listen to indie rock on a college radio station or radio @ netscape plus if you want something other than pop.

I think she sold out when she did that naked video. But she's still good.

Well, my three picks are all from Weird Al's "The Alternative Polka."

Alternative music is pretty much any music that doesn't fit a typical formula. Take Alanis, for example. Back in the mid-90s, she wasn't your typical "all body, no talent" female singer.

Well, you were saying it means it's not as good. Which is totally off.

Alternative, to me, is like Enigma, Moby, Four Non Blondes, NIN, and the likes thereof. I could be wrong, tho... images/icons/wink.gif

I insinuated that it was more likely to mean that those artists were 'not as good'. In Britain, the charts are still a free-for-all (thankfully) which means that a record can come from nowhere and achieve a high chart position, regardless of genre or style. Over the years, some acts (and their fans) who have failed to convert their critical acclaim into high sales have argued that it was because their music was too 'non-mainstream' (or 'alternative' if you like), rather than because it wasn't any good in the first place: which, whichever way you look at it, is a cop-out.

Ok, though now I am a tid bit confused as to what I even think alternative music is I will say that one of my favorite "alternative" music groups is Travis. Cause it's an "alternative" to listening to mainstream music. images/icons/wink.gif

One of the reasons I like Alanis is because people say I do a great impression of her. I don't know if that's a good thing or not, but I'm sure it will get me far in life.

Well I really like Coldplay...I guess they fit the alternative category. Does anyone know what the defining feature is that makes alternative music alternative? I have no idea!
