I found this story on Cnn.com in the entertainment section. I don't have the link so I'll tell the story in my own words:
Robert Redford apparently lost his credit card in a shop in a town near his home(Sundance). Anyway, a man had found that credit card and called up the store owner about it. The store owner offered to give him a reward of dinner and free ski lift passes. But the man said he wanted autographed memorabilia from Redford. When the shop owner said he doesn't do that kind of thing, the man said the card won't be returned and he hung up. In the end, the cops paid a visit and got the card back. The man ended up with no dinner, no free ski lift passes and no autographed memorabilia. Oh what a stupid man. I laugh at him right now graemlins/laugh2.gif *
Moral of the story: Don't lose your credit card especially if your a famous person.

Hey, that is kinda stupid! I'd take the free dinner and free ski lift passes right away!

Never a dull moment in this world of ours!

Another moral to this. Always go with the first reward and don't ask for an autograph. If you happen to find a lost credit card of Paul or Ringo, don't ask for an autograph.

Just like the old saying - "A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush."

that's almost like the fable of the dog with a bone in his mouth who saw his reflection in the water.

I think the guy is a putz, frankly -- how DARE he demand something in return for doing the decent thing and returning Mr. Redford's credit card to him!
It would be one thing if Robert Redford OFFERED a reward (which apparently he did, with the dinner and ski stuff...), but it is QUITE ANOTHER to be a moron about it, like this guy obviously was! IMHO, he deserves what he got -- NOTHING! graemlins/thumbsdown.gif

I should add, btw, that IMHO the RIGHT thing to do is to return the card with NO EXPECTATION OF ANYTHING...
I repeat, what a putz! graemlins/nono.gif

<font size="2" face="Tahoma, Arial, sans-serif">Of course, you're absolutely right. But how many of us wouldn't, at least in the back of our minds, think "Hmmmmm....maybe I'll get a reward?" (if not monetary, perhaps karmic?)
Hey, when I got mugged a few years back, somebody found my purse with everything in it but the money and brought it back to me. And stood outside my door with it and wouldn't go away until I shoved a $20 under the door for them. Sigh.......

As for the person who found your purse but wouldn't hand it over until you paid them (which is essentially what you did -- that wasn't a reward, that was an extortion tactic!), they are as bad as the person who took the money FROM the purse! Makes me sick! I hope that person had a little "instant karma" get them once they left with your $20...because someone like that deserves nothing.

If I was ever in that situation then I'd have slipped a fake twenty under the door images/icons/wink.gif

Redford should have given a fake autograph. I don't know how he can do that but...

I'd bet the guy was not even a fan, just wanted something he could turn around and sell....bastid. He got what he deserved. images/icons/grin.gif *
