I've read on an Italian newspaper that it was taken in Turin in 2001.
Note: Turin is my city and it would be great if George came to visit my city before passing on.
Anyone can confirm this,please?
Thanks!

I think that for love and beauty and tenderness, the promo clip to 'Something' is excellent - the guys and their respective better halves gazing longingly and lovingly into each other's eyes, and there's alot of strolling around in gardens, hand in hand. Beautiful. images/icons/smile.gif

I think it's a beautiful picture, and John looked very nice without his clothes on, so why not? He liked walking around the house naked anyway, so it seems natural to me to see him that way. He was a closet nudist; he just loved walking around nude. That picture is very representational of their relationship, and I really think it is lovely.

No, I'm not. He loved being naked, he was very comfortable that way and would not dress all day sometimes. Watching TV, reading, eating, whatever he did, he was quite comfortable doing it naked, not just the things that everybody gets naked for. Why is that so surprising? It is natural, after all. A lot of people sleep naked; John just took it a couple of steps further. I certainly never objected!

I certainly don't see anything wrong with John liking to be naked -- a lot of men enjoy walking around in the altogether when they're in the privacy of their own home!

The symbolism in that pic is pretty in your face, no? John and Yoko just didn't accept these "roles" we're supposed to play. They did it their way! I think the pic is a pretty cool statement--and eye-candy to boot!

Now take that however you choose, but John was ALWAYS in need of a mother-figure- and that was Yoko to him.
Sure, she was his wife and he loved her. But he also depended on her at times when he obviously felt insecure or in need of guidance. And its hard for people to take that all in, that John Lennon the Great could possibly be so vulnerable, but it is the truth.
To turn things around, Yoko also needed John. He said that it was him who kept her feet on the ground. I have SO many John & Yoko interviews, so I can't place where he said it. But it was said by him.
In any case, their relationship was a very special, beautiful one. As Yoko said, not everything was always perfect. But all the beautiful things DID happen, and that was what made the union so strong. But people try and deny that J&Y could have ever been so wonderful together. I read it all the time.

Hey Susan and Fly,
Thanks so much for your last posts. I didn't want to quote them cause they were long, but you both said some great stuff. I hadn't read where John wanted the picture taken like that, so thanks for saying that. I agree with everything the both of you said, I never could have put it into words like that. And Susan when you said something about John not being led around by the balls it made me think of that cartoon I once saw of Yoko as this huge scary beast leading a little dog-like John around on a leash. Yeah, the press couldn't have been more wrong about J&Y sometimes. Thanks again you guys images/icons/smile.gif

Fly, ARE we the same person? images/icons/wink.gif
I agree with what you said wholeheartedly, and I do remember reading that bit about John insisting that Annie Leibovitz take the picture exactly that way. I think it's pretty funny that so many people try to deny or disavow that John could be a very vulnerable and needy person -- yes, he certainly projected an image of strength, but I believe that he was quite insecure and really needed to be reassured of his own worth very often in his life.
Actually, that's one of the things I really love about John -- he was so complex, so full of different emotions and vulnerabilities and strengths...it makes him a very interesting and even more special person as far as I am concerned.
I am also hurt that some people feel that it is necessary to portray Yoko as a Dragon Lady (not you, Amanda, I know you weren't bashing her, I'm talking about people who are REALLY nasty about it) and make it seem like she led John around by the balls or something...rest assured, John Lennon didn't take crap from ANYONE, and he would never have allowed someone he didn't respect and care for deeply to have any influence over him...and I don't think Yoko's influence was OVER John so much as ON him...together they were a great team.

Aside from the picture of George and Olivia which has been posted, my favourite is a picture of George and Pattie on honeymoon. They are standing together on a beach, and Pattie is biting George's finger. It is very cute! Unfortunatley I don't know of a website or anything which has the picture, so I can't post it.

They were two nice people who were not meant to be together forever, IMO. )<font size="2" face="Tahoma, Arial, sans-serif">I couldn't agree more. I like Cynthia a lot, and believe that John had very strong feelings for her upon the beginning of their union, and that is definitely true. In fact, John thought so highly of "Cyn" that he would send her the money he made in Hamburg- all of it- every week. And when someone would ask him, "why are you sending her the money you need to survive here." He'd say: "ahh...I'll make more..."
So Cynthia MEANT something to John, and he may have loved her- but very differntly from the way he fell for Yoko. With Yoko, it was definite and real and passionate and intellectual, and just a huge combination of EVERYTHING. Its hard for people to understand that, because we all have to feel sympathy for Cynthia and Julian, but that is just the way it was.
And another thing, one of the reasons why its so easy for people to say, "oh John and Cynthia...oh they were the cutest...to bad they broke up..." is because Cynthia is very much a conventionally beautiful woman, and her and John were a conventionally good-looking, "normal" couple. Its easier on the eyes than seeing Yoko and John all over each other, because Yoko isn't the "conventional beauty", although I believe her to be a very beautiful woman. She just isn't what you would typically declare as such, and John and her didn't seem like a "normal" couple in any way. By saying that, I am not calling anyone here a racist or stereotyping, or any of that. I know everyone here is really cool, and the majority are open-minded, but that is basically the kind of reaction people get from John and Yoko. You just don't hear the "oh so cute" comments abounding. And I think that's perfectly fine. They were a fantastic, brilliant, unique, and gorgeous couple anyway. And they influenced SO many people, because the union of two different people sharing almost the same beliefs and ideas, and definitely the same love is so, so wonderful/beautiful in all the good ways imagineable.
That being said, I like Cynthia a lot. She is a talented artist as well, and a very sweet woman who doesn't deserve a bad word said against her. And John would agree. images/icons/smile.gif

In fact, John said himself that if Cynthia hadn't become pregnant, they would have never married. That was not in his life plan. He did not say they would have broken up, though. He actually said they would have "drifted apart"--and they did, while they were yet married, and John expressed sadness at that, for he never wanted to hurt her and had loved her very much, but he said that it was absolutely out of his control. Once Yoko came into the picture, she hit John like the proverbial ton of bricks, and even May, whom John also loved VERY much, could not change the way he felt about Yoko. For John, Yoko was, quite simply, "THE ONE".
He adored her, depended upon her, and shared the same spirit with her. She was his other half, and he was never completely happy unless they were together.

If Cynthia never got pregnant, he never would have married (in his Beatle heyday), period. He was too much of a playboy back then, even while married to Cyn. I think you're right in that Yoko was the one for him, as he had stated so many times. I think at that time during the break-up of the band, he was ready for his "Real Love" to enter his life. To love and to be loved; to complete his life. Does this make sense?

John was a major playboy, and he screwed around on Cynthia quite a bit- though I'm sure he probably never meant to hurt her on purpose. He was just unprepared for the committment that came with being married and being a father. He was like, "wait a minute. This was my dream, man. I wanted all this and now I have to sit at home and be a husband and a daddy? Screw that!"
It sounds very selfish, but all human beings are really. None of the other Beatles were faced with the same committments as John at the time he was, and he was probably completely jealous of their freedom. At the same time, I don't think he was entirely selfish to Cynthia. She has so many wonderful memories of their marriage, and she said it was probably the highest point of her life. So John couldn't have been that bad.
But, yeah, when Yoko came into the picture...it was, like, WHAM!

Maybe it's just that Cynthia was perfect for John at the time in his life when they were together and Yoko was perfect for John at the time in his life when they were together. There are all different kinds of love and we don't always want the same thing when we're young that we do when we're older. Love is just one of those things that should be cherished, not quantified. images/icons/smile.gif
Magill
Mar 19, 2003, 10:51 AM
I don't fully agree, Rell. I think he had the hots for Cyn at one time. When she became pregnant and he consequently married her, he wanted her to look a certain Brigitte Bardot way. The blonder hair, the fishnet stockings, etc. You don't go changing a person's appearance that you "love". I mean, look at Yoko. She's the total opposite of any Bardot lookalike I've ever seen! images/icons/wink.gif

Yeah, I see what you're saying, Magill, but see, maybe that's why she was perfect for him at the time. Maybe he needed somebody who WOULD do what he wanted in that regard...maybe he needed a less assertive woman at that time in his life. It's possible that a woman like Yoko might have intimidated the crap out of him if she would have arrived in his life at an earlier point than she did. I'm certainly not taking away anything from his relationship with Yoko - I do think it was strong and it was right for him at that time - I just don't see why everyone feels the need to compare. He was lucky to have both of them in his life. images/icons/smile.gif

Good point, Magill. You have it exactly. John loved Cyn, but he admitted that at the time he really didn't know what real love even was. He cared deeply for her and loved her as much as he was capable of at that time, but she was just not his destiny. He once said that they never quite "fit" each other mentally. Plus, he was resentful at "having" to get married, but that was the 60s. A man did what he had to do, he took responsibility for his actions. He felt trapped, but he tried to make the best of it, realizing that Cyn was trapped as well. He didn't blame her, and he cared deeply for her. He tried to make himself fall more in love with her, I think, by trying to make her over into the clone of a woman he saw at the time as his "dream girl", the lovely Brigitte Bardot.
Enter Yoko and a lightning bolt hits our hero. He realizes what love really is and is blown away by the intensity of his passion and need for Yoko, who is the opposite of the woman he had thought was so perfect. For the first time in his life, he is confronted with the person who fits him in every way, and he can do nothing but admit that she is his one and only, because there is just no denying it. He doesn't want to hurt Cyn, but he has to go with the woman who completes him. Cyn understands this. She said that as soon as she saw them together, she knew that she had lost him. To her credit, she never badmouths him. She loves him unconditionally and she lets him go gracefully, wanting his happiness above all else. She is hurt, but she can see that a larger force is at work here, and that John really belongs with Yoko. She is a classy lady, and I admire her for that. The same thing goes for May.

After all, they're like night and day. What I'm saying is, had Cyn not have gotten pregnant, he never would have married anyone in those days. He wasn't ready. It always appeared to me he had mixed feelings about Cyn. I'm sure in some way loved her. I mean, she was a dutiful, loving wife and a sweet person. But, I think in some way he resented the fact that she got pregnant. That's why he treated her like caca. But she loved him so much, she just tolerated whatever he doled out for so many years. Ultimately, he needed (and got) exactly what he needed in Yoko. Someone to challenge him. Cyn was just way too passive.
*Actually, I think that's why my marriage didn't work out. My ex was passive as well and I didn't realize until later what a turn-off that was for me.*

So, do you really believe then that if John would have met Yoko in, say, 1962, given what they were both like at that time, that things still would have turned out the way they did? That because she was somehow his "destiny", that timing and where each one of them was in their lives at that time wouldn't have mattered at all?
Oh, and I think everybody comes at something like this with a bit of a bias from their own personal situation. I look at my few significant relationships and I can see that in some way, each of the guys was what I needed and I was what he needed at that particular time, but if I would have met the same guy a few years earlier or later, he wouldn't have interested me at all. And I think if I found the absolute complete love of my life tomorrow, I still wouldn't dismiss the importance of those earlier relationships, because they were part of what made me the person who the love of my life fell for. Am I making ANY sense here?!?! Probably not. images/icons/smile.gif
This is an interesting conversation, even if it has strayed a little from the "cute couple pictures" theme. images/icons/smile.gif

Things happened the way they did because that's the way they were meant to be. It's funny, but John himself explained his whole marriage-divorce-remarriage in his own words almost the same way many of us are trying to.
I think Cyn was great. I have an interview with John in which he says that his marriage to Cyn was NOT unhappy, but it just sustained with nothing to rock the boat or anything. John liked that. He liked someone who was going to move and shake things along with him. He neeeded a partner, and in Yoko he found so much more: his soul mate.
And about John being immature...I entirely agree. I find John to be very immature in many aspects of his life, and very mature in other aspects. Probably just like any other human being. I think, honestly, that he enjoyed being nurtured and taken care of. He was a bit like a baby.
Oh my love

I especially love the pictures that Eppy had taken to go with a cover up story that Mo was Ringo's secretary... the idea didn't work very well because the pictures prove that there is so much more than that going on!!!

I find it really depressing that two people who seem so into each other as Ringo and Maureen can't last the distance. And when in the last pictures I have of them before they divorced, they're still holding hands, and then after the divorce still going out and enjoying each other's company. It's very very sad. <sniffle> <sob!>

Okay, I've been quiet long enough from the who does John love more Cyn or Yoko bit and now it's time for me to bite into it.
I mostly agree with Rell, John loved Cynthia and Yoko at different times in his life and to me, that's a fair way to say it.
John did love Cynthia very much so and there's a quote that John made in 1974: "It was said I never loved Cyn. That's far from the truth. We were young, bigheaded, and got into a physical relationship too soon. Perhaps if we took things slow we would have made it. I know we would have made it."
I would say that Julian is a love child and you know that John loved Cynthia (and Julian) from those famous letters that he wrote to Cynthia. I also have interviews by Pete Best saying that he and John used to go drink together and talk and John would tell him that once the Beatles get off the ground, he's going to marry Cyn and have a family. In other tidbits of interviews have John himself saying around 1964 that he's bound to have more kids with Cynthia one day. So, in my book, John really loved Cynthia and wanted to have more kids with her.
I'm not denying that John didn't love Yoko, I know he did, but I also know that John loved Cynthia. The love may not be the same, then again, Cynthia and Yoko are not the same person.

The love may not be the same, then again, Cynthia and Yoko are not the same person.<font size="2" face="Tahoma, Arial, sans-serif">Amen!! I just wish they had more kids...
