Ok, one little teeny vent before I go off for a long holiday weekend....it DRIVES ME CRAZY that my boss, who has known me for 15 years and worked with me for 3 CANNOT seem to pronounce my last name! It's kind of long and German, but not that difficult! Everyone else seems to be able to pronounce it, but every time my boss has to say it, it comes out mangled!

It also drives me crazy that people ALWAYS call me "Susan", though my name is "Suzanne".

Ok. That was TWO little vents! http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/smile.gif

My gripe:living in Detroit.
The largest part of the extrotion, racketeering and dope dealing going on seems to be by the police. For years,I've seen businesses ower by cops being used as fronts for dope dealing, and I have seen them shake down other dealers and hookers for money.
In fact,in recent weeks the cheif of police and other high ranking DPD officials have suddenly announced resignations.
I wonder why? http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/rolleyes.gif

My current venting of steam deals with practical jokers. This woman at work "spiked" my coffee the other day. When I told the supervisor what happened, she confessed.

I decided to be a gentleman about it and not have her written up. So I believed it was over. The next day, she kept coming in after I left a computer terminal I was working on and would sign it off. I knew she was doing it from the way she acted.

Yesterday, my car was tampered with. Who was the first to mention something, that's right. She was the one.

Thank goodness I won't have to see her for a week now. She'll be on vacation next week, so maybe I'll be able to work in peace. (At least for the week.)

My rants fall under the category of pet peeves:

1. I absulutely DETEST any version of the tired cliche, "don't go there." I HATE IT!

2. Finger tapping irritates me

3. I hate it when people say "do what" when they don't understand you. Please, folks, omit the "do" and just stick to "what." That one really annoys me.

4. Cell phones in church. Back in March, a woman in my pew received a call on her cell phone IN THE MIDDLE OF MASS and it was clearly a personal call and not an emergency. Luckily the usher escorted her and her darn cell phone outside. If it is not an emergency, PLEASE DON'T CHAT ON YOUR CELL PHONE DURING MASS!

In the words of the great John Lennon, "I'll get you in the end, oh, yeah..." That's how I feel when any of these irritants come up.

Tell me about this one! Just a few nights ago it happened in my church and annoyed the living crap out of me and everyone else... the phone rang (why even have it on in the first place?!) and this nob answered it, and kept sayin "hello? hello?" cause he couldn't hear who was on the other line! GRRR! Ok ok so it was my uncle, but if I were next to him I would have shoved the phone so far down his throat his ass would have had a ringtone! Very disrespectful, especially since it was just our family gathered in there to pray for my grandad before he had his open-heart surgery a few days ago. http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/angry6.gif

I remember being in church a couple months ago and someone had the ringtone to the Eminem song Stan. After several scornful looks, someone picked it up and threw it outside. I cried for weeks.

It was in my pocket at the time.

Just kidding, but I understand what everyone is saying about this. If I was paying my respects to someone, the last thing I'd want to hear is the birdie song being played through a Nokia 3210.

My steam today is directed towards the fire department! When I was ready to leave the office last night, there was some really acrid smelling smoke coming out of one of the stairwells and we heard fire engines approaching the building. We called downstairs to the building office and they said they "thought" there "might" be a fire and were shutting down the elevators (I'm on the 22nd floor, mind you).

The prospect of walking down 22 flights of stairs didn't really turn me on (ok, no rude cracks there guys), so we waited a few minutes after the fire department got there and called again. Now the fire department "thought there might be" a fire. Um...don't you think this is the sort of thing that the fire department ought to KNOW?

Anyway, they told us they "recommended" that we leave the building "just in case", but that it was up to us. So, after working for 10 hours, I had to walk down 22 flights of stairs to get out of a "possibly" burning building. Turns out it was some electrical equipment smoking and not a huge deal, but how were we to know that when NOBODY KNOWS ANYTHING. Grrrrrrrr.... http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/chainsaw.gif

Man, the stuff about cell phones in church burns me up too -- I mean, these days I have heard church and synagogue services start with announcements by the priest or rabbi or whomever requesting that congregants turn off their cell phones -- and people STILL leave them on and take calls! Happened during High Holiday services at my synagogue, but fortunately the person went outside immediately. Still, the mere idea that anyone would have to request that cells be turned off in a place of worship galls me -- are the people who show up at these services idiots, or what?

Grrrr....

Oh, and Kat -- I'd watch out for that weird woman, she sounds dangerous to me!

Rell,

Thumbs up for your timely post.

The use of "your" instead of "you're" has riled me for years. http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/angry6.gif It has been a bete noire of mine for many years. Confusing the use of the "to, too, twos" annoys me too.

ENGLISH LESSON

Got TO Get You InTO My Life
All I've Got TO Do
TWO Of Us
John is funny, but Ringo is funny TOO

I hope we don't have TO tell you this again. It took TWO of us, Revellart and myself TO impart this lesson at large and I hope we won't have TO bring out TWO chainsaws TOO! http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/chainsaw.gif http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/chainsaw.gif

HERE IS MY MAJOR RANT! I AM SICK AND TIRED OF PEOPLE SAYING "DO WHAT" WHEN THEY DON'T UNDERSTAND YOU! PLEASE, FOLKS, DROP THE DAMN DO AND JUST SAY "WHAT" LIKE YOU DID UNTIL RECENTLY!!!! THAT DAMN "DO WHAT" http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/angry6.gif http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/angry8.gif BELONGS IN THE CESSPOOL! IT REALLY IRRITATES ME! http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/angry6.gif

Another rant -- those damn Schlitterbahn-bahn (it's a water park in New Braufels, TX) commercials in Texas. They are highly annoying and have made many a Texas resident feel homicidal. http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/chainsaw.gif Those damn ads bring out the worst in many of us in the Lone STARR State.

Grrrrrr....I just got into work (I start at 7 am) to find an e-mail from one of the senior consultants asking me if I'd look over a presentation he's giving later on this morning because it needs some secretarial work. Excuse me? Since when am I a SECRETARY??? Don't get me wrong - I have the utmost respect for our clerical staff and can't imagine how we'd get along without them! But I am NOT a secretary and never have been - I don't even know HOW to do secretarial work! I'm a degreed professional, but he just assumes I'll play secretary because I'm a woman??? Ooh, can I rant about bad grammar TOO? I'll add my TWO cents TO the TWO of you TOO! As the editor of a fiction webzine, one of the things that drives me craziest is when people submit work to me without checking the grammar or the spelling!! If you fancy yourself a writer, then DON'T SUBMIT A SLOPPY MANUSCRIPT!!! I can't tell you how many submissions I've rejected after reading only one paragraph simply on the basis of the poor grammar and atrocious spelling and usage! USE A STYLEBOOK, for God's sake! How hard is it to use a spelling and grammar checker in a word processing program? ARGH!!!! http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/chainsaw.gif

And Rellevart, if that guy in your office assumes you can or should do the secretarial work simply because you're female, let him have it! http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/chainsaw.gif

Ugh!

Ok, so this is how stupid people in Utah are- some guy just called (I'm a campus operator at my college) and he goes, "Who should I talk to about applying?"

And I say, "Admissions, but they're closed already."

And he replies, "Can you transfer me to them?"

Why? WHY??

I used to work at Publisher's Weekly (the worst job I ever had) and I could always count on getting a call at least twice every week when somebody wanted to know "how often did Publisher's Weekly come out." I'll bet these are the same people who don't know who was buried in Grant's Tomb or what kind of tree you get an olive branch from.

50 megs has me really hot under the collar right now! All of my sites are there, and suddenly last month MIDI files became inaccessible. I'd post a complaint, and get an email telling me how to put music on my pages. I'd write them back telling them I know how to put music on 'em, the music was there, and now it's gone! I finally bombarded them from each of my sites, and got a "we're working on it" reply to one of them.

I'm actually paying good "banner be gone" money for one of the sites, so I posted a complaint from there about MIDI files still not being accessible, and the idjit finally responded "But I couldn't find anywhere on your pages where you were trying to load an audio file."

I quickly responded, "And you won't until the MIDIs on my other pages start playing again!"

I mean, come on, the whole set-up for Beatlemaniac is karaoke-style!! What good is it if MIDI files won't play??? http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/fire2.gif

For as long as I have known how to read (which is over ten years) I have obtained a perfect record for never ever returning a library book on time. Conveniently, whenever the time to return them is upon us, one of the following scenarios occur:

A.) The book is missing, presumed lost, damaged, desroyed, or in some sort of dangerous predicament.

B.) A situation arises that closes the library, preventing me from returning the book. Possible situations include, but are not limited to holidays, Sundays, construction or card catalogue updating days, flash floods, tornadoes, illness of entire library staff, or life threatening solar eclipses.

C.) There is no recollection in my mind whatsoever that I even have a book checked out, let alone that it is due back.

Bearkat, my library does have a drop off slot, but when I have something besides a book checked out, like a magazine, CD, video, cassette, or anything else, you are not allowed to use the drop off slot.

Hey, Penny, that's better than my local library -- they don't have a dropoff slot at all!! But yeah, I can understand about not returning stuff on time -- that happens to me all the time!!

I think about the only good thing that happened to me this weekend was that I DID get my library books returned on time! http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/smile.gif

My rant for today regards people who are just mean and nasty for no good reason. I was at a show by a band I like on Saturday night and these stupid drunken bimbos (and I AM toning down my language here) started shoving me around and stepping on me and when I (very politely, mind you) turned and said "Could you maybe watch where you're stepping a little?", they started screaming at me and calling me a b**** and a psycho!! Excuse me, but I go out to be entertained, not to be verbally abused!!

Unfortunately, although I love the band, I'm going to have to cut down on seeing them because I just can't take the incredible rudeness of the rest of their fans. Disgusting. That's NOT what it should be about. http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/frown.gif

Yeah, me too... go figure! I check out something like 20 books, read 'em all in 2 days and take a year to return 'em... My overdue fines are supporting the local library, LOL!

Let's see....who should I complain about today? http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/smile.gif

How about people who don't know how to use revolving doors? They stand there and wait until all the people have gotten out of the revolving door before they'll get in! Or they get in and stand there and don't realize you have to PUSH! I ran into both types on my lunch break today!

I guess if that's the worst thing I have to complain about, this must be a pretty good week! http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/smile.gif

What kind of math does he use???
