I know some of you get bashed for liking The Beatles but would you bash someone who doesn't like The Beatles? I have voiced my disapproval of Eminem but I wouldn't diss my brother for liking him(I'll leave that up to my mother).

Nah, I'm pretty tolerant of other people's tastes in entertainment. Why waste time getting upset about what somebody else likes? images/icons/smile.gif

I don't have to agree with them, but I certainly don't bash them for having what I might consider "bad" taste!

I wouldn't bash anyone but I always try to get my friends into the Beatles music.
I can find a match between Beatles and everything, literally and when I start to talk about this my buddies just seem to think: "Here he goes with his Beatles...." images/icons/grin.gif

I wouldn't normally bash someone because of it because everyone's entitled to their own opinion. If however I get treated like muck because of my tastes then I argue the toss as to why the Beatles are a million times better than their loser-bands images/icons/wink.gif
Seen that new band that's come out? Big Bruvas or however you spell it. How crap can music get???

I'm pretty much in agreement. I just consider those non-Beatle people part of the unenlightened. images/icons/smile.gif

Yeah I agree that I wouldn't bash them. Sometimes I've tried to get them to like the Beatles actually! Especially if they've never heard them. I tried to get one of my friends to like the beatles but she just "tolerates" them. She understands that they're really good and worthy of respect though which is cool!

Absolutely not. It would be like carrying a sign reading, "Hey, Look at me. I'm immature." We should thrive on our differences, because if everyone liked the same thing the world would be a rather dull place, in my humble opinion.

No, I wouldn't, but I think people should stop bashing me liking The Beatles!

I wouldn't do that. Everyone is entitled to their opinion and tastes... Who am I to bash them for what they think is groovy? That's not me.
I only wish people would do the same with me more often.

Oh dear....this is almost worse than "Who's your least favourite Beatle?" - *sigh*.......
Don't you know that you can count me OUT....
No, I wouldn't. I'm too busy actually listening to the music itself, and you don't preach when it comes to this band. Why bother with this 'bashing people' mentality? Why even think that way?
And why pity them? They're not right or wrong, or bad even, they're just different. If we all agreed on the same thing, there'd be no reason to debate or discuss anything and not only would this site probably not exist if not the whole WWW, then there'd be much much less communication in the world.....
I can't think of a more Non-Beatle attitude.
Or even anti-Beatle way of thinking.
"Come together and start bashing people 'coz they don't think like you" doesn't quite have the same ring to it, does it?? Not really.
Wouldn't half be a bugger to try and sing as well.
NO-ONE has the right to say "That's rubbish" or "They are crap"...I think "I personally don't like it" would be better.
And why consider them sad? Why are you looking for people to place yourself above anyway?
I'd feel more inclined to pity you more than I would them for that type of insecurity.
And I'm NOT trying to sound rude here....
Some months ago, I had an annual phone-call from an operator at BT(the main UK Telephone network)asking me if I was happy with my current package, any complants or line faults etc, just a general check-up on my phone service.
At what was obviously the end of the call the guy said "OK Sir, Now - is there anything AT ALL that you want to ask me?" - so I took him up on his kind offer and said "Right - The Beatles - best band in the world, yes or no?" (Remember - he said 'anything at all') and he (slightly nervously) replied "Oh, er, I wouldn't know Sir"....so I suggested to him gently without preaching to obtain some music of theirs, telling him it was "Excellent therapy" considering it's mainly the reason I'm still breathing...
(I'm autistic - go on, disown me if you must)
And I didn't charge him for it either.
Now, why on Earth think "Oh, isn't that sad, there's someone working for BT who doesn't listen to The Beatles - must be a sad life"....NO - it's not sad at all, it's just some dude who wants to innocuously work for BT as a phone operator and doesn't share my musical tastes, that's his business - he ain't complaining!! He's happy enough! And at least he's got a job of some sort.
Silly topic.
I hope it was meant sarcastically.
I'm sick & tired of reading things by uptight short-sighted narrow-minded hypocritics.

Beatle Niel, did you even read the replies to this topic? Not one person said they would put someone down for not liking the Beatles, not even the person who started the topic.
While I agree with your points, I think the narrow minded hipocrite comment went a little too far.

The people i know who dont like The Beatles havent listened to them at all except hearing Yellow Submarine or something on the TV, and they dont like music which isnt played on the radio. You cant call them music- interesed so i wouldnt bash them, they are just that stupid.

I never bash people for not liking the Beatles but when they ask me why I like them, I can supply a million reasons why I think they are the best band in the entire universe and always will be. The only time I would ever get nasty with someone about not liking the Beatles is when someone says something totally uncalled for and that's when I tell them, "Look, keep your comments to yourself and I'll do the same."
Ya know what I mean?

I would never bash someone for their musical choices. I like to jokingly go into to shock or such when a friend says they aren't a Beatles fan, but as long as they don't bash me I have no problem with their music tastes.

Depends... someone just not liking the Beatles "Don't bother me".
But bashing them, mocking them or putting them down ? That I would have a problem with, be it about the Beatles or anything else. I have a ton of artists & other things I don't like but I don't bash them for it.
Example: Céline Dion
As a fellow Québécois, she's O.K. but her cover of MY Roy Orbison's "I drove all night" irks me to no end ! But I won't call her names over it...
Even a Beatle joke, if done funilly, would not put me off.
In the Red Dwarf series... talking of alternate parallel universes: "... where Ringo was actually a good drummer".
Or Saturday Night Live, "Yesterday Paul McCartney received more that 4 million emails during a chat he did, 2 million of those emails coming from Ringo Starr..."
Heck, even The Beatles themselves usually had a pretty healthy sense of humor about stuff like that, hence George participating in the Rutles' "All you need is cash".
But negative bashing...

Well of course not. The most I would do is either ignore them if they started making fun of the Beatles or in the case of a rational person, just ask them how much Beatles music they had actually listened to. You'll find in a lot of cases, the people who say that have limited to no knowledge of Beatle music and tend to think of "Yellow Submarine" or "She Loves You", etc, when "Beatles" comes to mind. I know this because I used to be sort of like that. Not making fun, but in my case, I honestly didn't realize a lot of known Beatle songs were actually the Beatles, if that makes sense, and was really shocked at the number of songs I knew well when I started looking.
I just recently within the past couple years really got into the Beatles (i'm a female in my early 20s). I have always been a casual music listener, but never much paid attention to who sang what. I had always had a respect for the Beatles in the same way I currently respect Elvis. I'm not into his music much, but I understand his place and importance in music history.
I think most people with a decent music knowledge (no matter what age) tend to be fans or at least have a big respect and appreciation for the Beatles. If you get someone who has no knowledge of the Beatles, they either are someone somewhat young who isn't even into music at all, or someone who has no interest in "rock" type music.

Once had a guy at work tell me he didn't like them except a few songs on the "White album" and on "The end" because of the guitar solos by... Jimmy Hendricks, Eric Clapton and Pete Townsend.
Try as I did, he would listen to reason (that non of those three ever played on that track).
Or another girl at work, telling me that John started wearing glasses to look cool towards the end. She changed her tune when I told her that John was as blind as a bat and showed her the pictures of him with the Buddy Holly glasses.

I would bash anyone who doesn't like The Beatles or The Doors. They already bash me for thinking I do drugs when I don't......
