I have loved the Bealtes all my life and have never found another band that could ever come close..

However, there is another band whose songs have really made a huge impact on me.. Oasis.

Noel Gallagher is a true genius, Songs such as Little by Little, Live Forever, The Master Plan, Gas Panic, Wonderwall, Don't Look Back in Anger and Champagne Supernova are just a few examples of his amazing talent.

These songs with Liam's voice never fail to blow me away..

What do you think? I'm interested to hear your opinions!

I like Oasis, especially the first 2 albums, but I think U2 have a more consistent career, and were able to be always at the top, either being able to follow emerging musical tendencies different from their original style, or even creating their own. Joshua Tree is one of the best albums of the last 30 years, I think.

Oasis,in my opinion are a decent band, nothing more nothing less.Their first album is fantastic no doubt and the second full of great singles but after that they lost their way a bit.Their most recent effort is a sort of return to form but sadly the edge has gone.Noel Gallacher a genius? - I don't think so!.
His songwriting (IMO) is very amatuer and without Liams vocals would be shown up more than they are.
One thing that is for sure - they are brilliant live.

Since this really has to do with Oasis, not the Beatles, I'm going to move it to Not Only A Northern Song... images/icons/smile.gif

Hm, I don't know, but I really like the Dave Matthews Band. There are some songs that are questionable, but for the most part, the lyrics and the melodies aren't bad. Lie In Our Graves and Tripping Billes are just fantastic.

hmm..this one band called Sloan is really retro sounding, there nothing compared to the beatles, but in my eyes, nothing is.

I like bands like The Rolling Stones, The Who, Aerosmith, The Beach Boys, ABBA etc... but The Beatles are top of the pops for this one!

i don't think so. . .
maybe in england, where they are lauded as the second coming, but the only impact these guys had stateside was 'wonderwall'.
in order to be 'the next beatles' i believe they would need a string of #1's lasting a few years or so. not just a bunch of publicity of how rowdy and infintile they are . . .
i really like blur alot more, and they don't come off sounding like 'revolver' era posers, and don't talk about how they are deserving of the title the next beatles.
oasis had one good lp, (morning glory'), while blur has quite a few great british pop lp, sounding like the kinks, xtc, beatles, just to name a few. to me all oasis sounds the same. . .

Sleepybomb: I didn't say that Oasis deserved the Title of the next Beatles now did I? In my opinion no-one deserves that title 'cause there never will be another Beatles, ever. I just said that there was one band whose songs have really made a huge impact on me.. Oasis.

I don't think you could have heard the Heathen Chemistry Album.

btw I think Blur are absulute rubbish.

Blur are generally rubbish but their new album Think Tank is very good.
Interesting that Wonderwall made an impact in the US as in my opinion its one of their worst songs.

Although I'm sure many would disagree with my interpretation, I've never thought that in order to be considered "great" you had to have top ten hits or strings of #1's or popular attention. In fact, that kind of stuff does not greatness guarantee. If you look at some of the acts that have been so unbelievably successful, like many of the boybands or female pop stars, I think you may just agree with me.

I remember flipping through channels a few years back and seeing the Backstreet Boys on some show where they were compared equally to the Beatles. The host was like, "You are the new Beatles." And these Backstreet Boys were like, "well, we get that a lot." graemlins/images/icons/shocked.gif graemlins/images/icons/shocked.gif graemlins/images/icons/shocked.gif I was like "whaa-at?!!!?!!" And yet they are apparently one of the most successful acts of all time, so there's my point right there. (I can't say I've ever been much of a fan of theirs, though, so my opinion may be unfair.)

Oasis is a good band. Derivative of the Beatles? Absolutely- and in particular John. But I'm not one to think that is necessarily a bad thing. Atleast they set their standards high.

However, I'm just a bit in disagreement, up in the sky with lucy, on your description of Noel Gallagher as a "true genius." The word genius is thrown about quite freely lately- anyone is a genius now. But there is, of course, a different opinion to everything. My geniuses just have to have a little more I guess. But that's alright. images/icons/smile.gif

Apple Scruff: While I Agree with most of what you say, I too am not one to lable anyone a genius freely.

However, Noel Gallagher is not just anyone and I can't think of any other songwriter today that deserves the title of genius more than he does.

I stick by my origanal comment.Great live band,Great first album and Noel a very ordinary songwriter.

This is a tricky question because you have to remember the Beatles were a REAL BAND. They actually played instruments, so in that way, with that criteria, I would say the Bee Gees etc., would not qualify because they had additional people playing behind them.

Yes, I have to say here in the United States, Oasis are not that well received, it's true the only hit they had here was WONDERWALL. I know in England they are much higher. So that would leave for me to choose among real bands in the US- such as Bon Jovi, U2, Aerosmith, the Clash re popular but I would have give Best Band to Nirvana- they had a huge impact not only here but introduced the whole grunge style. The music is awesome, the lyrics are awesome- that's just my opinion, I'm sure if there were real critics picking, it would go to U2.

graemlins/inlove2.gif I'm a Radiohead fan. graemlins/inlove2.gif graemlins/inlove2.gif

I'm not calling anyone a genius, but I saw Radiohead live 4 times and the next time they come my way, I sure as hell will go again. As far as their music? Although I'm aware that they've been labeled as both "overrated" and "critical darlings" by many, I can't find fault with them. I mean, Thom Yorke's voice...God its like HEAVEN for me. Well, maybe not quite heaven in the literal sense, but just about as high up there as you can get.

And as far as lyrical/musical/style and all that...they are TOPS to me. But, there again, I have always been in agreement with the level of attention payed to Nirvana. Whether you like them or not, they revoultionized a new sound for a new generation. And that's saying things in typical big words, but delve in deeper and you'll understand how.

*Of course, I am speaking of CURRENT bands here, not the ones that have been around for awhile, nor the ones who have long since disbanded. Speaking of non-current bands would be a different matter entirely for me.

XTC comes closest for me, particularly on their albums from the early '80s and beyond. They haven't gotten 1% of the publicity the Beatles continue to have, but they are a distinctly British band still going (we hope). Check them out.

Cheers.

I haven't heard enough of Oasis to truly form an opinion of their music, but I can definitely say I hate their attitudes..

None of the bands I listen to even come close to the Beatles (It sounds harsh, but you guys know that the Beatles were something that just can't be compared with) but I do enjoy:

Eric Clapton, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Bob Dylan, Simon & Garfunkel (I love them!), Phantom Planet, Ben Kweller, David Bowie, etc..

I don't know if you are like that.

The best band since The Beatles are They Might Be Giants.

Kraftwerk . Minimalist approach to music with electronic instruments. They have had a huge influence on dance and club remixes. Hip Hop is almost unthinkable with out them.

Kraftwerk is a true inovator in music.
