Hi all, just wondering if some of you folks out there with web sites might be able to help me.
If I find a photo on the web, what are the rules for using it on my (personal) web site (I will not be doing the web site for profit)? Does anyone know?
This includes photos that have the web site and/or photographer printed across them, as well as those that do not.
Also, what if I have books with photos I would like to scan and use? (these are not just Beatle photos, but certainly some of those, too)
Thanks in advance for any advice you can give.

Usually if you e-mail the webmaster and ask, they'll say yes or no.
Otherwise, if there's no copyright, just right-click, and press Copy.

Usually if you take a photo from another website, unless the webmaster took the picture and/or scanned it themseves(they either don't allow you to take it or require you to ask for their permission first), you don't really have to ask permission to take the picture to use on your on website. But I would suggest acknowledging where you got the picture from. I think they would prefer that.

If you use any photos from books, just add the following text into your disclaimer:
"All pictures/photos used on this website are not my own work and are under the copyright of their respectful owners. They have been used for educational purposes only and are not being used in any way for financial gain."
I've got it on my PiD site.
