Ok, I'm going to start another topic for complaining and moaning about the little annoying things in life, since my last topic vanished some time ago. So what's annoying YOU today? http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/smile.gif

My annoyance of the day is the following: We can set our own hours at my office, within reason. I work 7:00 - 4:30. I put in more hours than just about anybody and often work late. Yesterday I was leaving at 4:45 and some bozo on a 9 - 6 schedule has the NERVE to say "Oh! Leaving early?" http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/chainsaw.gif

Rell' - Wouldn't it be great if you saw that person come in at 8:55 and say, "oh. Overslept?"

My minor irritant: People who can't get their acts together and keep you waitng! Bet you all know someone like this. http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/smile.gif

I hate travel agencies who advertise with such things as "the lowest airfares guaranteed!" and "we will beat ANY genuine price!" - then when I find the exact same price they offered me for $500 cheaper elsewhere, they say "Oh, we can give discounts normally, just not for STUDENTS".

Well, screw you! And your false advertising too.

How about the one checker at the grocery store who feels the need to pick up each of my items and make some comment about it while leisurely checking me through...."Oh, I haven't read this magazine...is it good?"..."This is pretty expensive, isn't it?"..."Wow, I should get some bananas before I leave - these look nice!", etc. etc. etc. Arrrrrrgggggghhhhh....

I'm gonna have a right complain at my local bus service. It's crap to put it nicely, and today was a fine example at how rubbish they are.

The journey is just 15 miles, which shouldn't take too long, but here's the story.

I got the the bus stop at 4pm. The bus service states that there would be a bus every 10 minutes, and the next bus would be at 4pm. Hmm, not a long wait.

4.15pm, horray, a bus is in sight, but wait. It's packed and is not going to stop.

4.30pm, Another bus, equally packed, but it stops. I'm forced to squash in and enture a 20 minute journey to the next bus stop.

4.55pm, Finally, get the chance to sit down.

5.15pm, finally get to my destination.

Just on this... has anyone got those new check-out things where you just go and ring yourself up? You just swipe a scanner over your goods and feed money into the thingy machine they have there? Sara was telling me about it and that she used it yesterday and how quick & easy it was, etc. I can't say I've seen any down here (I guess the same principle applies at the library though where you can self-scan your own books) but it seemed like it would be pretty easy for people to just scan half of their groceries and leave with the other half unpaid!

I hate cars that have windows that don't go up because your car sucks so you're stuck driving to work ON THE HIGHWAY at 70 MILES AN HOUR with the THIRTY DEGREE WIND blowing RIGHT IN YOUR FACE because your stupid car is the biggest piece of crap to ever be marketed but you can't really complain because you got the car for free from your older brother so really the only thing you can do is pretend you don't notice that your entire body is numb when you get to work in the morning and just sort of wait for your limbs to defrost because your stupid car's windows won't go down but once again you can't complain because you DID get that car for free......

This falls under major king sized irritant.

I abhor, detest, hate and JUST CAN'T STAND it when folks make loud exhalation noises to indicate they are thinking. Look, people breathe and think at the same time or they'd be dead, right? So really, there is just NO NEED TO MAKE THE LOUD EXHALATION NOISES e.g. chute, chute, and the like to indicate deep thought is taking place. This is ESPECIALLY IRRITATING when done by somebody on the telephone! AAAAGGGGHHHHH!

Finger tapping falls into the same category. That one really annoys me.

I can't stand it when people think they don't have to follow the same rules of society as the rest of us because they're prettier, blonder, richer, thinner, or drive a cooler car. That they think these qualities ENTITLE them to cut in front of me in line, to run me over with their SUV when I have the right of way in the crosswalk (this was the particular one that happened to me this morning) or to get various special priveledges. You obviously haven't driven in Massachusetts, particularly in the Boston area! I used to have a friend in New Hampshire who lived in the resort area of the White Mountains, and in her neck of the woods they referred to drivers from Boston as "Massholes!" They are some of the WORST drivers I've ever encountered...and this from a New York driver who drives a lot in New Jersey!

HMVNipper is right. Boston drivers are notorious for their unsafe, reckless driving. They're even worse than New York Cabbies!

If I was ever injured in the Big Apple, don't call the police or an ambulance. Call a cab! New York Cabbies drive like the proverbial bat out of a cave (sanitized version). If anybody in NYC can get to you quickly, it's a cab! If you go to Manhattan, keep a list of cab company numbers on your person for just such an emergency.

I am a New Yorker who has driven in both places and IMHO, Mexico City, Manhattan and Boston are the meccas for atrocious drivers!

Back to bete noires: That loud exaggerated exhalation bit to indicate deep thought really riles me. At the risk of sounding a tad risque, it is sorta like oral flatulence. Unpleasant and unnecessary.

On my way to the Detroit airport in December, I have a stop at O'Hare airport in Chicago. The Sears Tower is in Chicago, right? I'm kind of paranoid about flying. That's my minor irritant for today. I used to LOVE flying and now I'd rather not. Fear won't ever stop me from seeing Scotty, but still.

Yeah, I know exactly how you feel. I stop at O'Hare in Dec too, so maybe I'll see you there. If you think about it though, the chances of something going wrong and the plane crashing were really no different before to what they are now of the plane being hijacked or something. Obviously it's going to be in the back of your mind no matter what, especially now, which sucks quite a bit. But just think how much you and everyone else on board will look forward to thumping the crap out of anyone who tries to pull off such a stunt again.

Yeah, I was actually thinking about that- I remember hearing on the news a couple days ago about a guy that tried to get into the cockpit but the passengers all beat him down. That makes me feel a bit better to be honest. But it really makes me sad that I have to fear flying now when I used to really enjoy it. I mean, I'll still enjoy it but like you said, there will always be that thought at the back of my mind the entire trip of those passengers that were just living their normal lives and then on September 11th, they all boarded separate planes and before they knew it, they weren't leading any lives at all. http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/frown.gif

Exactly, it's just crazy that it has now come to this. Everyone keeps asking me if I'm afraid to fly (even the travel agent) and I tell them I'm not, but of course the thought of something going wrong is always going to be in the back of my (and everyone's) mind. I haven't even told my parents I'm going yet - they will probably go ballistic when I do. I thought it best to keep it from them for a little while so as not to worry them too much too soon. What do your parents think about you flying now? We must get to our loved ones no matter what - whether we have to beat up some terrorists in the process or not! A threat or two is certainly not gonna stop me.

My mom doesn't think anything of flying. She has a fear of it herself (always has had a fear of it) but she feels planes are generally pretty safe. Plus her philosophy is "When it's your time to go, it's your time to go." Thanks mom, that soothes my mind. http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/wink.gif

Anyway, that's right, we HAVE to get to our loved ones. I'm way too excited to go to Canada in December to be afraid to fly. Hell, I barely managed to get to my gate in about that time last year! How damn big IS that airport? It's like they have gate numbers from A-Zillion, then start over again from A1-Z3462 and I was SPRINTING to get there in time, just managed to make it as the last few people were boarding and they closed the gate!

And then, when I landed there on my return, I had even LESS time to get to the right gate (they certainly didn't give me much time to hang about) and luckily I was not far from it when I got there. So I thought, right, I'll just take it nice and easy this time round and go find myself a drink and a bite to eat, go to the toilet, do whatever needs doing, no rush here whatsoever... I walk out singin 'I feel fine' with a smug look on my face, gate is in sight, everything's great, walk up to the gate, and there's a note pinned up there that reads "Note to passengers - boarding for Flight AA32 from Chicago to LA has been moved from gate -A12000 to X3billion" and I just thought oh SHIT and I would have beaten damn Carl Lewis to that bloody gate I was goin so fast, weaving in and out of people trying not to hit them, and luckily they were running a little late cause it took me a good 10 mins of sprinting just to get there. Damn O'Hare airport! I'm sure it'll be a similar experience this time too as the 37 mins I have counts from when one plane lands and the other takes off, and does NOT include the 20-30 mins you have to wait on the damn runway after landing and the plane pulls up to where you're supposed to get out. So yay, I'll have about 7 mins really, can't wait! (If you didn't pick it, that's MY minor irritant for the day).

And thank you for making me NOT want to fly to O'Hare.http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/tongue.gif

Last time I flew to Michigan I had a connecting flight in the Minneapolis, St. Paul airport. Now THERE is one nice airport! I really liked it. Easy to follow the signs, not too small but not too huge.

For O'Hare I have an hour and a half but the way Boris makes it sound, I'll be sprinting for 45 minutes of that! I really wouldn't be surprised if it DID go to Gate ZZZZ. Oh well, as long as I MAKE it to the airport as opposed to crashing into the Sears Tower, I'm happy! http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/grin.gif

Ouch. I wake up at 6:45 everyday but don't actually GET up until 7:20 (it's a long story). And it seriously does take until about 10AM for me to fully wake up and be alert. I'm the type that can stay up until 3AM everynight and hardly be tired but even if I went to bed everynight at 9, I could NEVER get up and be wide awake before 10.

when I'm in line at the drive thru for the bank, there's an entrance that cuts thru the line and has a big sign that says no right turn so people have to get in the back of the line and not turn into the teller's window. It is irritating when they make a right turn and cut when I've been sitting there patiently waiting my turn.

When your faithful truck is working beautifully all morning and suddenly it decides to be stupid by dying every time you slow down to turn a corner and you have to flip on your hazards, put it in park, re-start it and hold up busy intersections - but wait - to make matters worse - your ex-boyfriend's mother (who never liked you anyway and thought you were taking her precious son from her) sees you at one of the intersections and laughs and points and continues to drive on...

phew. sorry - i guess i just had to get that off of my chest. thanks for letting me vent. http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/wink3.gif

My major bete noire is flaring up again. I hate like hell when people make loud exhalation noises to call attention to the fact that they are thinking of an answer. I think that is like oral flatulence and totally unnecessary.

Those damn sounds are needless because in order to think and breathe simultaneously, you have to be alive! There is no need for it http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/thumbsdown.gif http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/chainsaw.gif and it is damned irritating! Try having to put up with that on the telephone! http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/chainsaw.gif

I'm going to add something that REALLY irritated me today. The subject is of course work!!

Before I start this I gotta tell you all that there are 4 tills where I work (In a supermarket). Till 4 is the one everyone hates to work on as once you're put on there you can't go anywhere until the manager says so. I've been put on it every shift since February

My shift for today started at 12pm, so I got there at 11.30 to prepare myself mentally. 10 minutes before I was due to start I decided to go out and start. There was no sign of the other person called Mark who was meant to start at the same time as me.

I was put on till 4.

five minutes after 12, Mark was put on his till.

2.30, and Mark was sent on his 1/2 hour break. Just after I called the manager who was on why he sent him off after I started before him. I was told to, (I'm not sure whether this was half-jokingly or not, but it certainly shook me) and I quote 'Shut up, you're always moaning.'

Mark comes back from his break at 3 and immediately is sent out to do the trollies.

4pm now and no break yet for me. Mark finishes off the trollies and promply is put on till 3 behind me as the person that was there was going home. 5 minutes later the other person goes home. No sign of the manager to take me off the till.

It wasn't until 4.35 until I was sent for my break.

20 minutes into it, the manager walks in and says I have to go back on the till. I obviously said no, and he said that if I didn't then everyone would be late going home. I said it was his fault for making me wait until half past four until my break. At that point he walked out saying 'If you don't like working here, then quit.'

Come back out just after 5, and am promply put back on till 4 while the other two, (the manager and Mark) start cleaning the produce on the aisles, giving Mark an unfair advantage in his share of the after-close chores. It takes them an hour to go though 3 1/2 of the 5 aisles.

The store closes, and the manager goes into the office, leaving Mark to clean up on his own, and me to clean up all 4 tills on my own. Mark takes 2 hours to clean up the last 1 1/2 remaining aisles. I finish my job and move onto the other, When I had about 10 minutes work to finish off, Mark finishes all his jobs.

And leaves.

Leaving me to do something he could have taken 2 minutes to help me with.

Is it any doubt why I'm VERY seriously considering quitting tomorrow?!?

Today's annoyance....somebody at work desperately wants me to finish a project for him today. I left him a message at 10:30 this morning saying I was stuck on something and to please stop by and answer a few questions. Nothing. Left him another message at 2:00 this afternoon. Nothing. It's now almost 4:00. I'm leaving. I'm NOT finishing the project. If he can't be bothered to get back to me for 5 1/2 hours, I am NOT going to stay late to get it done!!

The (well-intending) people at my work believe it their purpose in life to introduce me to their single sons, grandsons, nephews, etc. The problem is that many of them are 34 and older. There is nothing wrong with 34+ year old men - but I'm barely 21! When I walked in the office I was introduced to one of our secretary's 34 year old nephew and his eleven year old daughter... I'm nearer her age than his... http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/frown.gif

On an unrelated subject....I love to have Thanksgiving at home alone. I'm a very hyper and busy person and rarely spend an entire day at home by myself. However, on Thanksgiving, I like to spend the whole day at home with some good movies and books, make a fantastic dinner, drink a nice bottle of wine, maybe chat on the phone with a few friends and RELAX. (Side note: I don't like most traditional Thanksgiving food, so I hate to go to friends/family and refuse to eat anything!) My pet peeve is when I tell people my plans for the day, they say "Oh you POOR THING to be alone on the holiday!" No, it's not that I'm so pathetic that I can't find anybody to be with - it's MY CHOICE!!!! Nobody seems to understand this!

Now for my pet peeve, I really despise people who are very loud, and will never SHUT UP!!! At my job, there's a guy, who goes by the name of Red (because of his hair), who's a real loudmouth, and won't SHUT UP!! I can't even go five minutes at work, without hearing his voice. Everytime I hear him, I just want to say "Shut Up, and sit down!!". People who have that trait really get on my nerves, and I feel like saying, "Go play on the freeway or something!!" ARRRRRGGGGHHH!! I guess people like had parents, who never told them to "SHUT UP!!" 50,000 times. Anyway, that's my irritant in a nutshell.

Ok, this is a very very minor irritant, but it gets on my nerves every time it happens...I go see a Beatles tribute band on a fairly regular basis. I think they're very good (and I'm picky about such things) and some of the guys I consider my buddies. Every so often when I'm seeing them, I hear some clueless person say something to the effect of "They're even better than the REAL Beatles!" WHAT?? Um...they're very talented guys who work very hard to recreate the Beatles sound, but "better than the originals"? Not hardly. That doesn't even make SENSE!!! Ok, I'm done.

Boy, I used to hate that...until New York State instituted a "NO CALL" law...you can get your phone number on a list that telemarketers must not call, and if they call you they get ever-escalating fines. It took effect in April, and we haven't had ANY telemarketing calls since.

Something tells me you oughta lobby for a similar law in Illinois, Rell!

A seasonal one -- I've already started hearing this one this year.

I CANNOT STAND IT when people call the "Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade" the "MACY'S DAY PARADE!" Sorry, it's THANKSGIVING DAY, not Macy's Day! Macy's has been sponsoring the parade for 75 years, and THEY are very careful to say "Macy's THANKSGIVING DAY parade," but I've even heard television commentators say "Macy's Day!"

I went to three club shows over the weekend to see bands I like and now (two days later) I still can't stop coughing from all the cigarette smoke!! definitely just a minor irritant...

it is a little bit of a bummer that we don't really have regular seasons (i'm sure there are other so cal linkers who can relate)... i got some pictures from my baby sister (she just finished boot camp in missouri) and she sent some incredible pictures of the leaves turning red, orange, and gold - the trees look like they are ablaze with color! it looks absolutely beautiful. i'm always at home during the fall - and have never seen the trees changing in person. don't get me wrong - there is a tree here or there around our city that turns pretty colors and loses its leaves - but they are surrounded by other green - or in many cases - palm trees... *sigh* just not the same...

That was after I chopped wood, fed the livestock, and cleaned my room! When I got home from school,it took several hours to do my homework and finish the rest of the chores!

Good story,huh?.......not so true....
I got a ride or took the bus to school. there were no hills. There was no snow. We ordered wood and it was delivered. There were no animals except my sister and I. My room was easy to clean, and our mom did most of the house cleaning. The above story is the one my Dad wanted us to beleive!!!

Now, if there's a mass of people milling around, I can understand this, but if you're in a well-defined LINE and obviously YOU are the next one to be helped, why can't they say "May I help YOU" instead of "someone"? When people say/write things that are their opinions, but express them as if they are "The Truth". That is SO arrogant!

I was reading some Paul-bashing posts on another Beatles-related website and it just burned me to no end that this dude was saying that "Driving Rain" was a piece of *&#% and Paul was no doubt going to embarass himself at the Super Bowl and blah-blah-blah a bunch of other blather. His last sentence was "It kills me to bash McCartney, but sometimes the truth hurts." First of all, it's not killing you at all, buddy. If it did, you wouldn't do it. And second of all, what makes YOUR OPINION "The Truth"???

I wanted to respond to this guy on that board, but he'd already referred to me as a "zealot" for saying I actually kind of liked "Freedom", so I figured it'd be better to rant at you guys! http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/smile.gif

I'm with you, Rell, I quit a couple of other Beatle lists because of bashing, it gets on my nerves! I was taken to task on a Paul list for defending Yoko, and taken to task on a John list for defending Paul, and I just decided to get outta there -- and I will never understand all the animosity that some people insist on perpetuating between John fans and Paul fans. That's why I like it here at Beatlelinks -- everyone is friendly and we never fault each other for having opinions!

My irritant for the day are people who can't follow instructions even if you point them in the right direction and practically present them in neon lights! As you probably know, because I posted something about it here, I'm holding a fiction contest at my website. And while I've received a bunch of submissions that follow the instructions that are CLEARLY STATED in my guidelines (thanks, Harb, yours was perfectlyt done!), I've received MORE that make it painfully obvious that the people not only didn't READ the contest guidelines and rules, they don't care even when I take the time to tell them to go back and take a look and even provide the URL! And these aren't children, either -- I received a submission from a woman in her 20s who not only sent me something that's already appearing on her own website (no-no number one, in BIG RED LETTERS on my guidelines page), it's unfinished (no-no number two, also in BIG RED LETTERS)! ARGH! Drives me crazy, how much clearer do I have to make it for people?!? If they fancy themselves writers, then WHY THE HECK CAN'T THEY FOLLOW WRITTEN INSTRUCTIONS!!??!!??

Okay, that's my gripe for the day...

Chris, I agree with you wholeheartedly, but you must also understand that some people who have handicapped stickers or tags have disabilities that are not immediately visible. My father has a very bad knee and has good days and bad. He has a handicapped tag and can park in handicapped parking spaces, but sometimes, if he's having one of his "good" days, it appears almost as if he's not disabled at all. Ditto a girlfriend of mine who has had a complete knee replacement -- Linda has her good days and her bad ones, and qualifies for the handicapped tag, but on a good day it is not immediately obvious...and if I or other non-handicapped people happen to be riding along with the person whose tag it is, WE don't have disabilities and yet we're getting out of the same car in the handicapped spot.

I'm absoultely on your side with this -- I cannot stand when people who are not disabled park in handicapped spots (which is illegal anyway, at least in most states), but you also cannot be so quick to judge a situation when some disabilities are not immediately obvious. If a person has a handicapped tag on the car, chances are SOMEONE in the family has a disability that allowed them to qualify for it. It's the people who do not have the tags and use the parking spots anyway that should be taken to task.

Sorry, I just had to say something...

I couldn't agree more! (Well, I COULD, but then it would sound like I was sucking up or something! Ha!)

My annoyance for the day is people who think they're above you, particularly when they're NOT! I'm not a particularly ambitious type at work, so although I have a good job and some responsibility and authority, I'm not a mover and a shaker. This is not because I'm not capable of doing more, it's merely because I prize my social life and don't want my entire existence to revolve around the office. Because of this, we have a few young folks around here who deem that I am not important enough to take direction from, despite the fact that I AM a level above them in the organization and I DO have the authority to give them projects to do.

Well I saw both people get out of their cars quite easily and walk right up into the resturant with no problem at all. That was my complaint .I understand some people need those stickers. My problem is with people who abuse that right. Then if someone in that family needs that sticker that's fine.If their not in the car at the time then whoever is driving it shouldn't take up that spot .That's my complaint.

When you're short (like me!) and you've been standing in the front at a show or concert all night and some humongously tall Amazon woman (or a tall guy) decides they need to push you out of the way so THEY can stand in front, even though they tower over you by a foot or more.

First of all, it's just rude to push anyone out of the way, and second of all, they can see PERFECTLY WELL from behind me, but all I can see from behind them is the middle of their back! Grrrrrrr.....

This woman who pushed me out of the way on Saturday night had to be at least 6 feet tall. When I told her "Hey, we've been standing here all night", her excuse for bodily shoving me around was "But I NEED to be near the BAND!" Oh please. This is not some goofy teenybopper, this is a 40+ year old woman who has probably seen the band 100+ times. Chill out and quit pushing me around!!

This brings up another irritant. I'm sort of pals with this local band I see a lot. When I want to talk to one of the guys, I wait until whoever is talking to them finishes, then I go up and start my conversation. Invariably, within one or two sentences, some bozo comes up and just blithely interrupts us and ruins my conversation. NOBODY is considerate anymore!

I hate when noone will give up their seat on a packed train for heavily pregnant women.

I had to commute into London every day whilst I was pregnant, it was an overground train to Waterloo and then the Underground to the City and hardly anyone ever offered their seat when it was packed. The only ones that did were the lease expected ones, all the posh city slickers in their suits didn't give a damn.

Once while I was pregnant I gave up my seat to someone more pregnant than me!

Quick! Stuff that hole (and any others you find) with tightly crumpled up aluminum foil or with steel wool. Wedge it in tightly, and make it nice and thick. A mouse needs only a hole about 1/4 inch square to get in through, and a rat only needs a 1/2 inch square hole.

Being escorted to school by the state trooper who has his sirens on. See, my dad doesn't understand the whole concept behind looking at the gas gauge before he passes a gas station, especially when it's the last one that you'd pass one the journey to school where he was taking me. So 1/2 way there, about 10 miles from school, the Jeep runs out of fuel and refuses to go any farther. We sit on the side of the road for 15 minutes while dad calls everyone he knows who might be able to take us to a gas station. Then this state trooper pulls up and gives dad 3 tickets, one for being parked in a no parking zone, one for not having the right papers and one for not having up to date license plates (Dad's already running on a red license). the trooper proceeds to push us the 10 miles to school where of course the story of my dad running into the field trip bus last year came up. Ughh...
