I just wanted to know how everyone's doing this week and good stuff like that. I just got a second job, so I'm working about 60 hours a week and it sometimes sucks, like when I'm awake. http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/wink.gif

I've finally almost gotten over the shock and horror of last week's tragedy, which is good. It was really getting to me for awhile there. I can't watch footage anymore, it just depresses me so much. I'd rather focus on bombing everyone in Afghanistan right now. I'm kidding!!! I really am kidding. I just want all of this to end.

Darky and Jami, I wanna talk to you about your panic attacks sometime! I'll email you soon Darky; and Jami, next time I see you on messenger, is it ok if I IM you? Thanks guys.

So uh...what's everyone doing this weekend? What's going on in your lives? How's the family?

Party on.

Glad to hear you got another job. http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/smile.gif What does it involve, if I may ask? I hope they're paying you well for all the hours at least. Not much going on down here, same as usual, still working on this thesis and the million other assignments that are all due in reasonably soon. It's been a fairly quiet week, I went to see my grandma in hospital... somehow (about a week ago now) she slipped on her driveway, fell and broke her leg in 3 places http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/frown.gif. It's really hard for her to get around now, as if it wasn't hard enough before, so I feel really terrible for her. She has her leg in a cast now and I think soon will be allowed to leave the hospital, hopefully it won't be too long before she's up & about and back on her feet.

Aw, that's too bad about your grandmother.http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/frown.gif Speaking of which, I haven't seen my grandparents in the longest time. Mostly because my grandpa had to be put in a nursing home since he had a stroke a couple months ago. It's pretty sad, we all miss him.http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/frown.gif

My new job involves insurance. It's a physician's billing office and we deal with payments, charges, claims, stuff like that. It's not the best job but the people that work there are awesome, so it's fun.

I just woke up and for some reason, I am INCREDIBLY melancholy today already. I should be happy that it's Saturday and I'm not at work but I'm actually wishing I WAS at work because I'm so frickin lonely right now. Ugh, I hate it. http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/cry2.gif

Ummmmm....... hi. Well, of course it's alright if you IM me, Marissa, you know that. Don't be so sad today! Get happy with me! http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/grin.gif Anyway, glad your job is going well. Boris ~ give grandma my love http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/smile.gif. This weekend? Well, last night I went out clubbing with friends ~ Fun! Fun! But I'm paying the price today, hung over http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/tongue5.gif. Tonight? I think I wanna go to see a movie. The rest of my life? I heard that there are over 400 hundred kids without parents from the World Trade Center tragedy ... they said there's a number you can call about fostering or adopting these kids. My hubby and I were thinking about looking into this. Anyone from New York or around there know about this?

Hope these messages are helping your mood, Marissa! It's a busy weekend here. I started teaching catechism classes today. I was really nervous, but I think it went well. My daughter's attending classes, too, so I'm glad to be involved. There's no pay (bummer!) but I don't have to pay for her class, so at least I'm sorta compensated. My husband and I are going bowling tonight (whee!http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/smile.gif fun!) and...well, I guess that's it.

Jami I hadn't heard that there are now 400 children that have been orphaned because of the events of last week. How sad. Cool that you and your husband are contemplating helping a child out. That's such a big responsibility, but I'm sure you'll do fine, if you do persue it.

Lastly, Boris, I hope your grandma is feeling well and will heal quickly. I'll pray for a quick recovery for her.

Hello! Just checking in from the cybercafe! I've had a busy weekend so far too and it's only 1:45 on Saturday afternoon! Went to see our local Beatles tribute band last night and they gave one of the best shows I've ever seen. (And trust me, I'm hard to impress!) Lots of songs they'd never tried before, like "Rain", which was totally excellent! And everybody was in a really up mood - I think the events of last week, although still very much in everyone's minds, are starting to lose that first stab of horror, and people are starting to be able to enjoy themselves again.

I hope everyone's parents and grandparents are fine and that all of you have a lovely weekend! http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/smile.gif

Hi everyone...

4GF - this is a really nice topic. It is really good to hear what others are doing to return to some state of 'normality'. http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/smile.gif

I've been working a lot - I have two jobs: I work at a church, and I also am working as a photographer's assistant. However, I've been building up a steady list of clients myself. I've been pretty busy taking engagement, baby, wedding, and High School senior pictures.

Well, it is really good to hear about what is going on with everyone else.

NWM & Darkhorse: I feel your pain with your studies and tests... http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/bigeyes1.gif I'm in the middle of crafting a fifty page term paper. NWM - I hope your grandmother heals quickly.

Lynner - congratulations on the beginning of your role as 'catechism teacher'. I'm sure you are doing a fabulous job. http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/smile.gif

Jami - It really is wonderful that you and your husband are looking into foster/adoption for those children. If you get anymore information, will you let me know? I am adopted, and it really touches me when people are interested in helping. http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/heart1.gif

Rellevart - I'm so glad that the AE concert was good. I'm going to a Fab Four concert next weekend, and am really looking forward to the chance to... relax for an evening. (Their "George" plays a killer "While My Guitar Gently Weeps"...) http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/musicnotes.gif

Anyways - I hope that your weeks continue to go well. Thank you to all of the 'regulars' in this forum who are so welcoming to the rest of us. You really make this an encouraging place to visit.

I have a regular routine each week. Working Monday-Friday can get traumatic for me this time of the year. I ship hunting equipment. I worked 8½ hours of overtime this week and will probably match or beat that next week.

To relax, I go bowling four times a week. (Tuesday, Thursday and Friday nights & Sunday afternoon)

NWM, darkhorse and Allie, hope you all pass your exams. Also NWM, hope your grandmother gets well soon.

Marissa, just keep thinking happy thoughts of you and Scotty. That should cheer you up.

Four times a week? Wow! I bowled on a league for years, but now we're down to a once a month league. What's your average? Mine's a rather pitiful 135.

I work 5 10 hour days routinely. I've had only 2 vacation days off so far this year.
To unwind, I take my dog on long walks, and play with my band once every weekend usually Sat nights these days and let it all hang out for 3 or 4 hours. Every now and again we play out somewhere. Speaking of drinks, we are known to drink some Red Stripes on occasion.

Wow Forty, good to know you opened a topic about this after all. I'm in deep panic, because my horrible third round of Tests starts on Monday with Calculus... and I've been studying like someone who really really doesn't have a life. And I should be getting back to it now but I thought it would be fun to get in here for awhile. My week will be awful, I have Calculus test on Monday, Algebra on Tuesday, Physics on Wednesday and Chemistry on Friday.

My parents and sister are very well thank you. http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/grin.gif Hope you all have a better week than mine.

40, other than our shared feelings about the song Yesterday, we seem to have more in common sincerecently, because I am in inurance too.

I work for Marsh, with Aon two of the biggest worldwide Insurance Broking firms.

My job is broking which means that I place property insurance mainly for Dutch multinationals. Consulting on one side -client- and than negotiations price, terms with insurance markets in our country and in London or elsewhere in Europe.

The US happenings and what is still to come have other then the personal side, also a huge financial impact on our business. Losses of reinsurers will be that high that we worry about the S&P ratings and the financial state of many insurers.

You see what happens at stock exchange markets, it can in a way be compared to our markets. Companies not wanting to cover war risks anymore or like what is now happening with Aviation markets for airoplane coverage.

And for my work it will mean a very very heavy forthcoming months with renewals of policies coming up and possible lack of capacity, cause in most accounts I deal with we deal with capacities required for Industrial sites, so millions of $. Yet, interesting and challaging. I love my job.

My wife and kids are fine and you get to respect that even more in days like this. Saying goodbye at mornings when we all leave for school or work gets a different meaning again.

I play tennis every week and will again start work-out in my sportschool.

And I relax, most of the time, with you out here, which is good for the brain.

My week was good although we started school two weeks ago and it's a bit hard of me to adapt.Except from school I'm going to a language school where I learn English,French and German because the language courses that our school and every school here in Greece provides are in a very low level and go really slow!So this takes a lot of my free time(I have almost no free time during week days because I'm studying for the school and the evenings I have my language courses) But at least there's the weekend!!!

Long time no talk woman!!! Well, if you read my post in the sub, it's titled something like "My interesting Saturday morning" or something like that. That tells you about one day of my life these past couple weex. Otherwise, just waiting to hear from that job that I always tell you about. I don't know if I told you but I went to fill out an application last Monday. As I told you b4, my mom's best friend worx there so I met her there and she filled out a reference page for me. So it's good that I have someone already in the company backing me up. I'm hoping that they call today cuz she says that they usually call people on Mondays. And if they don't call today then I'm gonna call them tomorrow. I REFUSE to slack off on this!!! I NEED THIS JOB!!! Everyone please pray that I get it please!!!!!!!!! And of course I will pray for everyone else as well. Sounds like all of us have gone through a lot of stuff these past 2 weex. But I know that we will all pull through.

I love you guys!!!

Hey, reading everyone's replies cheered me up! It's actually kinda nice having a topic where we all just talk about our days or weekends or whatever. I'm glad everyone seems to be doing well.

FP, I had to laugh at your post just because even though we're both "in" insurance, you obviously know 552,356,345,456,234% more about it than I do. Meaning, I basically know nothing (especially since I JUST started). But thanks anyway for just...replying and being cool I guess. http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/smile.gif I didn't know you have a wife and kids, I'm glad you guys are happy together and realize how lucky you are to all be safe.

As for me, things are just...really repetitive. Go to my job, go to my other job, come home and chat with Scotty, go to bed, repeat. But I guess that's just how life is, eh?

The cool news is that I got my engagement ring on Saturday and it is sooooo pretty! I love it so much! http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/inlove2.gif It's not even anything fancy, but it's still perfect.

Life is good.

What do you mean by "tight"? This must be an American expression, I certainly don't think it would be the Aussie one. http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/eyebrows.gif

So, back to what's going on in your lives! I have the day off work today, which is WONDERFUL. It's a beautiful day here in Chicago - sunny and 75 - quite warm for October. As soon as I'm done typing this message, I'm going out for a long walk. Spent the morning sleeping late and going to breakfast and shopping with Lynner; much fun.

Last night I went to a concert by Ray Davies (lead singer and songwriter for the Kinks, in case you don't know). He was fantastic!! He was very laid-back and hilariously funny and he played quite a number of my favorites of his songs. (Though I did miss "Days", which is probably my favorite.) Fantastic time, except for the fact that they packed us into the theatre like sardines!! We had to leap over a couple of other seats and do this wild contortionist move (shut up...don't say it) just to get out to the bathroom! Yikes!

I saw the kinks in the 70's and Ray Davies was a charismatic front man that I did not expect. Great performer and character. Glad you enjoyed the show, Rellevart.

Life has been really busy for me lately. Between working, writing term papers, studying for mid-term exams, and my other activities - it's hard to find time to breathe. http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/blush4.gif

However, I have made a few new friends, and my family finally received a letter from my little sister (she is 18 and in Boot Camp for the U.S. Army). It was a relief and a blessing to hear from her, though she is clearly pretty scared and tired.

All in all, things have retained some sense of 'normal-ness' in our little beach town. http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/smile.gif I am content.

Things are pretty hectic for me at the moment. 3 weeks to go till the end of year, 2 big assignments and an even bigger thesis to hand in by then, and then it's all over, albeit for a few months. I can't believe I've been at uni 5 years already, highschool seemed like yesterday. Time sure does fly, even when you're not having fun. Anyways, I'm really looking forward to December. I leave on the 5th for the States and I'll get to spend a whole month with Sara. http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/smile.gif

2 weeks and a day is better than no time at all. http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/grin.gif Maybe we'll run into each other somewhere along the way, the ticket I'm looking at getting is for a one-month stay... so if I leave Dec 5th I'll probably be on my way back Jan 5th, or sometime right after New Years.

Quote:
Hey Boris, doesn't it suck that they can't meet us at the airport as we walk off the plane?http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/frown.gif Ah well.

How do you mean exactly? I'm not sure how it is for you with flying in to meet Scotty in terms of the size of your aircraft (and the size of the airport you land at) but for me it's on one of those really small charter-type (American Airlines) planes as Evansville is such a small airport... so when I got there last time we had to walk down the steps of the plane onto the actual tarmac, then had to walk across and up the stairs leading into the airport. Is that the same for you??

Just on that, when Sara left Brisbane Airport here, it SO sucked because they somehow designed the airport so the travellers are separated from the people seeing them off cause after they go through customs and all that they have to go down a set of stairs which are barred to anyone not flying, and so for about half an hour I was up top looking through a sheet of glass down at her as she waited in line to board the plane - and it was horrible, almost like being in one of those prisons where you speak to whoever's seeing you through that phone behind a plate of glass that separates you! I almost couldn't bare to watch... though of course, I snuck down on the elevator to where she was so I could be with her for as long as possible. Bugger them if they're gonna stop me from seeing her off properly!

Quote:
So how much did your ticket cost you this time? Mine was $206, I got it off the American Airlines website.

$206 ay? Not bad! Not bad at all, I must say. For me, this time round - and taking into account that Christmas is 'high season' - it will be a little more expensive than last time. I actually paid the flight centre a visit yesterday to work out the pricing, and the lady managed to find me a pretty good deal - it works out to be about $2300 (Aus dollars I think) for a return ticket, which is about $500 or so more than what I paid last time. So I'd go to Evansville via Auckland (hear that, Luce?), LA and Chicago. Alternatively there's another option where I go through Shanghai or Beijing and spend a night there, so I'm still trying to work out which would be better. If I want it at the cheaper price I just mentioned, then I must pay the fare within 10 days. Otherwise, it's gonna cost $500 MORE!http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/chainsaw.gif

She will be done with school - actually, I think her final exam might be 2 days after I get there, but that'll give me time to recover from jet lag while she studies so it'll work out ok. She'll still be working, a few days a week I should imagine. But again, no big deal here, she had to work last time while I was there but it worked out cool. She will be taking work off for when we go down to Florida though, which will be nice. http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/grin.gif

That sucked about watching her for half an hour before she boarded the plane.http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/frown.gif I would have been sobbing hysterically like the little baby that I am for the entire half hour. Anyway, back to the point. When I go see him in December, I obviously won't be working which is good, I'm surprised they let me have over two weeks off. Me rich? Hardly! I have very nice parents though. http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/grin.gif But I will be forking out to pay my way - let's just say I've found a much better use for my scholarship money. Who needs an education anyway, right? http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/wink.gif I went to another travel agency yesterday and managed to get a price of $1760 for a ticket - almost $500 cheaper than what I had to begin with from the first one I went to! <sigh> That was a perfect description of exactly how it is with Sara and I. http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/inlove3.gif We are both very emotional too, especially when it comes to having to say goodbye, and we're always a wreck right before one of us has to leave. Sometimes we'll manage to hold it in as much as we can at the airport, but as soon as you're on the plane or back in your car, that's it. All comes out then. And for a few days afterwards you always feel that sense of loss, things just don't seem right for a while until you get back into your old routine. You'll find as time goes by it will get a lot easier to deal with being apart for a while - and as you said about telling yourself that things will go by quick and thinking ahead to how perfect everything's gonna be when you're finally together for always, that's exactly all you need to do to keep yourself going. And those 70 odd days you have to wait till you see him again really are gonna flash right by in no time and things will be just as before, everything will be perfect once again. http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/smile.gif

Though they have strictly insisted I do not buy them anything this year. Yeah, right. http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/wink.gif

My parents were going to name me "Randy" but thought it sounded too American. Funny that. http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/wink.gif

So anyway, back to Sara and Scotty (our favorite subjects) http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/wink.gif

Yes, your parents sound VERY generous. Very, VERY generous. If a ticket is $1500 is Australian dollars, what is that in American? I'm too lazy to look it up. I still can't believe I got a ticket for $206!! As soon as I saw it, I bought it. I went back to American Airlins.com the NEXT DAY and it was already over $400. I was EXTREMELY lucky because I definitely couldn't afford that.

And besides the younger sister, Scotty also has a younger brother (he's 18). Plus he has about a zillion other relatives in Toronto that I'm going to meet. Not nervous at all! http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/wink.gif I really actually am excited to meet everyone, I hope they like me. Then again, who WOULDN'T like me, ya know? http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/grin.gif And yeah, he met my parents. Well, just my mom. He didn't meet my dad because my dad's a freak and he doesn't deserve to meet Scotty. No hard feelings towards him or anything.http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/wink.gif And I don't know if my mom liked him, they only talked for about 5 minutes the entire time he was here because we were always gone doing our own thing.

So Sara wants a George Foreman grill, eh? That's VERY romantic.http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/tongue.gif I told Scotty my engagement ring was enough of a present but he still wants to get me something. Except that I don't even know what I want. I just want him, actually. Then I'm happy. http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/smile.gif

By the way, does Sara have any other siblings? And how much of her family (besides immediate) did you meet?

Our dollar is worth half as much as yours, so if you ever get anything in Aussie dollars all you need to do is halve it to get the US equivalent - if the ticket was $1500, that'd be about $750 US dollars. My airfare will work out to be around US$900, and I'll have to take a bit of spending money with me too, so it's not too bad for this time of year.

That is really good! Yeah, they often put up prices by a massive amount with no warning whatsoever, they go up and down like a yoyo most of the time - you'd think they would lower the prices now considering all that's happened and people not wanting to fly, but it's not so is it. I was amazed to find all flights after Dec 5 completely booked out untill after New Years! More so the domestic seats, especially since one of our major airlines has gone bust I guess - and now everyone has to pay extra tax on their airfares just so all the workers out of a job can be compensated now. Also, believe it or not, there's some kind of 'terrorist tax' they introduced! We probably have to pay for reinforced cockpit doors or something. I dunno, but it all adds up - luckily my ticket was reasonably cheap to begin with.

That's good, you wouldn't want any twin brothers floating around though! That could get messy. Good to see you're excited about meeting them too - so you should be! Just think, you'll have to be excited to see them for the rest of your life, so you may as well get used to it! http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/wink.gif

She just has the one brother who's my age, and like Scotty has a TON of relatives all over the place - from Florida to Tennessee to Portland to back home in Indiana. I was fortunate enough to meet about 95% of them! Her aunt from Florida came up to Indiana while I was there, and we visited her aunt and uncle down in Tennessee, I saw her aunts/uncles in Indiana, her grandparents, cousins, other relatives, just about all of them except for the ones living in Portland. So it was really good to meet them, and they were all so cool and really accepted me as one of their own. I'm sure it'll be just the same for you too! http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/thumbsup.gif It's an awesome feeling to know you're in. http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/wink.gif

I'm doing okay, I guess (with school). But tonight, I found out that my grandma (who's 69 years old) has leukemia and has about a year to live (according to the doctors). She's at the hospital now. She lives in Ohio with my aunt and uncle. My mom and I are going to see her over Martin Luther King Jr. Day weekend (that is if I don't have a job yet). If I have a job, then I won't be able to go.
So, that's my latest news... http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/frown.gif

I'm sorry to hear about your grandmother, Kristi. I hope the doctors are wrong and that she outlives their expectations. If you don't have the chance to see her, try calling or writing her. I'm sure she'd apprecaiate that.

Sending you and your family best wishes,

Sandra

Oh, Kristi - I'm so sorry to hear about your grandmother. I spend a lot of time taking care of my grandmothers, and know how precious they are. Please know that my prayers are with you and your family.

My life is going well - for the most part. I am really busy with school, work, music, extra curriculur stuff, etc. and haven't had any time to spend with my family or friends. It is good to hear how everyone else is doing. http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/smile.gif

No, I'm still at school, Rellevart. But after December 15th, I'll be in Palatine for awhile. That is, until I find a job. Thank you everyone for your kind words. I hope the doctors are wrong...but unfortunately, for the majority of her life, my grandma drank and smoked (she stopped smoking over thirty years ago, but continued to drink--and a few years ago she stopped drinking too) but it was still too late. My mom said doing all of that stuff for such a long time takes about 10 years off of your life. I think she's right. Many people in my family have been a victim to alcoholism. My mom told me that one of our family members did make it to 80 years old (he died awhile ago) and he never drank or smoked. We'll see what they days bring....

Sorry to hear about your grandma, Kristi http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/frown.gif. I hope you get to see her at least and spend some time with her. My grandma (who fell and broke her leg recently) is doing much better now thankfully, I went to see her yesterday and she's got her cast off & is slowly walking around on both feet, with the help of a walking stick to lean on.

Other than that things have been very busy for me personally with uni finishing in under 2 weeks. All my assignments are due in soon together with my thesis, so I'll have to knuckle down and get the lot done.
