Since there were so many votes for "other" in my last poll ("other" actually tied with Jimi Hendrix!), I decided to give this another go. I'm still going to include an "other" option, simply because there just isn't enough space to list every guitarist on the planet!! But I have greatly expanded the list to include many well-deserving nominees, including our beloved George. And since there are so many nominees this time, I'll be asking for your top 10 instead of 5 like last time.

Let the voting begin!! graemlins/rocknroll2.gif

I voted for guitar gods George (our Beatle George), Jimi H, Eric C, Carlos Santana, the late great Stevie Ray Vaughan, Jeff Beck, Jerry Garcia, John Fogerty, Dave Gilmour and Ronnie Van Zandt.

The top 4 positions remain the same. However, there is now a 3-way tie for 5th place between David Gilmour, Brian May, and Carlos Santana!

Rock on, dudes!! graemlins/rocknroll2.gif

I voted for (in no particular order):
Jimi Hendrix, Jimmy Page, George Harrison, Eric Clapton, David Gilmour, Keith Richards, Pete Townshend, & The Edge. You'll notice that there are only eight names there, and we're allowed ten votes, that's because I put two votes towards both Page & Harrison. graemlins/wink3.gif They are my two all time favorite guitarists! graemlins/rocknroll2.gif
(I went and saw both Ben Harper & John Mayer in concert this summer, and they are both surprisingly great guitar players! Not sure that they would make it to my top ten list... but pretty dang good. images/icons/smile.gif )

BTW, great list Dave! graemlins/thumbsup2.gif

I could not resist the temptation to post this photo of a very unique guitar. It belongs to Rick Nielson of Cheap Trick. Is there a better design for a guitar?

You'd have to have six arms like Shiva to play that baby! (Absolutely no offense meant to Hindus...it just looks like a perfect guitar for a six-armed guitarist!)

BTW, I'm also fond of Gene Simmons' (of KISS) axe-shaped bass (he designed it himself, if I'm not mistaken)! graemlins/thumbsup2.gif

I voted for Ace Frehley, he may not actually be the best guitarist, but he has such a cool persona!

I also like Eddie Van Halen and Dave Gilmour (and of course George Harrison, but that is obvious!).

I hate to put Eric last, but someone has to be. Of course, I may be biased since I'm a huge Pink Floyd fan. images/icons/wink.gif And it's a crime to see Jimmy Page at #4! graemlins/images/icons/mad.gif

I think we should give some honorable mentions to some great female guitarists, too. Like, Nancy Wilson, Chrissie Hynde, The Bangles chicks and Melissa Etheridge. I guess when we think of great guitarists we think of these guys on the current list. We overlooked these gals. images/icons/frown.gif Oopsie!
