Is there any song you just cannot STAND to hear, it just gives you the 'heebie-jeebies'? I would have to name "Dream Weaver" by Gary Wright. I HATE that song, its damn weird. When I was a kid, it seemed they always played it right before a major storm. So maybe thats it, its so evocative of that it just brings back the creeps full-on. So, anyone else have a musical equivalent to clowns?

They're coming to take me away!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Remember when you ran away
And I got on my knees
And begged you not to leave
Because I'd go berserk?
Well. . .

You left me anyhow
And then the days got worse and worse
And now you see I've gone
Completely out of my mind
And. . .

They're coming to take me away, HA HA
They're coming to take me away, HO HO HEE HEE HA HA
To the funny farm
Where life is beautiful all the time
And I'll be happy to see
Those nice, young men
In their clean, white coats
And they're coming to take me away, Ha-haaa!

You thought it was a joke
And so you laughed
You laughed when I had said
That losing you would make me flip my lid
Right. . .

You know you laughed, I heard you laugh
You laughed, you laughed and laughed
And then you left
But now you know I'm utterly mad!
And. . .

They're coming to take me away, HA HA
They're coming to take me away, HO HO HEE HEE HA HA
To the happy home
With trees and flowers and chirping birds
And basket weavers who sit and smile
And twiddle their thumbs and toes
And they're coming to take me away, Ha-haaa!

I cooked your food
I cleaned your house
And this is how you pay me back
For all my kind, unselfish loving deeds?!!
Hah. . .

Well you just wait
They'll find you yet
And when they do they'll
Put you in the ASPCA, you mangy mutt!
And. . .

They're coming to take me away, HA HA
They're coming to take me away, HO HO HEE HEE HA HA
To the funny farm
Where life is beautiful all the time
And I'll be happy to see
Those nice, young men
In their clean, white coats
And they're coming to take me away, Ha-haaa!

To the happy home
With trees and flowers and chirping birds
And basket weavers who sit and smile
And twiddle their thumbs and toes
And they're coming to take me away, Ha-haaa!

To the funny farm
Where life is beautiful all the time
And I'll be happy to see

I just realized that was the song that these two girls used to sing all the time! It is SCARY. They sang it with wide eyes and in these crazy voices, which made the thing even worse...

I have to defend Gary Wright. Dream Weaver introduced me to spritual rock. It was so ethereal that it caught my attention first hearing. I was like he really wanted God to hear him sing that song.

"They're coming to take me away" ick ick ick!

"If you want to be happy for the rest of your life" Don't remember the artist, don't care to. The song basically tells guys to marry only ugly girls, cuz they're so desparate, they'll do anything for you! Another ick ick ick from me!

I made the mistake of buying Nine Inch Nails' THE DOWNWARD SPIRAL and listening to it. It may well stand up as a classic and a tribute to the genius of Trent Reznor, but it's as easy to listen to as Phillip Glass.

Beatlegirls story reminds me of the time I fell asleep with the headphones on, and woke up to "House of the Rising Sun" with its eerie organ. I'd never heard it before I guess, and I freaked!
BTW JDanRyan, is that GL quote from the classic ONeal/Adams stories?

I love that album but it's frightening as hell. It's even scarier when you find out that it was recorded in the same house that Sharon Tate was murdered at.

yikes, that "they're coming to take me away" song does sound creepy. now i need to hear it!

i become completely enraged when i hear anything by creed, dave matthews band, any of thos faux-punk bands, avril levigne, bob segar...or just about anything on pop and classic rock radio.

but creed creeps me out the WORST. i could throw my remote at them when i see them on tv! that guy really needs to try blinking and smiling once or twice.

Well, for sheer creepiness factor, Revolution 9 would be at #1 of my list... *shivers* I don't know what it is about that song that just sends literal shivers up my spine...

I think, given the sick association with the Charles Manson, Helter Skelter would be up there. It's a great song, but when I heard the story about those murders it wrecked it for me.

Non-Beatles songs?: anything by those pseudo-alt-rock bands (Nickelback, Creed, Theory of a Dead Man) because THEY ALL THE SOUND THE SAME!!!;
any of that "death metal" or whatever it's called; and, sadly, a song called "Freedom" by David Gray... it's a really beautiful song, but I was listening to it the day of my friend's funeral, and now I can't listen to it without thinking of him or the funeral.

Basically any of those songs that are intentionally spoken in correctly cause it's "cool", not to be funny or something noble like that. images/icons/wink.gif I heard one today that was called "Right Thurr" It just makes me shudder because I know in two weeks I'll be subjected to most of my generation and the generation below me using the new pronunciation and labelling me as a loser because I prefer to speak my English correctly, or atleast far more correct than they will ever say or know.

I agree on Muskrat Love, and what about MacArthur's Park, and Honey, and Patches, and Red Rubber Ball, and Green Tamborine, and all those other insipid, terrible things that somehow passed as music?! Oh yea--and most of the new (current) music gives me the creeps, too!

Any thing from the album "Smells like children" by Marilyn Manson. Especially the first track, it sounds like little children screaming and crying. One day I was listening to it with headphones and when I finished hearing that, I threw the discman away from me and turned all the lights on! Really scary! I've never listened to that cd again ever since.

I don't care for an awful lot of her music, but I respect her ability not to let anyone step all over her or make her conform to some "old boys' network" idea of how a woman in rock should behave.

As for creepy songs...I'm with Lynn on "If You Want to Be Happy for the Rest of Your Life" -- and also "Under My Thumb" by the Rolling Stones for its perfectly disgusting, sexist, misogynistic lyrics...ewwwwwwww...turn it off every time I hear it...oh, and "Crimson and Clover" by Tommy James -- I HATE the echoey effect when he's singing, "criiiiiiiimmmmmmsoonnnnn and cloooooovveeer, ooover anddd ooover...." {shudder} graemlins/afraid1.gif

I've got a good one. What about that song "In the Year 2525", or whatever it's called? It talks about people turning into pill-popping zombies in the future...kinda reminds you of Huxley's book "Brave New World." Only this song is majorly freaky. Madonna's got a cool new video out. Yeah we stopped talking about her a few posts ago, but whatever.

The song that creeps me out is "Rainforests." I don't know the artist, but it's just some people talking about cutting down rainforests. One of the lyrics is "Rainforests are the devil, we've got to kill the devil."

The inner groove of the Sgt. Pepper album scares me! I especially hate the high pitched sound before the senseless chatter. I made the mistake of telling my brother that I hated it and it hut my ears, so he played the noise non-stop for a full three minutes. That noise is to me what a football in the crotch is for a guy, lol.

I like Revolution 9. The only time it scared me was when it was darrk and I decided to play it backwards. graemlins/afraid1.gif

A word of advice to you all: Never, ever, ever listen to the Lord of the Rings soundtrack when you're trying to sleep... graemlins/sleep1.gif graemlins/afraid1.gif

Anywho, Genesis is pretty messed up and kinda creepy. But I guess Pink Floyd falls into the same category.

Now, as for now-a-dsya stuff; as much as I like rock n' roll, I hate my generation's stuff, Good Charlette, Linkin park, Sum 41, etc, all those wannabe punk "rockers." And pop bands/stars give me the creeps too. I can't remember who said this but "You hafta play instruments to be a band." images/icons/tongue.gif And what's up with rap? It all really sounds the same to me (with a FEW exceptions). It's all f this and f that.
