I pulled the best April Fools Day joke yesterday. I pulled the day off my sister's day-by-day calender and she thought it was April Fools Day so she played tricks on everyone and yelled 'April Fool!' Everyone thought she was a freak.

To be honest I totally forgot it was April Fools day until I saw this thread. I've been at work all day and thus have avoided any potential tricks. Happy "fool on the hill" day to all! http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/party.gif

Another board that I write on had a thread started by the webmaster saying "Due to the number of competing boards, I have decided to close this board effective midnight tonight." ALL these guys (it's mostly guys; it's a musician's website) were FREAKING out going "NO, PLEASE DON'T!!!!!" and renting their garments and wringing their hands. I, on the other hand, was cracking up.....with an April Fool's Day birthday, you learn very early on not to trust anything anybody says to you all day!! http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/smile.gif

In Switzerland we just call it "first of April". Great imagination, isn't it?!!!! but we do jokes as well.

If you think about it, the term "April Fools" is funny. I'm gonna start a new one next month called May Idiots.

In sixteenth-century France, the start of the
new year was observed on April first. It was
celebrated in much the same way as it is
today with parties and dancing into the late
hours of the night.

Then in 1562, Pope Gregory introduced a
new calendar for the Christian world, and the
new year fell on January first. There were
some people, however, who hadn't heard or
didn't believe the change in the date, so they
continued to celebrate New Year's Day on
April first.

Others played tricks on them and called them
"April fools." They sent them on a "fool's errand"
or tried to make them believe that something
false was true.

In France today, April first is called "Poisson d'Avril."
French children fool their friends by taping a paper
fish to their friends' backs. When the "young fool"
discovers this trick, the prankster yells "Poisson
d'Avril!"
