Sadly, there are some victims of September 11th who have accused the makers of the film of cashing in on the tragedy by naming it 'The Two Towers'.
Since the film is 3 hours long, I'm going to wait until it comes out on video. images/icons/smile.gif

The book was called 'The Two Towers' long before the other 'Two Towers' were built.

Not only that but that's not even the name or nickname of the World Trade Center. It's the Twin Towers. You can't change the name of a great piece of literature.
I can't wait till tomorrow, I might actually be seeing it at a midnight showing, I'm excited!

Those books were written way way way before the first cornerstone was laid for the Twin Towers. That's just so lame, I can't believe it.
I just got through watching the first movie again over the weekend, and I can't wait for the next one. I usually don't like to see movies with full crowds, but I'll probably see it Wednesday or Thursday.

Rings fans reject Towers protest
The Two Towers were created by Tolkien 50 years ago
Fans of The Lord of The Rings in the UK have rejected claims that The Two Towers film title is offensive to victims of the World Trade Center attacks.
A US-based protest group has collected more than 3,000 signatures on an internet petition urging director Peter Jackson to rename the film.
It says the title bears too close a resemblance to the twin towers which were destroyed in the terrorist attacks in New York.
However on Thursday, Rings fans rejected the criticism and pointed out that author JRR Tolkien came up with the name about 50 years ago.
It's the title of the book and it would be unreasonable to expect people to change it
Sally Kennett, Tolkien Society
Sally Kennett, secretary of the Tolkien Society, said the protestors' concerns were "misplaced".
She told BBC News Online: "I completely understand people's distress and concern about the terrible events of 11 September.
"But the title has been around since the book was published in the 1950s and people have got the wrong end of the stick if they think it's got anything to do with current events."
Mrs Kennett added: "With all respect to what people are feeling, I think their concern is misplaced.
"It's the title of the book and it would be unreasonable to expect people to change it.
"The World Trade Center was always the twin towers, not two towers."
In this post-11 September world, it is unforgivable that this should be allowed to happen
Two Towers Protest Organisation
On its website, the Two Towers Protest Organisation describes the film title as "offensive and morally repugnant".
"The title is clearly meant to refer to the attacks on the World Trade Center," says the website.
It adds: "The name of this movie will undoubtedly cause a return of the emotions felt on 11 September which left so many people in the nation feeling stunned and in a state of shock."
Protestors blame director Peter Jackson for the name of the film
The towers of Tolkien's title belong to two wizards from his fictional creation of Middle-Earth.
They were based on old buildings including an 18th Century folly in Birmingham near to where the author grew up.
A spokeswoman for New Line Cinema, which made the film, said it had no comment on the protest.
The film's director Peter Jackson has been reported as saying he had considered renaming the film, "but the book is 50 years old and I don't think I could change the title even if I wanted to".

Y'know what? I'm from New York. And I think the people who are "protesting" the name of a film, when the book it was based on was called by that name over 50 years ago, are morons.
Please, gimme a break -- get real. It's NOT offensive, and to imply that it is somehow insensitive after 9/11 is just plain bizarre.
Some people have nothing better to do, and it shows.
Oh, and btw, Jim and I intend to go see the movie as soon as we can!

Riiiiight, since you can definitely notify the author and tell him the name needs to be changed. C'mon now...its a freakin movie and it has hobbits and elves in it! How can this be remotely related to 9/11...people have some serious issues.
I for one can't wait to see it, so I can scream LEGOLAS at the screen!!! images/icons/smile.gif

Political correctness, when taken to its extremes, is just silliness.
Not my kind of movie at all, but hope all of you who do see it enjoy it! images/icons/smile.gif

Since I regret not having seen the first one at
the show (saw it on video) I will DEFINITELY
be going to see "Two Towers". I may wait a wee
bit, though, 'til the crowds have died down a
little. I hope to see some reviews here!

LOL! This is the biggest load of crap I've read in a while...I'm actually laughing out loud about this! graemlins/laugh2.gif I never made the "connection" between the two until reading this post.
Anyway...I'm going Wednesday at the 7pm show! Whoohoo! I can't wait. graemlins/teeth1.gif

I think it is a bit stupid to say that it is insensitive to the victims. I remember seeing an interview with Peter Jackson when there was some talk of the title perhaps being changed and he was adament that it was not to be taken as a cash-in on the tragedy and that it was not offensive and that it would be more of a tribute if anything. I was under the impression though that all of those protests had died down now.
I see it on the 22nd - I am looking forward to it! I was outside the theatre with about a million others at the premiere here last week with all the stars arriving so that got me in the mood! To be honest I hate that kind of genre but I did enjoy the first one - and as a New Zealander I am almost obliged to go and look at the landscapes!

I say the whole idea about it being connected to the twin towers is just pathetic. I mean, if they had changed it in any way whatsoever to get it to resemble that name, then there would be some vague reason to say that, but, they didn't!! It's been named the Two Towers for a very looooooong time now, and while I think Tolkien's great, I don't think he was fortelling anything! And, to get back to the original topic, I saw the movie this morning (not quite midnight, this morning, more like 11:20 this morning:) I wanted to go to the midnight showing though!) and I thought it was great, though I'm beginning to think Peter Jackson and the other screen writers never even read the book, because it was hard to believe it was really based on it. Sometimes it was like how O Brother Where Art Though was based on the Odyssey. I didn't mind having extra parts about Aragorn all that much though.... images/icons/wink.gif

Do they really show the movie at midnight?
Lucy
Dec 19, 2002, 06:17 AM
Yeah they have midnight screenings of it everywhere! I am doing the sensible thing and going to a 7.30 screening otherwise I would be fast asleep by the time it was over. I am going to see it at the Odeon in Leicester Square so it should be very very good!

It would seem to me that showing it at midnight would discourage people from going to see it. graemlins/sleep1.gif * graemlins/sleep2.gif

Yeah, but isn't there some sort of curfew?

What curfew? There aren't any government implemented curfews around where I live, it wouldn't matter anyway I'm over the age that most curfews restrict.

Yesterday afternoon I went to a friend's house and we watched a dvd of The Fellowship Of The Ring (saw it last year), ate dinner, and went to the theater to see the Two Towers. that's a lot of middle earth in one day. Next year we'll have to train to pull off a triple marathon.

How exactly would you train for that? images/icons/wink.gif Ten minute increments adding ten more each day? images/icons/wink.gif

I know the part you are talking about. That was amazing. I wanted to rewind it and see it a second time.

Did anyone else notice how, in the scenes with the lightning, how Legolas' eyes looked almost translucent whenever the lightning struck? It was like how they used tiny Christmas lights whenever they did a closeup of Galadriel to show her wisdom amd how ethereal she was - it just adds another dimension to the film, the little things like that that you may not notice. Both films are great for stuff like that!
Has anybody else found the Easter Eggs on the extended Fellowship DVD??? images/icons/wink.gif *Let me know!!

I didn't see it in the movie maybe I didn't see it because I wasn't looking for it but it's not for lack of viewing. All totaled I've probably watched the first movie about 30 or 40 times now... It's amazing what about two weeks of being nearly bed ridden will do for the number of films you've watched.
