I was in my office today, and one of my co-workers said that a gentleman called for me.I said "who was it?"she said, "John Lennon."After saying, "really?" a few times, she said, "here is his name , phone number and address."The address was W.72nd St.Isn't that the street where the Dakota is? I called back but got an answering machine. I can't wait to talk to him on Thursday.Pretty creepy, huh?

Seriously, that is bizarre. When will people learn that some practical jokes just aren't funny!

Yeah, I must admit to skepticism here -- yes, the Dakota is on West 72nd Street, but in case no one has told your co-worker, John Lennon has been dead for 22 years...and I somehow doubt you're getting calls from the Great Beyond...

Sounds very much like a practical joke from someone who knows you, if you ask me...and not a particularly funny one, either...

But surely if they were researching John's address for a pratical joke they would have spotted obituaries at a thousand paces?

If they have done it as a joke, and they think you'll believe them, pretend to do just that, but also mention to them that they've managed to do something that even Thomas Edison couldn't achieve - vocally contact the dead.

THIS IS NOT A JOKE!!!!!!!!!!!
I thought it was when the girl said John Lennon called for me. Since I am new to this company, I do not know all of our clients. There IS a gentelman by the name of John Lennon who is a customer of ours, and he lives on W.72nd ST.I would not joke about something like that.

I am sure that there are other people in the universe that are named John Lennon...

But I don't think that it is The Beatle John Lennon. Someone is trying to play a nasty trick on you...

Their yanking your chain... majorly

Please BTTE, please tell me you don't really think that it is John Lennon, the Beatle!

There may very well be ANOTHER John Lennon on West 72nd Street someplace...I mean, there are THREE OTHER PEOPLE by the same name as my husband on our street too, right? But THE John Lennon is dead, BTTE, unless you haven't heard...and I don't think the telephone is the preferred way for people to get in touch from the Other Side.

I remember finding several people of that name in the Queens phone book in the 70s...when, of course, John lived in Manhattan and obviously didn't have a listed number.

West 72nd Street is quite long -- the Dakota's address is One West 72nd...and if you tell us that this "John Lennon" guy lives in the Dakota, I will tell you again that someone is yanking your chain...and you're yanking ours. Sorry, just don't buy it. graemlins/nono.gif

What was the message on the answering machine? Or was it just blank with a beep at the end?

Wow! there is some major confusion going on here!
First of all, I know that John is dead.I never said that the Beatle John was trying to get in touch with me.No one is playing a practical joke. This is for real!!!!! There IS a man by the name of John Lennon living on W. 72nd St. who is a customer of my company.I know that it is not THE John Lennon, nor did I ever think it was.

Thanks for clearing that up, BTTE! I think the way you phrased the intial post made some of us wonder a bit!

I do think it's pretty funny that someone with the same name lives on the same street, though. I'm not so sure I'd want to be that guy! images/icons/wink.gif

It is definatly pretty freaky tho. Being a Beatle fan and all, and having a client named that, on the same street. images/icons/wink.gif

how many John Lennon's does it take to fill the Albert Hall.

Come on, I understand it is creepy, but many people named Lennon after 1962 will have thought of giving their son the name John and also have done it. The UK will be full of John Lennon's.
Big deal.

But I can understand your reaction and therefore your 1st post; if you call him back, try not to sound nervous or uptight. This man will probably have dealt more with this. "Hi I'm John Lennon - Yeah sure and I am John F. Kennedy"

This is too cool. lol

Susan, I've done the same thing with the phone book from here. There were a few J. Lennons, and of course, my friends and I tried to call the numbers when we were 12. graemlins/laugh2.gif

-lennon4<font size="2" face="Tahoma, Arial, sans-serif">Hah, Kristin! My friend did that when we were younger too -- I vividly remember her calling one of the John Lennons listed in the Queens phone book and screaming into the poor man's ear when he answered! Embarrassing to look back on how stupid we were then! (Of course, remember too that this was around 1975-76, so OUR John was very much alive at the time...even worse for the poor guy on the other end of the phone!)

Are you sure he didn't say SEAN Lennon? Sounds like John, and we know he is living there.

I'm sorry I caused so much confusion with my original post. Here's the latest:
I spoke to this John Lennon guy the other day.I didn't use any Beatle references when I spoke to him.I'm sure he hears it all the time.I just told him I liked his name.
After doing some research in our system,I found that we have 3 customers with the name John Lennon. The curiosity was killing me, so I checked customers with the last names of McCartney, Harrison, Starr and Starkey. There were 3 McCartney's, but no Pauls.About 30 Harrison's, but no Georges.20 Starr's, but no Ringo's or Richards. And 3 Starkey's,no Richards.

I've a friend with the last name of Lennon, his first name isn't John, Sean or Julian which is sad. I love to tease him that the reason I'm friends with him is because of his last name, which isn't true of course...I think. images/icons/wink.gif
