Did anyone watch this show? It was on most available channels last night including HBO.
I tried calling in to donate but could not get through. It was in NY, LA, and London.
Anyway, I thought Bruce was great, and Billy Joel, Mariah Carey, Celion Deon (and I don't listen to the last two's music)and Neil Young played piano and sang Imagine. Too bad none of the Beatles were there, although I did hear that Paul is going to do a benefit concert himself.

I wish I could have seen it. I didn't have any blank tapes to record it and had to go bowling last night. What else happened during the show?

I watched the entire thing. I thought it was really great. My favs were The Dixie Chicks, Fred Durst (Limp Bizkit) & Johnny Rzeznik (Goo Goo Dolls) ~ they sang "Wish You Were Here" by Pink Floyd, and Neil Young, when he performed "Imagine".

It was pretty good... they actually had it on 3 different channels here, 2 simultaneously and another delayed one later on in the day, so I was able to see all the performances after all. Neil Young did a fine job with 'Imagine'. http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/smile.gif

The song that Bruce sang about a city to rise up was originally written about Asbury Park, a seashore town that Bruce put on the map by playing and hanging out in the clubs before he made the big time. He still lives in the area and turns up at times. The valuable shore property has deteriorated in the past 20 years (Bruce, has it been that long?) and there have been numerous attempts by businesses to build it back up.
It eerily fits New York now and was an excellent choice to start the show.

I tuned in late but saw Billy Joel then I had to go out for a while but got back in time to catch Paul Simon to the end. Sadly I missed Neil Young. I saw enough to see it had been a very appropriate for the occasion and enjoyable show. It had all been put together very quickly too so top marks to someone.

The song I liked the most was the one that Sting sang. Although I don't know the name, it is very emotional... especially that verse that says "how fragile we are". It was a beautiful show. http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/smile.gif

The song was actually called "Fragile", I think he dedicated it to a friend that was yet to be found after the attack.
I thought it was funny when Paul Simon did "Bridge Over Troubled Water" since that was one of those songs on that 'banned' list. http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/tongue.gif

I watched it! I found it quite touching.
Im luckly that I didn't have any one I
Know involved in the attack. People
in England have been rather upset by what
happened. My local radio station set
up a cd of hope, that is being flown
over soon. And I rang up and requested
for them to play John's imagine for all you
guys in America, just so that I could let
you all know that myself and the rest
of England are thinking of you all.
I just hope that the war dosen't go on
for to long, as I don't like war or volience
because its always the inocent who get
hurt.
I just hope that all you guys in America
can heal and rebuild your lives.
England will always be with you.
With Love From Me To You

I didn't watch that part... In fact, I would have never expected him singing that song, because Art Garfunkel was the leading voice on that song. Anyway, the 'banned' songs list doesn't seem to be working well, does it. http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/tongue.gif

The recording artists who appeared last Friday night on a telethon to raise funds for victims of the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11 have reportedly waived royalty fees and agreed to allow the release of a CD to raise even more money. The telethon raised more than $150 million. Organizers said the money will be distributed through the United Way with no administrative costs deducted. The CD is expected in stores in a few weeks. Not only did the artists waive their customary royalties, but their record companies have also agreed to foot the bill for the cost of manufacturing and distributing the CD. U2, Sting, Bruce Springsteen, Stevie Wonder, Paul Simon, Neil Young, Celine Dion, Dave Matthews, Willie Nelson and more than a dozen other artists took part in the telethon, which was simulcast on all four major TV networks, most cable TV outlets and more than 8,000 radio stations and Internet Web sites. Pledges are still being accepted at:
tributetoheroes.org.

Classic rockers Styx, REO Speedwagon, Bad Company, Journey, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Kansas, Eddie Money, Survivor, John Waite, Edgar Winter and Grand Funk Railroad's Mark Farner are helping the victims of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks with two benefit concerts next month. The "Volunteers For America" shows are scheduled for Oct. 20 at the HiFiBuys Lakewood Amphitheatre in Atlanta and Oct. 21 at the Smirnoff Music Center in Dallas. "I just couldn't stand by without doing something to help all of the people whose lives have been destroyed by the terrible tragedies of Sept. 11," said organizer and Styx lead singer Tommy Shaw. "I just starting calling up all of my friends to see what we could do. The response has been amazing and we expect to add many more artists to the line up." The concerts will also feature an "All Star" band comprised of Liberty Devitto from Billy's Joel's band on drums, Derek St. Holmes from Ted Nugent's band on guitar, 38 Special's Jeff Carlisi, and The Producers' Kyle Henderson on bass, among others. Proceeds will benefit The American Red Cross, New York Firefighters & Police and victim's families of the Sept. 11 tragedy. The Oct.20 show in Atlanta will include Lynyrd Skynyrd, Styx, Journey, REO Speedwagon, Bad Company, John Waite, Mark Farner and Edgar Winter. The lineup for Oct. 21 Dallas show will include Journey, Styx, REO Speedwagon, Bad Company, Kansas, Survivor, Eddie Money, John Waite, Edgar Winter and Mark Farner.
