Joe Perry from Aerosmith and Keith Richards from The Rolling Stones, got my vote, among others. But where's George? He was a darn good lead guitarist. I also voted for "other" because my favorite lead guitarist other than George is Richie Sambora of Bon Jovi. He's awesome! images/icons/smile.gif

I voted for other because Jeff Beck wasn't listed. IMO, the only other guitarist, who comes close is Jimi Hendrix.

I chose Clapton, Slash, May, Knopfler and "other" option for my favorite finnish guitar hero Pantse Syrjä.

What about Stevie Ray Vaughn, Carlos Santana, and Joe Satriani?
I know there are many, and not all could be in the poll, or could they? graemlins/lookaround.gif

What about George,Joe Walsh,Neil Young or Neil Geraldo? Peter Frampton is an underappreciated lead guitarist.

No one comes close to Hendrix. I've seen a lot of stuff out there that's difficult to play, especially a bunch of Clapton's work, but none of it compares to Hendrix.

Alex Lifeson, John Fogerty, Tony Iommi, David St. Hubbins, Bruce Kulick, Marc Bolan....

For me, it would have to be Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton, Pete Townshend, Joe Perry, and Keith Richards (not in any particular order). But if I could only pick one, it would be Keith Richards. I mean he's played like so many memorable riffs.

I'm not surprised at all to see Jimi Hendrix leading the pack. Nor am I surprised to see Jimmy Page and Eric Clapton not far behind.

I am surprised to see only 2 votes (as of this writing) for Eddie Van Halen! I thought he would have fared MUCH better than that!! graemlins/images/icons/confused.gif

And so far, NO votes for Rick Nielsen!! images/icons/frown.gif

Hey! All Brian May fans, come out of the closet and tell that you voted for "the clog-wearing hair-guy". How can you NOT love his playing? graemlins/inlove1.gif

Two good ones I forgot to vote are Carlos Santana and John Fogerty because they weren't mentioned in the list. I guess there's too many good guitarists in the world. John and George were amongst them. images/icons/smile.gif

My top five are:
(in no order)

Eddie Van Halen
Dave Gilmour
Pete Townshend
Eric Clapton
and other:

John Petrucci from the band Dream Theater. I don't know why but I really seem to enjoy this group and Petrucci is amazing at the guitar, I heard something to the extent that Petrucci can play sixteenth note runs at 220.

My votes went to Jimmy Page (Zepp), Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton, Dave Gilmour (Floyd), and even though this is the "Not Only a Northern Song" forum I had to vote "other" and say George Harrison. It seemed unnatural to pick my five favorite lead guitarists and not list him. So there it is, my top five. (Looks like that's pretty close to your picks Nancy; I must say your taste in music is impeccable! images/icons/wink.gif )
