View Full Version : Classic Guitars...

I know it must sound silly, but I am no expert, and not having found anything over the net, I wanted to ask if coloured classic guitars existed (I mean, not the usual colour, which is the wood one)... and in case they don't, is it possible to colour or make them be coloured by experts (like you do for the mororcycles helmets...)?
Thanks anyway for reading this message! http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/smile.gif

Hi! I'm no expert either, but yes, you can find classic (and new) electric guitars in lots of different colors. I have noticed that lately (or maybe this has been going on forever, and I didn't notice) that places like Gibson and Fender are reissuing classic style guitars, and they are generally in different colors. Also, you can generally strip old paint or stain off an electric guitar and repaint/stain it - or have someone do it for you.
I am not so sure on acoustic ones. I would imagine that you could find ones that are painted, or that you could do it yourself, but I have no idea how you might prepare the guitar to be painted.
Sorry I can't be more helpful!
You can see beautiful guitars in many colors at the Gibson site www.gibson.com (http://www.gibson.com) -- I own a Gibson, so I am partial to them!
And for guitars in lots of colors and with cool extras, see www.danelectro.com (http://www.danelectro.com)
Good stuff!

Thank you so much, PaulisMine http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/smile.gif
Those sites are cool, when I'll buy an electric, I'll surely count on them!

Yeah, I'm starting to lose hope of finding just what I'm looking for. I may have to just get the model I want & then paint it. (Well, have someone paint it!) Some of the colours they come up with these days are not what I would have! I'm not sure where one would go to get it painted, but I can ask next time I'm in the guitar shop.

I know there are a number of people out there who will do custom paint jobs on guitars....I know a couple tribute band guys who have gotten their guitars custom painted to resemble George's psychedelic guitar. It's pretty expensive to do something that elaborate, but I can ask them where they found the people who did it for them.

I hope that was helpful.
Have you looked at the Danelectro site? They have this pedal you can buy called the "Sitar Swami" - it is supposed to make your guitar sound like a sitar!
Ooooooo I want it!
Are you learning guitar?

FT, that would be nice, I thank you in advance http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/smile.gif (I'll ask here as well, I'll let you know, in case!)
Rell, is that a job they do for Electric Guitars? I was thinking of Classic ones, since I don't know if it's possible to paint the wood without kind of ruining the sound... I don't know tho.
PaulisMine, I saw that Sitar thing... that would be so cool to have! http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/grin.gif
And yes, I am learning it, just started (kind of a month), after many years of piano, I thought I would have gone to a string instrument, and since violino is harder, this year I'll do some guitar! http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/smile.gif
Do you play guitar too? http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/smile.gif

Ah! I think we had a language problem here! I thought when you said "Classic", you meant old or vintage (like "classic cars" or "classic rock"), but you meant "acoustic" (as in non-electric)! Makes more sense now! I don't know either if you can paint an acoustic.
Good luck in your lessons. I'm trying to rediscover my guitar....it's been sitting around collecting dust for about 4 years! http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/smile.gif

Yes, I am learning guitar too! It is a lot harder than it looks, huh?
I am going to keep plugging away at it, though, because one day I am going to be that person that can just pick up a guitar and just rock out!
Feel free to email me if you want to talk guitar -- I'm not too good (YET!) but I think that talking about it helps me stay motivated to practice.
Danelectro has all sorts of groovy pedals and stuff, I had no idea until I started playing all the "extras" you can get for your guitar. Very cool.

Oooops, well, I said Classic ones, since what I am learning is classic guitar.. which is not Acoustic nor Electric, it has less frets than everyone else... at least, that's what my teacher told me http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/smile.gif
And yes, PiM, it's harder than it seems, and it takes practice (as every instrument to be played well)... but it's indeed worthy! http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/smile.gif

As soon as I buy my electic guitar (see I'm gonna start a band, I already have 16 songs, no music though...http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/frown.gif)I'm gonna get a "Sitar Swami."

First off, it doesn't sound
silly. I mean, a good (or interesting) finish
on a guitar has been a bit of a preoccupation
of mine and other folks I know in the music
field, etc. for a long time... Personally,
I like the unusual finishes that the company
Rickenbacker makes--(www.Rickenbacker.com)
like their beautiful "Sunburst" guitar or
bass; and the nice thing about getting a
Fender guitar is not only their finishes
also, but if you feel like being daring and
refinishing or painting the body yourself,
you can even try that-- in fact, I've been
in the midst of paintng my Fender Precision
"gloss white" for a few days now... --JC

Thank you JCB... someday (I think it's not the best guitar for starters, eheh) I'll buy one, and then I'll have it painted! http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/smile.gif
And great, a white one seems so good! http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/smile.gif
