Hello, everybody!

I am home from school today because I just got my wisdom teeth removed. It is awful! I can't speak, and my mouth is stuffed with gause. Instead of full anestesia, I opted for nitrous oxide, better known as 'laughing gas.' Unfortuneatly, the doeses of both that and the novicaine were inadequate, and I was fully aware of what was going on and was also able to feel much of the procedure. It builds character, I guess! Has anyone else ever had their wisdom teeth removed? What have been your experiences?

I'd like to thank you on behalf of the group, and hope we pass the audition.

A horrible week with a potato inside my mouth, and a terrible quote of pain, and a lot of anesthesics and stuff.. http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/rolleyes.gif

Good luck Penny.

I had three of mine pulled at once and it really wasn't too bad. After a day or two, hopefully you'll feel much better. In the meantime, soup and jello.....

I remember when I had my wisdom teeth pulled (3 were impacted). I had all four of them pulled the week before my first Beatlefest back in 1996. I had a week agony, but I was okay enough to go to Beatlefest. My mouth still hurt then, but not as much as it did the week before. I'm glad I got all four of them pulled, I won't have to go through that again! I was put to sleep. When I woke up, I didn't know what was going on. My face blew up and my mom said I looked like a chipmunk. LOL! http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/smile.gif Glad those days are over...

Hmm... Memories...

Actually - my experience was a good one. Although all four of my teeth were impacted - all I remember about the procedure was the initial IV, blinking twice, and waking up in a different room with ice on my jaws and my mouth full of gauze.

My best friend (who happened to be a guy) stayed with me through the whole thing, brought me home, delivered flowers, ice-cream, and a movie to my house. Two days later we went to Disneyland, and we dated for three and a half years. http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/wink3.gif

So - I had a good experience, but I do feel your pain - Penny! Just keep ice on your jaws, DON'T try to use straws, and keep resting!

I had all four wisdoms removed Christmas break my freshman year at college. It was done mainly to make sure they didn't cause problems with the rest of my teeth later, since I'd had braces. They knocked me out for the operation; as soon as I woke up and staggered over to the recovery area, I tried to read. I couldn't eat anything solid for a while, but I was able to work. The other thing I remember about the experience was having to gargle with a solution that tasted like bleach--yuck! But everything healed properly, so now I have nice, healthy http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/teeth1.gif Look Mom, no cavities!

I only vividly remember two being removed; all four of mine were removed, but the lower two were the biggies; they were impacted, and had to be removed because I was getting braces and they thought there'd be problems later on. (Mind you, I was 30 years old at the time, too!) I don't remember much other than being put out and then waking up with my mouth full of gauze...my friend Janet drove me home and cooked me some chicken broth...I took the next day off from work because I had a terrible headache as a result of the dentist pounding around inside my head for an hour! Oh, and I had to take these really nauseating painkillers that gave me an upset stomach! And they didn't work, either!

I've never had my wisdom teeth out, luckily. I've also never had stitches, never broken a bone, never had a cavity, and never been stung by a bee. So I just KNOW they'll all happen at once! http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/afraid1.gif

I had all four done...and they were impacted, meaning that the teeth were attached to the bone. I'll be okay, but my mouth hurts a lot. :-(

Yeah, two of my three were impacted too. (The one that wasn't hardly hurt at all!) I'm sorry you're in pain and I hope it goes away soon! http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/smile.gif

I remember having all four wisdom teeth pulled in one day, back in 1982. I was given a pill to take 30 minutes before my appointment that morning. Needless to say, I was feeling quite lightheaded by the time my mom had drove me to the dentist. When I was seated in the chair, the assistant prepped me with full anestesic. I was out like a light real quick.
When I awoke there was a little discomfort, but nothing unbearable. That night I went to the bowling alley but my friends would not allow me to bowl that night. The next morning, Friday, I called work to tell them I was fine but they insisted I stay home and come back Monday.
Friday night my friends tried to make me sit out of bowling again, but I won out and bowled pretty decent. Some say that I have a very high threshold for pain, maybe so. But for anyone getting their wisdom teeth removed, there's absolutly nothing to fear.

Hope you're feeling better, Penny! I've had a few of my wisdom teeth pulled. The last one was a few years ago. It need to be done, because the tooth below it wasn't there and the upper tooth kept GROWING! I was given a local and did okay until the nurse decided to show my the tooth. I turned white as a sheet and they had to give me some oxygen because they thought I was going to pass out on them! It was weird. I healed quickly, tho', so the overall experience wasn't too bad!

Oh no, not another 'wisdom teeth' topic! http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/afraid1.gif Hope things get better for you, Penny! I need to have all 4 of mine out sometime within the next month, at least I'm looking to get them out (all at once) before I head to the States. Can't wait! (Till I go to the States, NOT till I have my wisdom teeth pulled out!)
