Even though we all in Chile are still very confused about last Tuesday's terrible tragedy and the consequences that it could have in the near future, I'd like to say that today (September 18th), we are celebrating our Independance Day. http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/grin.gif
On today's Te Deum (a traditional multireligious ceremony offered in Santiago's main church), there were lots of prayers for USA, the victims of the horrible attacks and, most of all, for world's peace. Of course I'm praying too.
But I also want to say that I love my country. It could be located in the third world, but we have been blessed with a wonderful land, and luckily, we have been able to build a moment in which we're finally (although with lots of problems in the way), we're living in peace, after 30 hard years in which democracy lost its legitimate place and human rights were violated. We're free again, we live in peace, and we have been able to rebuilt our structures to find ourselves submerged into the new global world, which still has lots of things to achieve for all of us. http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/smile.gif
So, sorry if I sound too enthusiastic, but I want to thank God for being born here, and to ask him for his blessings to this country.

Happy day for you, darkhorse!
No reason to apologize for sounding enthusiastic about your country....it's wonderful that you love it! I think we've all been feeling surges of patriotism lately, no matter where we're from!

Depends where you start counting but I don't consider Chile being a 3rd world country.
I can imagine the celebration of this day and remembering other periods which were in a chilly - cold atmosphere.
Good for you and your country.
