Well, the webspace provider that hosted it has decided to close down. Hence the following email...

---------------------------------------------

Dear Member:

We are writing to you today with the unfortunate news that TerraShare will
soon be ending its web hosting service and shutting down the
company. Unfortunately, we believe this is the only available option after
our extensive attempts to find additional advertisers for the site or
someone to acquire the company ultimately proved unsuccessful.

We know that this creates a significant inconvenience for you, but your
site will be available for the next week, giving you time to move your
files to another provider. Money owed to you will be paid out on a pro
rata basis with our other unsecured creditors.

We want you to know that we have taken extraordinary actions to keep
TerraShare available to you during the past months. Our staff has worked
without pay since the end of January, and we have signed advertising
agreements with multiple advertising agencies who promised significantly
more than they ended up delivering. We also hired an investment bank to
find a company who could acquire TerraShare, thereby allowing the company
to continue operations. Unfortunately, all of these efforts to keep the
service alive fell victim to the precipitous decline in Internet
advertising rates and other market conditions. With no buyer in sight and
our advertisers not performing, we reluctantly have no other choice but to
shut down operations.

From all of us here at TerraShare, it has been a privilege serving you
across the past year. We have been amazed by the quality of the content
you've created and the number of visitors you have attracted to your
sites. We hope that you have found our service to have been helpful. As
we part ways, we know that our loss will be another company's gain.

On behalf of Team TerraShare,

Joe O'Brien John Gregory

It's very lucky I decided to transfer my site to fortunecity just 2 days ago!

Well Harb, if you're lucky fortunecity won't be closing up shop in a year or two.

I'm sorry to hear about your web host, Harb...but glad you found another one! That's the problem with dot-coms, they come and go, and more likely than not, they go...I use HostSave for my site, costs $6.95/month, but I don't know if they take overseas customers -- however, they come highly recommended from various friends as well as my brother. Just something for you to keep in mind in case your new host goes the way of the old...

Glad you didn't get shut down entirely, though...

NWM, you look a tad subdued. Do you think you could be a little more enthusiastic in your posts?

It isn't the address that's running out (It runs out in September), it's just the webspace provider. My .net name is just a redirectional thing.

My new host is fortunecity.co.uk and I'll be finished by the end of the week!

NWM seems a little down.http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/wink.gif

Harb,
You're lucky you got a warning. aboveworld.com,the people who hosted timbrent.net,didn't send me the e-mail telling me that it was being turned into a PREMIUM service,so all was lost. Luckily I was too lazy to take my Beatles sites off of Tripod UK and Geocities http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/grin.gif. As for the other stuff, the JFK and World's Fair stuff I was thinking of redoing anyway...

Believe me, it took a LOT of work to transfer it. There were over 60 pages that had to be individually altered so that every link to pages, sounds and images all went to the new server. Also, over 150 seperate images had to be downloaded, renamed, and uploaded to the new server!!!

I hope it's permanent too!
