
Both are great tho! http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Yeah, "3" has songs like "She's My Baby", "New Blue Moon" and "Wilbury Twist" which became much more than the kitchen session songs from "One"
But I love them.

Another question! Is anyone aware of any Wilbury books available? I have never seen any and I doubt there will be but you never know unless you ask! http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif
