Hi all! I just have to share my experience with somebody, so here goes! Last night (June 30) the whole family (my parents, younger brother and I) went to Humphrey's By The Bay (a venue here in San Diego) and saw, not only the great Sam Moore (of Sam and Dave) but also the fabulous Taj Mahal (he's a blues cat) in concert! It was incredible! Sam did an hour long set and did all of his (and the late Dave's) big hits ("Hold On, I'm Comin'", "Soul Man", etc)--and grooved a lot, too! That man has some amazing moves in him! And then Taj came on, with his huge hula band (lots of ukuleles, a slack-key guitar player, etc! A huge band! All excellent!) and rocked out! He did a ton of blues hits ("Stagger Lee", "Gonna Move on Up the Country and Paint My Mailbox Blue", etc) and a lot of the new Hawaiian-style stuff from the new album (Hanapepe Dream)--including a beautiful instrumental piece called "Hanapepe Dream" (the title track), a new Hawaiian-style version of "My Creole Belle" (one of my favorites he does), and a nice number called "Moonlight Lady". It was an awesome show! Both performers interacted a lot with the audience, and did their best to ensure that we were having fun! It was an incredible experience and I just wanted to share it with you all! Thanks for letting me do so!!! (And, if you dig either artist, I would encourage you to do your best to see them--it is well worth it !!!) Peace!

Great show Beatlechick.
I had the pleasure of being at one of Bruce Springsteen's Christmas shows where it is like Bruce and friends last Dec in Convention Hall, Asbury Park (small place) and Sam Moore was one of the guests.

He did Hold On, I'm Coming and Soul Man with Bruce and Steve as backup (play it Steve) and really stole the show.
When Sam came onstage, Bruce was bowing down to him and told a story of how he learned how to manage a band by watching Sam in the early days with Sam And Dave.
At the end of the show, Sam came back out to sing the soulful My City Of Ruins with Bruce and was an all time highlight of any show I've ever seen.

I didn't notice at first that this thread was started last year but what the heck. Sam Moore deserves the recognition.
