Harb, maybe you can help me out with this. I got a bunch of old records the other day, among them a Frank Ifield VeeJay LP. Its like new, and I was amazed to have a REAL Vee-Jay LP, with rainbow label and all. Is this worth a dime to anyone, and what was VeeJays connection to Capitol? The sleeve notes that the recoring is courtesy Capitol. And the rainbow label...surely Capitol knew about it or condoned it.

Just to bring this up top again, so Harb can say, "Whats he talking about now?"

Frank Ifield was originally signed to Capitol labels, but because Franks producer (Norrie Paramor) wasn't pleased with the promotional aspect he decided that they would be better off signing to a smaller label - Vee Jay. The first album was called "Meet Frank Ifield" and was a great success.
That's the story on Franks website (http://www.frankifield.com/wack.html), but according to the Full Vee Jay Discography (http://www.bsnpubs.com/veejay/veejaya.html), only 1 Frank Ifield LP was commercially released by Vee Jay. This being "I Remember You" (cat. no SR/VJ1054). There was plans to release a 2nd Ifield LP on Vee Jay called "Frank Ifields Favourites" and a catalogue number was even given to it (SR/VJ1064) but it was cancelled.
After that, Frank went back to EMI and Vee Jay were left with the rights to the songs on the LP 'I Remember You'. They eventually used these (along with a number of songs from Introducing the Beatles) to issue the LP 'The Beatles and Frank Ifield on Stage').
Value wise, I don't really know. A scan of eBay revealed no copies currently for sale. However, since it's in a fantastic condition, a Vee Jay collector may be prepared to dig deep for it.
If I find anything out regarding value I'll let you know.

Well, thats the album. Interesting. Maybe I should put it on Ebay and see what happens.Theres also an odd Capitol LP by, I dont remember who, but its has a GRAY label, with the normal Capitol dome stuff. Never seen that before. Also got a beautiful Braun stereo from the late 50s, some Sinatra EPs with sleeves, etc. Interesting collection.
