View Full Version : What kind of car do you drive?

I just read a post that got me wondering what kind of cars do we have. I'm the proud owner of a 1988 metallic blue Chevy Cavalier. His name is Fred. And yes, I've had him since '88. I just love my car.
So...what are you driving these days?

Well, I drive a red 1993 Toyota Tercel named Max. After being parked on the streets of Chicago for 9 years, he has a few dents and rust spots, but I still love him dearly! http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/smile.gif

Harb, the bus system in Austin is pretty dismal, too, it means I have to generally stick pretty close to home. Once I get 15 miles or so away from my house, it gets difficult and time consuming to get around.

Ah, my favorite topic these days! We just got a brand new car -- a cranberry-colored 2002 Chrysler PT Cruiser! WE LOVE IT!! This was after 10 years of driving a very reliable but otherwise unexciting 1992 Nissan Sentra...a very good car, but it was time to replace it! And boy, do we just adore our new car! It doesn't have a name yet, we're waiting until we discover the personality -- we've only had it two weeks, after all...
We're hoping to get personalized license plates for it soon, too...they will read: FAB4FANS! (Tell the world you are a Beatles fan, it's good for the spirit!)

I too have to rely on the buses here, but awhile back my car was a 1964 Rambler American convertible. I was in the process of restoring it. It was a light blue colour and I was going to have a small mural of the Beatles painted on the trunk lid.Oh well, long time ago, long gone.

But if I did actually get myself together and take the darn drivers test my car would be of the 1992 Dodge P.O.S. model. Which I would share with my brother.

Very fine car and runs fab. I'm guessing around 140,000 miles on it. If it had a cd player installed I'd practically live in it. It's ok on gas, but at this point in time anything that uses gas is a guzzler, because the gas is too damn expensive!

I have this little, tiny two door Honda Civic (1995). It's purple. It may not go very fast, (actually it has an engine about the size of my old Barbie Jeep- remember those?) and it may not be very flashy, but it's got 117,000 miles on it and runs like new. The car's best feature: it gets 40.5 miles to the gallon. Alas, I've never come up with a name for her, though.

I don't drive, because I'm too dopey. Two weeks after passing my test 1n 1976 I was on my way to work on a TV soundtrack in Manchester - well, more than on my way - when I realised that I was thinking about something other than driving the car so intently that I'd driven right past the city and left it forty miles behind. I figured that if I could do that then I simply wasn't a safe driver, and I've never driven since. As my sight has got progressively worse, I would have disqualified myself by now anyway.
My wife does the honours now. We have a Range Rover, but unlike those strange people who use similar vehicles for runabouts, have one because it makes sense. We live up a lane on the outskirts of a rural village, have four dogs and a five-year-old son (he's six on Saturday - can't believe we managed to keep him alive so long). We also have a 1968 Hillman Imp. It's in working order, but never goes anywhere, in keeping with our green principles. It's more a treasured piece of sculpture than anything else!

Please don't laugh... my car is... (oh I'm so embarassed)... a 1972 Dodge Dart that is <font color="green"> this colour green </font>, has vinyl seats and no upholstery on the inside of the doors, so trying to stay warm on a -40 C Canadian winter morning when the interior is made of the same material as the exterior has proven to be quite a challenge. It runs, however, and it doesn't do too badly on the highway. Plus, my friend Tasha says it's the kind of car she could imagine the Beatles making an incognito getaway in... the Beatle-Mobile, she calls it now.

My dad also has a silver Echo; the main differences are that his is four-door and doesn't have personalized plates. We're always making the mistake of trying to drive each other's cars!
If you'd like to see the car (and me), I have pictures of the plates and the car at Showtunes Car (http://www.rationalmagic.com/Bursting/SHOW2NS.html). Please note that I have lost quite a bit of weight since those days.
