What concert have you been to that you consider a waste of money and time?
I think mine was one of the "last night of the proms" concerts here in Rotterdam. UB40 was the main act and that Campbell guy was more interested in chewing his gum than entertaining the crowd.
Fortunately one of the other acts was Alessandro Saffina, so my evening was not a complete waste.

Hope this doesn't offend anyone, but one of the worst was Julian Lennon. Our seats were waaaaaay up in the nosebleeds and the opening act was a magician, so obviously that was a total loss. Julian wasn't bad, but I never really cared for his music that much and only really went to the concert so my friends wouldn't get p**ed off at me.
Another really bad one was Howard Jones. The only reason I went to see him was because I loved the opening act (Marshall Crenshaw). I had really good seats, around the 3rd row. When Howard came on, I just kind of sat there and watched for a while until some screaming teenybopper came up and yelled "YOU DON'T DESERVE THESE SEATS!!!! You don't even LOOOOOOOOOOOVE HIMMMMMMMM!!!" in my ear. Then I went out and wandered around the lobby for the rest of the show. graemlins/images/icons/rolleyes.gif

Sad to say the worst concert I've been to was the Who, Alpine Valley, Wisconsin. The concert itself (what little I actually saw) was okay, but the overall experience was horrible! We got stuck in concert traffic and missed a good chunck of the show. It's a outdoor venue, we had lawn seats, or shall I say, mud seats, as it had stormed the night before. The Grateful Dead had played the night before, and nothing against their fans, but they wouldn't leave the parking lot, so finding a place to park was close to impossible. Hard to really enjoy the show by the time we got there!

The very worst concert I've seen was Gordon Lightfoot...terrible. He did all his songs at the same sped up tempo and after each one yelled, "Well, all right!" hehe Terrible. My car was parked, like, sandwiched as they do sometimes, so I could not even leave! Ahhh!!!
I do like lots of his songs, though...but just not 'live'.

The worst concert I ever went to was a Bob Dylan concert at my college a few years back. He played most of his new songs (and I didn't really know his new stuff). Plus, he was a dot on stage, neither I nor my friends could see him. We sat in the wheelchair section because two of my friends were in wheelchairs. But I didn't lose any money because my friend paid for the tickets. It was nice of him to do that, I wish the concert would've been better though. He even agreed with me that it wasn't that good and he knew Dylan's new stuff.

Like I mentioned in the other thread, I've only been to two non-Beatlefest/non-Beatles tribute band concerts. So of course, my worst experiece would probably be having to sit through some of the concerts at the Fests. I rarely stay the whole time when the guest musicians get up and do their thing.

The worst concert I've ever been to was probably the Spice Girls concert back in 1998. They were about an hour and a half late (they didn't have an opening act) and, so far, it's the only concert I've ever been to that had a 25 minute intermission! graemlins/thumbsdown.gif

Spice Girls, same story here. More then an hour late AND an intermission. The audience, mostly little kids (with their moms or dads) had a hard time staying awake.
The only reason I was there was because I had to accompany two little girls too and someone else paid my ticket images/icons/wink.gif

For me it was a Cliff Richard concert in Rotterdam somewhere end 70's. I had seen him the year before which was great but that show was filled with gospel like songs - which I would love - but performed in a very not inspiring way.
I sat through the whole concert which was the first and the last time I did that at a popular music concert.
Second would be also one of the 'Last Night Of The Proms' shows which Taxgirl mentioned.
I was invited there and the second year I went, it was really becoming a drag, a very bad try-to-copy version of the real one in the Royal A. Hall in London I believe which is really good.
Even the Hey Jude nanana's passed by which was my wake up call to leave.

The Stones, believe it or not. Last year I was sitting on the side near the stage on the 1st level in a stadium and the speakers were right in front of us and the music was so loud it was barely distinquishable. Not worth the effort to go.

Three years ago, I went to see an Elvis "impersonator" at the Pantages Playhouse in Winnipeg and saw a show so bad that it actually made the papers. The headline was something like "Elvis came to play, but it was the fans who left the building" which is exactly what happened. The guy was grossly overweight and wore the black leather suit Elvis used in his Comeback Special. He sat on a chair for almost the entire show and just read the lyrics off a piece of paper. Even then he resorted to mumbling lines that he didn't know here and there. He sounded as if he were choking on a chicken bone while attempting the deedeedeedee bits of That's All Right. Even though I realize that by "Elvis Impersonator" I should expect "Elvis Parodyist", this show was terrible.

I hate to admit it, but it was Bob Dylan, when he was touring with Paul Simon. (I think it was 1999?) Paul went on first and his set was terrific, but Dylan's was awful! graemlins/images/icons/frown.gif
Maybe it's just because I'm not a big Dylan fan (especially not of his more recent stuff), but he just sounded totally incoherent. I couldn't even recognize the songs I knew WELL! My boyfriend wanted to leave early, but I said I'd wait until Bob played my boyfriend's favorite song. And then he told me that he had already played it! graemlins/dork2.gif

Easy! LeAnn Rimes. I believe it was 2, maybe 3 years ago, in Alpine (near El Cajon, etc) at the Viejas Outlet Center--during their outdoor summer concerts. My best friend secured the tickets--and then told me he had done so--he didn't check with me first! (And...I'm not a huge fan like he is, though I don't mind it when she does Patsy Cline-style stuff, but it wasn't like I needed to see her...) It was a huge waste of $60 (at that time the highest price I had paid for a concert; and money was a bit tight for me then...)!!! First off, she spent most of her time telling us how "tough her life had been" during that year graemlins/cry2.gif --and--how great she is, and how "lucky we were" graemlins/clap1.gif to have her there that evening (you know, that whole diva trip). Then she proceeded to spend a lot of her time just talking to the other musicians on the stage, completely ignoring the audience (I paid for that?!) and THEN--she only did maybe...5 songs?! I couldn't believe it! I will never go to see her again! I'm sorry, but spare me the sob stories graemlins/cry5.gif , and the ego-trip, and play me some tunes, that's what I paid for!!!

That's an easy one:
I went to a concert which was organised by a Dutch radio station. I was held in a soccer stadium here in Rotterdam. The called it the "Los Vast Spektakel" translated as "Loose Tight Spectacle"(what's in a name, right ?) Attendance about 60.000 people. Lots of international performers, like Kim Wilde. Nothing happened until a Dutch band called De Havenzangers (The Harbour Singers) graemlins/barf4.gif *came on stage.
They sang some sort of Dutch folk music, which I hate ! but everyone stood up from their seat (except me of course) and started to do funny dances. This was my time to leave the building.....

The absolute worst concert I ever saw would have to be this free one I saw at the exhibition when it rolled through Edmonton a few years ago. Before I say who it was that I saw performing, I will stress that I didn't go to the concert with the intention of watching this band: I believe I mis-read the schedule and came a day earlier (I wanted to see Serial Joe) but it didn't register because the crowd was full of pre-teen girls and their older brothers... typical Serial Joe fans at the time... and then this freaking Spice Girls tribute band walks out on stage. It was terrible. They looked like the Spice Girls, but they sounded like alley cats.
Second worst would have to be the Backstreet Boys concert in October 2001. They showed images of fire and explosions and spaceships blowing up in outer space, not even a month after September 11th (and they even lost one of their crew members on one of the planes) It was just in poor taste. Our seats were great, the music was okay, but the seeming lack of respect was appalling when I thought about it after...

The worst concert I attended was one of those radio birthday bashes. I went to it to be with my friends, well it was horrible. The only sunshiny moment of it was when Wyclef Jean performed cause he actually made an effort to draw the audience in. The other acts Otown, Vitamin C, and some other one hit wonders I can't remember were very bland and only made the obligatory "How are you guys doing tonight?" "This one's for the people in the back." "I see some lovely ladies out there tonight"
