Hello everyone, I know I have not been posting here for very long, but I'm asking for all of your support as I quit smoking!! It has been about 10 hours, and I am armed with snacks and nicotine patches and so on, but one can never get enough support. I figure if I tell everyone, that will help too. If you are a former smoker, please let me know any tips you might have.
Thanks in advance!

I did smoke, but I stopped during a week of heavy flue. After that I just did not start again and only once I tried it again but the taste of smoke in my mouth made me feel pretty sick.

So, get flue.

Good luck.

I don't smoke, and I don't like that people do it, so it's great that you're quitting smoke, cos you're gonna be the most beneficiary (I know it sounds like a cliche but it's true anyway) http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/smile.gif

Best of luck! Don't have any tried and true tips (I'm not a smoker) but try to keep your hands busy. Take up a craft, do crossword puzzles, etc. And keep posting!

Good luck quitting, PaulisMine! I'm not a smoker, though my dad used to smoke and quit through sheer willpower. Try to think of the good things about quitting, such as improving your health and appearance and saving your money. Maybe you could set aside your cigarette money for a special present to yourself. And as Lynner suggested, keep your hands busy; posting frequently should help. http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/wink.gif

My mom used to smoke. She started saving the $ she would have spent each week for cigarettes. After a year, she spent it on a present for herself.

Don't forget to drink plenty of water to help cleanse the toxins out of your system.

Good luck in your efforts! It's definitely worth it - you'll feel better, you'll smell better, food will taste better and you'll have more money! These are all good things!! I too agree with Lynner - keep your hands busy. That's also a great tip for dieters, by the way! http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/smile.gif

Best of luck in trying to quit smoking. I've never smoked but I've heard a lot of stories on how it's very difficult to quit. My mom used to smoke and she quit(I asked her to)cold turkey. I guess the only advice I could give you is to think about the benefits of quiting. Saving your health and your life.

Yes... I agree with all that was said above... the best is trying to do things that keep your mind busy... like, listening to music, or going out for a walk (in the US, every place is forbidden to smoke eheh http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/smile.gif)

And when, if you need us, we'll help you! http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/smile.gif

Hi everyone! Just checking in! It has now been over 24 hours, I'm winning!
So now I have a bunch of restless energy. I took a couple of days off work so as not to terrorize everyone there, so I'm going to go to the movies today - can't smoke in there.
I really appreciate everyone's comments. They really mean a lot to me.

Hey folks, checking in.
Thanks for all the great words of support. Now entering day 3 -- supposed to be the hardest day, so says other non smokers. So, we'll see! I don't see how it could be harder than the last 2 days.
I'm not going to start again mainly because I don't want to have to quit again!
Thanks again for all of your support!!

Thanks everyone for all your support, good wishes and so on that you have sent out to me!! It really helps to have people "counting" on me, so I don't start again -- I don't want to let anyone down.
So, it is now day SEVEN people. That is pretty darn good!! So, I think in about 20 more days, I'll start to feel more human.
Woo!

Go, PaulisMine! Keep it up, girl! I want to quit smoking so badly that I've tried everything in the books. Nothing's worked so far for me, but hopefully I'll find something one of these days.

Wow, everyone, thanks so much for all of your kind words and support! They mean so much to me!!
I am doing okay, I still want to smoke, and I figure I have a few more weeks until that starts to go away. I am still using the patch, so technically I am still addicted to nicotine, but at least I have conquered the hardest part (for me) which is the activity of smoking itself.
I'll let everyone know how I am doing for the next few weeks.
And Sleepy -- I have quit and started more times than I can count, I know that you'll do it when the time is right for you. On average, most smokers have to try to quit SEVEN times to actually have it "stick" so don't get discouraged!! Feel free to write me if you'd like, I can talk to you about it.

And again, thanks everyone for your kind words and your concern.
I'm doing pretty darn good! http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/teeth1.gif
