A well known speaker started off his seminar by holding up a $100 bill.

In the room of 200 people, he asked, "Who would like this $100 bill?" Hands started going up.

He said, "I am going to give this $100 to
one of you but first, let me do this." He proceeded to crumple the dollar bill up.

He then asked, "Who still wants it?" The hands stayed in the air.

"Well", he replied, "what if I do this?" And he dropped it on the ground and started to
grind it into the floor with his shoe. He picked it up, now crumpled and dirty. "Now who still wants it?" Still the hands went into the air.

"My friends, you have all learned a very
valuable lesson. No matter what I did to the
money, you still wanted it because it did not
decrease in value. It was still worth $100.
Many times in our lives, we are dropped,
crumpled, and ground into the dirt by the
decisions we make and the circumstances that come our way. We feel as though we are worthless. But no matter what has happened or what will happen, you will never lose your value: dirty or clean, crumpled or finely creased, you are still priceless to those who love you. The worth of our lives come not in what we do or who we know, but by WHO WE ARE. You are special - don't ever forget it.

Once upon a time there was a child ready to be born. The child asked
God, "They tell me you are sending me to earth
tomorrow, but how am I going to live there being so small and
helpless?"

God replied, "Among the many angels, I chose one for you. Your angel
will be waiting for you and will take care of you."

The child further inquired, "But tell me, here in heaven I don't have to

do anything but sing and smile to be happy."

God said, "Your angel will sing for you and will also smile for you
everyday. And you will feel your angel's love and be very happy."

Again the child asked, "And how am I going to be able to understand when
people talk to me if I don't know the language?"

God said, "Your angel will tell you the most beautiful and sweet words
you will ever hear, and with much patience and care, your angel will
teach you how to speak."

"And what am I going to do when I want to talk to you?"

God said, "Your angel will place your hands together and will teach you
how to pray."

"I've heard that on Earth there are bad men. Who will protect me?"

God said, "Your angel will defend you even if it means risking it's
life."

"But I will always be sad because I will not see you anymore."

God said, "Your angel will always talk to you about me and will teach
you the way to come back to me, even though I will always
be next to you."

At that moment there was much peace in heaven, but voices from Earth
could be heard and the child hurriedly asked, "God, if I am to leave
now,
please tell me my angel's name."

"Her name is not important. You will simply call her Mom."

This is one of my favourite little parables, it's called "Footprints in the sand"...

One night a man had a dream. He dreamed he was walking along the beach with the LORD. Across the sky flashed scenes from his life. For each scene, he noticed two sets of footprints in the sand; one belonging to him, and the other to the LORD.

When the last scene of his life flashed before him, he looked back at the footprints in the sand. He noticed that many times along the path of life there was only one set of footprints. He also noticed that it happened at the very lowest and saddest times in his life.

This really bothered him and he questioned the LORD about it.

"LORD, you said that once I decided to follow you, you'd walk with me all the way. But I noticed that during the most troublesome times in my life, there is only one set of footprints. I don't understand why when I needed you most you would leave me."

The LORD replied, "My precious, precious child, I love you and I would never leave you. During your times of trial and suffering, when you see only one set of footprints, it was then that I carried you."

Boris, I too have always liked that one. Here is something that I have always loved, by Robert Frost:

Two roads diverged in a yellow wood,
And sorry I could not travel both
And be one traveler, long I stood
And looked down one as far as I could
To where it bent in the undergrowth;

Then took the other, as just as fair,
And having perhaps the better claim,
Because it was grassy and wanted wear;
Though as for that the passing there
Had worn them really about the same,

And both that morning equally lay
In leaves no step had trodden black.
Oh, I kept the first for another day!
Yet knowing how way leads on to way,
I doubted if I should ever come back.

I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I-
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.

*** A LESSON FROM ROSE *****************

The first day of school our professor introduced himself and challenged us to get to know someone we didn't already know. I stood up to look around when a gentle hand touched my shoulder. I turned around to find a wrinkled, little old lady beaming up at me with a smile that lit up her entire being. She said, "Hi, handsome. My name is Rose. I'm eighty seven years old. Can I give you a hug?"

I laughed and enthusiastically responded, "Of course you may!" and she gave me a giant squeeze. "Why are you in college at such a young, innocent age?" I asked. She jokingly replied, "I'm here to meet a rich husband, get married, have a couple of children, then retire and travel."

"No, seriously," I asked. I was curious what may have motivated her to be taking on this challenge at her age. "I always dreamed of having a college education and now I'm earning one!" she told me.

After class we walked to the student union building and shared a chocolate milkshake. We became instant friends. Every day for the next three months we would leave class together and talk nonstop. I was always mesmerized listening to this "time machine" as she shared her wisdom and experience with me.

Over the course of the year, Rose became a campus icon and easily made friends wherever she went. She reveled in the attention bestowed upon her from the other students. She was really "living it up."

At the end of the semester we invited Rose to speak at our football banquet; I'll never forget what she taught us. She was introduced and stepped up to the podium. As she began to deliver her prepared speech, she dropped her three-by-five cards on the floor.

Frustrated and a little embarrassed, Rose leaned into the microphone and simply said, "I'm sorry I'm so jittery. I gave up beer for Lent and this whiskey is killing me! I'll never get my speech back in order so let me just tell you what I know." As we laughed, she cleared her throat and began.

"We do not stop playing because we are old; we grow old because we stop playing. There are only four secrets to staying young, being happy, and achieving success.

1- "You have to laugh and find humor every day."

2- "You've got to have a dream. When you lose your dreams, you die.

We have so many people walking around who are dead and don't even know it!"

3- "There is a huge difference between growing older and growing up. If you are nineteen years old and lie in bed for one full year and don't do one productive thing, you will turn twenty years old. If I am eighty seven years old and stay in bed for a year and never do anything, I will turn eighty-eight. Anybody can grow older. That doesn't take any talent or ability. The idea is to grow up by always finding the opportunity in change."

4- "Have no regrets. The elderly usually don't have regrets for what we did, but rather for things we did not do. The only people who fear death are those with regrets."

She concluded her speech by courageously singing "The Rose." She challenged each of us to study the lyrics and live them out in our daily lives. At year's end, Rose finished the college degree she had begun all those years ago. One week after graduation Rose died peacefully in her sleep. Over two thousand college students attended her funeral in tribute to the wonderful woman who taught by example that it's never too late to be all you are meant to be! Get going!!

True friendship is one soul shared by two bodies.

"Which Are You?"

A daughter complained to her father about her life and how things were so hard for her. She did not know how she was going to make it and wanted to give up. She was tired of fighting and struggling. It seemed as one problem was solved a new one arose.

Her father, a chef, took her to the kitchen. He filled three pots with water and placed each on a high fire. Soon the pots came to a boil.

In one he placed carrots, in the second he placed eggs, and the last he placed ground coffee beans. He let them sit and boil, without saying a word.

The daughter sucked her teeth and impatiently waited, wondering what he was doing. In about twenty minutes he turned off the burners. He fished the carrots out and placed them in a bowl. He pulled the eggs out and placed them a bowl. Then he ladled the coffee out and placed it in a bowl.

Turning to her he asked. "Darling, what do you see?"

"Carrots, eggs, and coffee," she replied.

He brought her closer and asked her to feel the carrots. She did and noted that they were soft. He then asked her to take an egg and break it. After pulling off the shell, she observed the hard-boiled egg. Finally, he asked her to sip the coffee. She smiled as she tasted its rich aroma.

She humbly asked. "What does it mean Father?"

He explained that each of them had faced the same adversity, boiling water, but each reacted differently.

The carrot went in strong, hard, and unrelenting. But after being subjected to the boiling water, it softened and became weak.

The egg had been fragile. Its thin outer shell had protected its liquid interior. But after sitting through the boiling water, its inside became hardened.

The ground coffee beans were unique, however. After they were in the boiling water, they had changed the water.

"Which are you?" he asked his daughter. "When adversity knocks on your door, how do you respond? Are you a carrot, an egg, or a coffee bean?"

Are you the carrot that seems hard, but with pain and adversity do you wilt and become soft and lose your strength?

Are you the egg, which starts off with a malleable heart? Were you a fluid spirit, but after a death, a breakup, a divorce, or a layoff have you become hardened and stiff. Your shell looks the same, but are you bitter and tough with a stiff spirit and heart?

Or are you like the coffee bean? The bean changes the hot water, the thing that is bringing the pain, to its peak flavor reaches 212 degrees Fahrenheit. When the water gets the hottest, it just tastes better.

If you are like the coffee bean, when things are at their worst, you get better and make things better around you.

How do you handle adversity?

Are you a carrot, an egg, or coffee?

The following is something to make us stop
and think. Take this quiz:<UL TYPE=SQUARE>1. Name the five wealthiest people in the world.
2. Name the last five Heisman trophy winners.
3. Name the last five winners of the Miss
America contest.
4. Name ten people who have won the Nobel
or Pulitzer prize.
5. Name the last half dozen Academy Award
winners for best actor and actress.
6. Name the last decade's worth of World
Series winners.
How did you do?

The point is, none of us remember the headliners of yesterday. These are no second-rate achievers. They are the best in their fields. But the applause dies. Awards tarnish. Achievements are forgotten. Accolades and certificates are buried with their owners.

Here's another quiz. See how you do on this one:<UL TYPE=SQUARE>1. List a few teachers who aided your journey through school.
2. Name three friends who have helped you
through a difficult time.
3. Name five people who have taught you
something worthwhile.
4. Think of a few people who have made you
feel appreciated and special.
5. Think of five people you enjoy spending time with.
6. Name half a dozen heroes whose stories have inspired you.
Easier? The lesson?
The people who make a difference in your life
are not the ones with the most credentials, the most money, or the most awards.

They are the ones that care.

People come into your life for a reason, a season, or a lifetime. When you figure out which it is, you know exactly what to do.

When someone is in your life for a REASON, it is usually to meet a need you have expressed outwardly or inwardly. They have come to assist you through a difficulty, to provide you with guidance and support, to aid you physically, emotionally, or spiritually. They may seem like a godsend, and they are. They are there for the reason you need them to be. Then, without any wrong doing on your part or at an inconvenient time, this person will say or do something to bring the relationship to an end.

Sometimes they die. Sometimes they walk away. Sometimes they act up or out and force you to take a stand. What we must realize is that our need has been met, our desire fulfilled; their work is done. The prayer you sent up has been answered and it is now time to move on.

When people come into your life for a \ SEASON, it is because your turn has come to share, grow, or learn. They may bring you an experience of peace or make you laugh. They may teach you something you have never done. They usually give you an unbelievable amount of joy. Believe it! It is real! But, only for a season.

LIFETIME relationships teach you lifetime lessons; those things you must build upon in order to have a solid emotional foundation. Your job is to accept the lesson, love the person/people (anyway); and put what you have learned to use in all other relationships and areas of your life. It is said that love is blind but friendship is clairvoyant.

Thank you for being a part of my life...

Explain God

Written by an 8 year old, Danny Dutton of Chula Vista, CA, for his third
grade homework assignment. The assignment was to explain God.

"One of God's main jobs is making people. He makes them to replace the
ones that die, so there will be enough people to take care of things on
earth. He doesn't make grown-ups, just babies. I think because they are
smaller and easier to make. That way He doesn't have to take up His
valuable time teaching them to talk and walk. He can just leave that to
mothers and fathers.

God's second most important job is listening to prayers. An awful lot of
this goes on, since some people, like preachers and things, pray at
times beside bedtime. God doesn't have time to listen to the radio or TV
because of this. Because He hears everything, there must be a terrible
lot of noise in His ears, unless He has thought of a way to turn it off.

God sees everything and hears everything and is everywhere which keeps
Him pretty busy. So you shouldn't go wasting His time by going over your
mom and dad's head asking for something they said you couldn't have.

Atheists are people who don't believe in God. I don't think there are
any in Chula Vista. At least there aren't any who come to our church.

Jesus is God's Son. He used to do all the hard work like walking on
water and performing miracles and trying to teach the people who didn't
want to learn about God. They finally got tired of Him preaching to them
and they crucified Him. But He was good and kind, like His Father and He
told His Father that they didn't know what they were doing and to
forgive them and God said O.K.

His Dad (God) appreciated everything that He had done and all His hard
work on earth so He told Him He didn't have to go out on the road
anymore. He could stay in heaven. So He did. And now He helps His Dad
out by listening to prayers and seeing things which are important for
God to take care of and which ones He can take care of Himself without
having to bother God. Like a secretary, only more important.

You can pray anytime you want and they are sure to help you because they
got it worked out so one of them is on duty all the time.

You should always go to church on Sunday because it makes God happy, and
if there's anybody you want to make happy, it's God. Don't skip church
to do something you think will be more fun like going to the beach. This
is wrong. And besides the sun doesn't come out at the beach until noon
anyway.

If you don't believe in God, besides being an atheist, you will be very
lonely, because your parents can't go everywhere with you, like to camp,
but God can. It is good to know He's around you when you're scared in
the dark or when you can't swim and you get thrown into real deep water
by big kids.

But...you shouldn't just always think of what God can do for you. I
figure God put me here and He can take me back anytime He pleases.

And...that's why I believe in God."

John 3:16
The Lord is Love and Life to us all...

This refers to the New King James Version (NKJV) of the Bible.

What is the shortest chapter in the Bible? (Answer- Psalms 117)

What is the longest chapter in the Bible? (Answer-Psalms 119)

What chapter is in the center of the Bible? (Answer-Psalms 118)

Fact: There are 594 chapters before Psalms 118

Fact: There are 594 chapters after Psalms 118

Add these numbers up and you get 1188

What is the center verse in the Bible? (Answer- Psalms 118:8)

Does this verse say something significant about God's perfect will for our lives? The next time someone says they would like to find God's perfect will for their lives and that they want to be in the center of His will, just send them to the center of His Word!

Psalms 118:8 (NKJV) "It is better to trust in the LORD than to put confidence in man."

Now isn't that odd how this worked out (or was God in the *center* of it)?

"I Am Thankful For..."

For the teenager who is not doing dishes but is
watching TV, because that means he is at home
and not on the streets.

For the taxes I pay, because it means that I am
employed.

For the mess to clean after a party, because it
means that I have been surrounded by friends.

For the clothes that fit a little too snug, because
it means I have enough to eat.

For my shadow that watches me work, because
it means I am out in the sunshine

for a lawn that needs mowing, windows that need
cleaning, and gutters that need fixing, because it
means I have a home.

For all the complaining I hear about the government,
because it means that we have freedom of speech.

For the parking spot I find at the far end of the parking
lot, because it means I am capable of walking, and
that I have been blessed with transportation.

For my huge heating bill, because it means I am
warm.

For the lady behind me in my place of worship when
she sings off key , because it means that I can hear.

For the pile of laundry and ironing, because it
means I have clothes to wear.

For weariness and aching muscles at the end of
the day, because it means I have been capable
of working hard.

For the alarm that goes off in the early morning
hours, because it means that I am alive

and finally....

For too much e-mail, because it means I have
friends who are thinking of me.

Brownies with a Difference

Many parents are hard pressed to explain to their youth why some music, movies, books, and magazines are not acceptable material for them to bring into the home or to listen to or see. One parent came up with an original idea that is hard to refute.

The father listened to all the reasons his children gave for wanting to see a particular PG-13 movie. It had their favorite actors. Everyone else was seeing it. Even church members said it was great. It was only rated PG-13 because of the suggestion of sex--they never really showed it. The language was pretty good--the Lord's name was only used in vain three times in the whole movie. The teens did admit there was a scene where a building and a bunch of people were blown up, but the violence was just the normal stuff. It wasn't too bad. And, even if there were a few minor things, the special effects were fabulous and the plot was action packed. However, even with all the justifications the teens made for the '13' rating, the father still wouldn't give in. He didn't even give his children a satisfactory explanation for saying, "No." He just said, "No!"

A little later on that evening the father asked his teens if they would like some brownies he had baked. He explained that he'd taken the family's favorite recipe and added a little something new. The children asked what it was. The father calmly replied that he had added dog poop. However, he quickly assured them, it was only a little bit. All other ingredients were gourmet quality and he had taken great care to bake the brownies at the precise temperature for the exact time. He was sure the brownies would be superb.

Even with their father's promise that the brownies were of almost perfect quality, the teens would not take any. The father acted surprised. After all, it was only one small part that was causing them to be so stubborn. He was certain they would hardly notice it. Still the teens held firm and would not try the brownies.

The father then told his children how the movie they wanted to see was just like the brownies. Our minds are used to believing that just a little bit of evil won't matter. But, the truth is even a little bit of poop makes the difference between a great treat and something disgusting and totally unacceptable.

The father went on to explain that even though the movie industry would have us believe that most of today's movies are acceptable fare for adults and youth, they are not. Now, when this father's children want to see something that is of questionable material, the father merely asks them if they would like some of his special dog poop brownies.

That closes the subject.

God didn't promise days without pain,
Laughter without sorrow,
Sun without rain, but
He did promise strength for the day,
Comfort for the tears, and
Light for the way.

May today there be peace within you. May you trust God that you are exactly where you are meant to be.

Treasure Every Moment

My brother-in-law opened the bottom drawer of my sister's bureau and lifted out a tissue-wrapped package. "This," he said,"is not a slip. This is lingerie." He discarded the tissue and handed me the slip. It was exquisite, silk, handmade and trimmed with a cobweb of lace. The
price tag with an astronomical figure on it was still attached.

"Jan bought this the first time we went to New York, at least 8 or 9 years ago. She never wore it. She was saving it for a special occasion. Well, I guess this is the occasion."

He took the slip from me and put it on the bed with the other clothes we were taking to the mortician. His hands lingered on the soft material for a moment, then he slammed the drawer shut and turned to me.

"Don't ever save anything for a special occasion. Every day you're alive is a special occasion."

I remembered those words through the funeral and the days that followed when I helped him and my niece attend to all the sad chores that follow an unexpected death. I thought about them on the plane returning to California from the Midwestern town where my sister's family lives.

I thought about all the things that she hadn't seen or heard or done. I thought about the things that she had done without realizing that they
were special. I'm still thinking about his words, and they've changed my life.

I'm reading more and dusting less. I'm sitting on the deck and admiring the view without fussing about the weeds in the garden. I'm spending more time with my family and friends and less time in committee meetings.

Whenever possible, life should be a pattern of experience to savor, not
endure.

I'm trying to recognize these moments now and cherish them. I'm not "saving" anything; we use our good China and crystal for every special
event such as losing a pound, getting the sink unstopped, the first camellia blossom. I wear my good blazer to the market if I feel like it.

My theory is if I look prosperous, I can shell out $28.49 for one small bag of groceries without wincing.

I'm not saving my good perfume for special parties; clerks in hardware
stores and tellers in banks have noses that function as well as my party going friends.

"Someday" and "one of these days" are losing their grip on my vocabulary. If it's worth seeing or hearing or doing, I want to see and hear and do it now. I'm not sure what my sister would've done had she known that she wouldn't be here for the tomorrow we all take for granted.

I think she would have called family members and a few close friends. She might have called a few former friends to apologize and mend fences for past squabbles. I like to think she would have gone out for a Chinese dinner, her favorite food. I'm guessing. I'll never know.

It's those little things left undone that would make me angry if I knew that my hours were limited.

Angry because I put off seeing good friends whom I was going to get in touch with someday.

Angry because I hadn't written certain letters that I intended to write one of these days.

Angry and sorry that I didn't tell my husband and daughter often enough how much I truly love them.

I'm trying very hard not to put off, hold back, or save anything that would add laughter and luster to our lives. And every morning when I open my eyes, I tell myself that every day, every minute, every breath truly is... a gift from God.

This message was originally appended to one of the stories I posted in "Get Your Hankies Ready", but it's message is more properly placed here...

Funny how simple it is for people to trash different ways of living and believing and then wonder why the world is going to hell. Funny how you can send a thousand 'jokes' through e-mail and they spread like wildfire, but when you start sending messages regarding life choices, people think twice about sharing. Funny how the lewd, crude, vulgar and obscene pass freely through cyberspace, but the public discussion of morality is suppressed in the school and workplace. Funny isn't it?

Are you laughing?

Funny how when you go to forward this message, you will not send it to many on your address list because you're not sure what they believe, or what they will think of you for sending it to them.

Funny how we can be more worried about what other people think of us than what we think of ourselves. FUNNY, ISN'T IT?

"Life Is..."

Life is an opportunity, benefit from it.
Life is a beauty, admire it.
Life is a dream, realize it.
Life is a challenge, meet it.
Life is a duty, complete it.
Life is a game, play it.
Life is a promise, fulfill it.
Life is sorrow, overcome it.
Life is a song, sing it.
Life is a struggle, accept it.
Life is a tragedy, confront it.
Life is an adventure, dare it.
Life is luck, make it.
Life is life, fight for it!

Wisdom

1. No one can ruin your day without YOUR permission.
2. Most people will be about as happy, as they decide to be.
3. Others can stop you temporarily, but only you can do it permanently.
4. Whatever you are willing to put up with, is exactly what you will have.
5. Success stops when you do.
6. When your ship comes in. ... make sure you are willing to unload it.
7. You will never "have it all together."
8. Life is a journey...not a destination. Enjoy the trip!
9. The biggest lie on the planet: "When I get what I want, I will? be happy."
10. The best way to escape your problem is to solve it.
11. I've learned that ultimately, 'takers'lose 'givers' win.
12. Life's precious moments don't have value, unless they are shared.
13. If you don't start, it's certain you won't arrive.
14. We often fear the thing we want the most.
15. He or she who laughs......lasts.
16. Yesterday was the deadline for all complaints.
17. Look for opportunities...not guarantees.
18. Life is what's coming....not what was.
19. Success is getting up one more time.
20. Now is the most interesting time of all.
21. When things go wrong.....don't go with them.

1. At least 5 people in this world, love you so much they would die for you.

2. At least 15 people in this world love you, in some way.

3. The only reason anyone would ever hate you is because they want to be just like you.

4. A smile from you can bring happiness to anyone, even if they don'tlike you.

5. Every night, SOMEONE thinks about you before they go to sleep.

6. You mean the world to someone.

7. Without you, someone may not be living.

8. You are special and unique in your own way.

9. Someone that you don't know even exists, loves you.

10. When you make the biggest mistake ever,
something good comes from it.

11. When you think the world has turned it's back on you, take a look; you most likely turned your back on the world.

12. When you think you have no chance at getting what you want, you probably won't get it, but if you believe in yourself, you probably sooner or later will get it.

13. Always remember complements you received; forget about the rude remarks.

14. Always tell someone how you feel about them, you will feel much better when they know.

15. If you have a great friend, take the time to let them know that they are great.

"Life isn't about keeping score. It's not about how many people call you and it's not about who you've dated, are dating, or haven't dated at all. It isn't about who you've kissed, what sport you play, or which guy or girl likes you. It's not about your shoes or your hair or the colour of your skin or where you live or go to school. In fact, it's not about grades, money, clothes, or colleges that accept you or not. Life isn't about if you have lots of friends, or if you are alone, and it's not about how accepted or unaccepted you are. Life just isn't about that. But life is about who you love and who you hurt. It's about how you feel about yourself. It's about trust, happiness, and compassion. It's about sticking up for your friends and replacing inner hate with love. Life is about avoiding jealousy, overcoming ignorance, and building confidence. It's about what you say and what you mean. It's about seeing people for who they are and not what they have. Most of all, it is about choosing to use your life to touch someone else's in a way that could never have been achieved otherwise. These choices are what life's about."-- Nike ad

It was During the Viet Nam conflict, a bunch of soldiers had been on a long hike and they arrived in a town called Siagon. And the next day being Sunday, several of the boys went to Church.

After the Chaplain read the prayer, the text was taken up. Those of the boys who had prayer books took them out, but one boy had only a deck of cards, so he spread them out.

The Sergeant in charge of the boys saw the cards and said, "Soldier, put away those cards." And after the service was over, the soldier was taken prisoner and brought before the Provost Marshall.

The Marshall said, "Sergeant, why have you brought this man here?"

"For playing cards in church, Sir."

"And what have you to say for yourself, son?"

"Much, Sir," the soldier replied.

The Marshall said, "I hope so, for if not I shall punish you severely."

"You see, Sir, I've been on the march for six days. And I had neither a Bible nor a prayer book, but I hope to satisfy you, Sir, with the purity of my intentions.

"You see Sir, When I look at the Ace, it reminds me that there is but one God.

"And when I see the Deuce it reminds me that the Bible is divided into two parts, the Old and the New Testaments.

"And when I see I see the Trey, I think of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost.

"And when I see the Four, I think of the four Evangelists who preached the Gospel; they were Matthew, Mark, Luke and John.

"And when I see the Five, it reminds me of the five wise virgins who trimmed their lamps; there was ten of them: five were wise and were saved, five were foolish and were shut out.

"And when I see the Six, it reminds me that in six days, God made this great heaven and earth.

"And when I see the Seven, it reminds me that on the seventh day, God rested.

"And when I see the Eight, I think of the eight righteous persons God saved when He destroyed this earth; there was Noah, his wife, their three sons and their wives.

"And when I see the Nine, I think of the lepers our Savior cleansed, and nine out of the ten didn't even thank Him.

"And when I see the Ten, I think of the Ten Commandments God handed down to Moses on a table of stone.

"And when I see the King, it reminds me once again that there is but one King of Heaven, God Almighty.

"And when I see the Queen, I think of the Blessed Virgin Mary, who is Queen of Heaven.

"And the Jack, the knave, is the Devil.

"And when I count the number of spots on a deck of cards, I find 365, the number of days in a year.

"There are 52 cards, the number of weeks in a year.

"There are 13 tricks, the number of weeks in a quarter.

"There are 4 suits, the number of weeks in a month.

"There are 12 picture cards, the number of months in a year.

"So you see, Sir, my deck of cards serves me as a Bible, an Almanac and a Prayer Book."

"And friends, this story is true. Because my son was, that soldier was me."

A woman was at work when she received a phone call from the baby sitter that her daughter was very sick with a fever. She left her work and stopped by the pharmacy to get some medication for her daughter. Upon returning to her car, she found she had locked her keys in the car. She was in a hurry to get home to her sick daughter and didn't know what to do, so she called and told the baby sitter what had happened. The baby sitter told her that her daughter was getting worse. She told the woman, "You might find a coat hanger and use it to open the door."
The woman looked around and found an old rusty coat hanger that had been thrown down on the ground...possibly by someone who at some time or other had locked their keys in the car. But she didn't know how to use the hanger. She bowed her head and asked God to send her some help.

Within five minutes an old rusty car pulled up, with a dirty, greasy, bearded man who was wearing an old biker skull rag on his head. The woman thought, "THIS is what You sent to help me?" But she was desperate, so she tried to be thankful. The man got out of his car and asked her if he could help. She said, "Yes! My daughter is very sick. I stopped to get her some medication and I locked my keys in my car. I must get home to her. Please, can you use this hanger to unlock my car?" "Sure!" he said. He walked over to the car, and in less than a minute the car was opened.

She hugged the man and through her tears she said, "Thank you so much! You are a very nice man." The man replied, "Lady, I am not a nice man. I just got out of prison today. I was in prison for car theft and I've only been out for about an hour." The woman hugged the man again and with sobbing tears she cried out loud... "Thank you, Lord, for sending me a professional!

Another Lesson in Life

A while back I was reading about an expert on subject of time management. One day this expert was speaking to a group of business students and, to drive home a point, used an illustration those students will never forget.

As this man stood in front of the group of high-powered overachievers he said, "Okay, time for a quiz."

Then he pulled out a one-gallon, wide-mouthed mason jar and set it on a table in front of him. Then he produced about a dozen fist-sized rocks and carefully placed them, one at a time, into the jar.

When the jar was filled to the top and no more rocks would fit inside, he asked, "Is this jar full?" Everyone in the class said, "Yes."

Then he said, "Really?" He reached under the table and pulled out a bucket of gravel. Then he dumped some gravel in and shook the jar causing pieces of gravel to work themselves down into the spaces between the big rocks.

Then he asked the group once more, "Is the jar full?"

By this time the class was onto him. "Probably not," one of them answered. "Good!" he replied.

He reached under the table and brought out a bucket of sand. He started dumping the sand in and it went into all the spaces left between the rocks and the gravel. Once more he asked the question, "Is this jar full?"

"No!" the class shouted. Once again he said, "Good!" Then he grabbed a pitcher of water and began to pour it in until the jar was filled to the brim. Then he looked up at the class and asked, "What is the point of this illustration?"

One eager beaver raised his hand and said, "The point is, no matter
how full your schedule is, if you try really hard, you can always fit
some more things into it!"

"No," the speaker replied, "that's not the point. The truth this
illustration teaches us is: If you don't put the big rocks in first,
you'll never get them in at all."

What are the 'big rocks' in your life?

A project that YOU want to accomplish? Time with your loved ones?

Your faith, your education, your finances? A cause?

Teaching or mentoring others?

Remember to put these BIG ROCKS in first or you'll never get them in
at all.

So, tonight or in the morning when you are reflecting on this short
story, ask yourself this question: What are the 'big rocks' in my life
or business?

Then, put those in your jar first.

"Slow Down Therapy"

1. Slow down; God is still in heaven. You are not responsible for doing it all yourself, right now.

2. Remember a happy, peaceful time in your past. Rest there. Each moment has richness that takes a lifetime to savor.

3. Set your own pace. When someone is pushing you, it's OK to tell them they're pushing.

4. Take nothing for granted: watch water flow, the corn grow, the leaves blow, your neighbor mow.

5. Taste your food. God gives it to delight as well as to nourish.

6. Notice the sun and the moon as they rise and set. They are remarkable for their steady pattern of movement, not their speed.

7. Quit planning how you're going to use what you know, learn, or possess. God's gifts just are; be grateful and their purpose will be clear.

8. When you talk with someone, don't think about what you'll say next. Thoughts will spring up naturally if you let them.

9. Talk and play with children. It will bring out the unhurried little person inside you.

10. Create a place in your home...at your work...in your heart...where you can go for quiet and recollection. You deserve it.

11. Allow yourself time to be lazy and unproductive. Rest isn't luxury; it's a necessity.

12. Listen to the wind blow. It carries a message of yesterday and tomorrow-and now. NOW counts.

13. Rest on your laurels. They bring comfort whatever their size, age, or condition.

14. Talk slower. Talk less. Don't talk. Communication isn't measured by words.

15. Give yourself permission to be late sometimes. Life is for living, not scheduling.

16. Listen to the song of a bird; the complete song. Music and nature are gifts, but only if you are willing to receive them.

17. Take time just to think. Action is good and necessary, but it's fruitful only if we muse, ponder, and mull.

18. Make time for play-the things you like to do. Whatever your age, your inner child needs re-creation.

19. Watch and listen to the night sky. It speaks.

20. Listen to the words you speak, especially in prayer.

21. Learn to stand back and let others take their turn as leaders. There will always be new opportunities for you to step out in front again.

22. Divide big jobs into little jobs. If God took six days to create the universe, can you hope to do any better?

23. When you find yourself rushing and anxious, stop. Ask yourself "WHY?" you are rushing and anxious. The reasons may improve your self-understanding.

24. Take time to read the Bible. Thoughtful reading is enriching reading.

25. Direct your life with purposeful choices, not with speed and efficiency. The best musician is one who plays with expression and meaning, not the one who finishes first.

26. Take a day off alone; make a retreat. You can learn from monks and hermits without becoming one.

27. Pet a furry friend. You will give and get the gift of now.

28. Work with your hands. It frees the mind.

29. Take time to wonder. Without wonder, life is merely existence.

30. Sit in the dark. It will teach you to see and hear, taste and smell.

31. Once in a while, turn down the lights, the volume, the throttle, the invitations. Less really can be more.

32. Let go. Nothing is usually the hardest thing to do - but often it is the best.

33. Take a walk-but don't go anywhere. If you walk just to get somewhere, you sacrifice the walking.

34. Count your friends. If you have one, you are lucky. If you have more, you are blessed. Bless them in return.

35. Count your blessings - one at a time and slowly.

Friends and Friends

"You have very few friends in life, and those who say they're your friends--many of them are not your friends." Mayor Daley in an interview quoted.

There are friends with a little "f" and friends with a big "F."

The first is a large group with sloppy admission standards, the other an elite, time-tested crew.

W H A T ' S T H E D I F F E R E N C E ?

A little "f" friend: identifies themselves when they call.
A big "F" Friend: doesn't have to.

A little "f" friend: opens a conversation with a full news bulletin on their life.
A big "F" Friend: says, "What's new with you?"

A little "f" friend: thinks the problems you whine about are recent.
A big "F" Friend: says, "You've been whining about the same thing for 14 years. Get off your duff and do something about it."

A little "f" friend: has never seen you cry.
A big "F" Friend: has shoulders soggy from your tears.

A little "f" friend: knows almost nothing about your family.
A big "F" Friend: knows the medical history, dietary habits and marital troubles of everyone on your tree.

A little "f" friend: calls you at 10 p.m. just to chat.
A big "F" Friend: knows you hate to be called after 9 p.m.

A little "f" friend: wonders about your romantic history.
A big "F" Friend: could blackmail you with it.

A little "f" friend: when visiting, they act like a guest.
A big "F" Friend: when visiting, they open your refrigerator, put their feet on the sofa, talk back to your spouse and reprimand your children.

A little "f" friend: thinks the friendship is over when you argue.
A big "F" Friend: knows that a friendship's not a friendship until you've had a fight.

"A Story Of Four Wives"

Once upon a time...there was a rich King who had four wives.
He loved the fourth wife the most and adorned her with rich
robes and treated her to the finest of delicacies. He gave
her nothing but the best.

He also loved the third wife very much, and he was always
showing her off to neighboring kingdoms. However, he feared
that one day she would leave him for another.

He also loved his second wife. She was his confidante and
was always kind, considerate, and patient with him. Whenever
the King faced a problem, he could confide in her to help
him get through the difficult times.

The King's first wife was a very loyal partner and had made
great contributions in maintaining his wealth and kingdom.
However, he did not love the first wife and although she
loved him deeply, he hardly took notice of her.

One day, the King fell ill, and he knew his time was short.
He thought of his luxurious life and pondered, "I now have
four wives with me, but when I die, I'll be all alone.

Thus, he asked the fourth wife, "I have loved you the most,
endowed you with the finest clothing, and showered great
care over you. Now that I'm dying, will you follow me and
keep me company?" "Absolutely not!" replied the fourth wife,
and she walked away without another word. Her answer cut
like a sharp knife right into his heart.

The sad King then asked the third wife, "I have loved you
all my life. Now that I'm dying, will you follow me and keep
me company?" "No," replied the third wife. "Life is too
good! When you die, I'm going to remarry!" His heart sank
and turned cold.

He then asked the second wife, "I have always turned to you
for help, and you've always been there for me. When I die,
will you follow me and keep me company?" "I'm sorry, I can't
help you out this time," replied the second wife. "At the
very most, I can only send you to your grave." Her answer
came like a bolt of thunder, and the King was devastated.

Then a voice called out. "I'll leave with you and follow you
no matter where you go." The King looked up, and there was
his first wife. She was so sad and thin, she looked
half-starved. Greatly grieved, the King said, "I should have
taken much better care of you when I had the chance!"

In truth, we all have four wives in our lives: Our fourth
wife is our body. No matter how much time and effort we
lavish in making it look good, it'll leave us when we die.

Our third wife is our possessions, status, and wealth. When
we die, it will all go to others.

Our second wife is our family and friends. No matter how
much they have been there for us, the furthest they can stay
by us is up to the grave.

And our first wife is our soul, often neglected in pursuit
of wealth, power, and pleasures of the ego. However, our
soul is the only thing that will follow us wherever we go.
So cultivate, strengthen, and cherish it now! It IS your
greatest gift to offer the world.

God's Wings

An article in National Geographic several years ago provided a
penetrating picture of God's wings. After a forest fire in Yellowstone National
Park, forest rangers began their trek up a mountain to assess the
inferno's damage.
One ranger found a bird literally petrified in ashes, perched
statuesquely on the ground at the base of a tree.

Somewhat sickened by the eerie sight, he knocked over the bird with
a stick.

When he gently struck it, three tiny chicks scurried from under
their dead mother's wings. The loving mother, keenly aware of impending
disaster, had carried her offspring to the base of the tree and had gathered them
under her wings, instinctively knowing that the toxic smoke would rise.
She could have flown to safety but had refused to abandon her babies.

Then the blaze had arrived, and the heat had scorched her small body, the mother
had remained steadfast. Because she had been willing to die, those under the
cover of her wings would live.

"He will cover you with his feathers, and under
his wings you will find refuge." (Psalm 91:4).

Being loved this much should make a difference in your life.
Remember the One who loves you, and then be different because of it.

Please pass this on to others you care about and don't drive faster
than your Guardian Angel can fly.

There was this old women sitting by herself in the park. Everyone
passed by her and never stopped to see why she looked so sad. Dressed in a worn pink
dress, barefoot and dirty, the woman just sat and watched the people go by.
She never tried to speak. She never said a word. Many people passed by her, but no one would stop. The next day I decided to go back to the park in curiosity to see if the women would still be there. Yes, she was there, right in the very spot where she was yesterday, and still with the
same pink dress and sad look in her eyes. Today I was to make my own move. I decided to walk over to the woman. For as we all know, a park full of strange people
is not a place for old women to just sit alone. As I got closer I could
see the back of the women's dress was grotesquely shaped. I figured that was the reason people just passed by and made no effort to speak to her.
Deformities are a low blow to our society and, heaven forbid if you make a step toward
assisting someone who is different. As I got closer, the woman lowered her eyes slightly to avoid my intent stare. As I approached her, I could see
the shape of her back more clearly. She was grotesquely shaped in a humped-over form. I smiled to let her know it was OK; I was there to help, to talk.I
sat down beside her and opened with a simple, "Hello". The woman
acted shocked, and stammered a "hi," after a long stare into my eyes. I smiled and she shyly smiled back. We talked until darkness fell and the park was completely empty. As we talked I asked the women why she was so sad.
The woman looked at me with a sad face and said, "Because I'm different".
I immediately said, "That you are!" and smiled. The woman then acted even sadder and said, "I know". "Miss," I said, "you remind me of an angel, sweet and innocent." She looked at me and smiled, then slowly she got to her
feet and said, "Really?" "Yes, you're like a beautiful Guardian Angel sent to watch over all those people walking by". She nodded her head yes, and smiled. With that she opened the back of her pink dress and allowed her
wings to spread, then she said "I am. I'm your Guardian Angel," with a twinkle in her eye. I was speechless -- sure I was seeing things.
She said, "for once you thought of someone other than yourself! My job here is done." I got to my feet and said,"Wait, why did no one stop to help an angel?" She looked at me, smiled, and said, "You're the only one that could see me," and then she was gone. And
with that, my life was changed dramatically. So, when you think you're all you have, remember, your angel is always watching over you!
Pass this to everyone that means anything at all to you. Make sure
you send it back to the person who sent it to you, to let them know you're glad they care about you. Like the story says, we all need someone.. Every one of your friends is an Angel in their own way. The value of a friend is
measured in the heart. Keep smiling. It looks good on you!

"Words To Live By"

Never buy a coffee table you can't put your feet on.

Believe in miracles, but don't depend on them.

Don't forget that we are ultimately judged by what we give, not by what we get.

When you hear a kind word spoken about a friend, tell him/her so.

Don't work for recognition, but do work worthy of recognition.

Start the standing ovation at the end of school plays.

When someone lets you down, don't give up on him.

Ask yourself if what you're doing today is getting you closer to where you want to be tomorrow.

Remember that nothing important was ever achieved without someone's taking a chance.

When a friend is in need, help him without his having to ask.

When someone gives you something, never say, "You shouldn't have."

Remember that cruel words deeply hurt.

Remember that loving words quickly heal.

Frame anything your child brings home on his first day of school.

Seek respect rather than popularity.
Seek quality rather than luxury.
Seek refinement rather than fashion.

Never be too busy to meet someone new.

Remember that when your mom says, "You'll regret it," you probably will.

Never let the odds keep you from pursuing what you know in your heart you were meant to do.

To help your children turn out well, spend twice as much time with them and half as much money.

Remember that life's most treasured moments often come unannounced.

When you see someone sitting alone on a bench, make it a point to speak to her.

Be willing to accept a temporary inconvenience for a permanent improvement.

Protect your enthusiasm from the negativity of others.

Remember, it's not your job to get people to like you; it's your job to like people.

Rebuild a broken relationship.

The Pink Dress

There was this little girl sitting by herself in the park. Everyone passed by her and never stopped to see why she looked so sad. Dressed in a worn pink dress, barefoot and dirty, the girl just sat and watched the people go by. She never tried to speak. She never said a word.

Many people passed by her, but no one would stop. The next day I decided to go back to the park in curiosity to see if the little girl would still be there. Yes, she was there, right in the very spot where she was yesterday, and still with the same sad look in her eyes.

Today I was to make my own move and walk over to the little girl. For as we all know, a park full of strange people is not a place for young children to play alone. As I got closer I could see the back of the little girl's dress was grotesquely shaped. I figured that was the reason people just passed by and made no effort to speak to her. Deformities are a low blow to our society and, heaven forbid if you make a step toward assisting someone who is different.

As I got closer, the little girl lowered her eyes slightly to avoid my intent stare. As I approached her, I could see the shape of her back more clearly.

She was grotesquely shaped in a humped over form. I smiled to let her know it was OK; I was there to help, to talk. I sat down beside her and opened with a simple, "hello";

The little girl acted shocked, and stammered a "hi"; after a long stare into my eyes. I smiled and she shyly smiled back. We talked until darkness fell and the park was completely empty. I asked the girl why she was so sad.

The little girl looked at me with a sad face said, "Because, I'm different"; I immediately said, "That you are!"; and smiled. The little girl acted even sadder and said, "I know."

"Little girl," I said, "you remind me of an angel, sweet and innocent"; She looked at me and smiled, then slowly she got to her feet and said, "really?";

"Yes, you're like a little Guardian Angel sent to watch over all those people walking by"; She nodded her head yes, and smiled. With that she opened the back of her pink dress and allowed her wings to spread,
then she said "I am. I'm your Guardian Angel"; with a twinkle in her eye. I was speechless -- sure I was seeing things.

She said, "For once you thought of someone other than yourself. My job here is done"; I got to my feet and said, "Wait, why did no one stop to help an angel?"

She looked at me, smiled, and said, "Your the only one that could see me"; and then she was gone. And with that, my life was changed dramatically. So, when you think you're all you have, remember, your angel is always watching over you.

Like the story says, we all need someone. Every one of your friends is an Angel in their own way. The value of a friend is measured in the heart.

I hope your Guardian Angel watches over you always.

Eternal Ink
Author Unknown

I dreamed I was in heaven
Where an angel kept God's book.
He was writing so intently
I just had to take a look.

It was not, at first, his writing
That made me stop and think
But the fluid in the bottle
That was marked eternal ink.

This ink was most amazing,
Dark black upon his blotter
But as it touched the parchment
It became as clear as water.

The angel kept on writing,
But as quickly as a wink
The words were disappearing
With that strange eternal ink.

The angel took no notice,
But kept writing on and on.
He turned each page and filled it
Till all its space was gone.

I thought he wrote to no avail,
His efforts were so vain
For he wrote a thousand pages
That he'd never read again.

And as I watched and wondered that
This awesome sight was mine,
I actually saw a word stay black
As it dried upon the line.

The angel wrote and I thought I saw
A look of satisfaction.
At last he had some print to show
For all his earnest action.

A line or two dried dark and stayed
As black as black can be,
But strangely the next paragraph
Became invisible to see.

The book was getting fuller,
The angel's records true,
But most of it was blank, with
Just a few words coming through.

I knew there was some reason,
But as hard as I could think,
I couldn't grasp the significance
Of that eternal ink.

The mystery burned within me,
And I finally dared to ask
The angel to explain to me
Of his amazing task.

And what I heard was frightful
As the angel turned his head.
He looked directly at me,
And this is what he said...

I know you stand and wonder
At what my writing's worth
But God has told me to record
The lives of those on earth.

The book that I am filling
Is an accurate account
Of every word and action
And to what they do amount.

And since you have been watching
I must tell you what is true;
The details of my journal
Are the strict accounts of YOU.

The Lord asked me to watch you
As each day you worked and played.
I saw you as you went to church,
I saw you as you prayed.

But I was told to document
Your life through all the week.
I wrote when you were proud and bold,
I wrote when you were meek.

I recorded all your attitudes
Whether they were good or bad.
I was sorry that I had to write
The things that make God sad.

So now I'll tell the wonder
Of this eternal ink,
For the reason for its mystery
Should make you stop and think.

This ink that God created
To help me keep my journal
Will only keep a record of
Things that are eternal.

So much of life is wasted
On things that matter not
So instead of my erasing,
Smudging ink and ugly blot.

I just keep writing faithfully and
Let the ink do all the rest
For it is able to decide
What's useless and what's best.

And God ordained that as I write
Of all you do and say
Your deeds that count for nothing
Will just disappear away.

When books are opened someday,
As sure as heaven is true;
The Lord's eternal ink will tell
What mattered most to you.

If you just lived to please yourself
The pages will be bare,
And God will issue no reward
For you when you get there.

In fact, you'll be embarrassed,
You will hang your head in shame
Because you did not give yourself
In love to Jesus' Name.

Yet maybe there will be a few
Recorded lines that stayed
That showed the times you truly cared,
Sincerely loved and prayed.

But you will always wonder
As you enter heaven's door
How much more glad you would have been
If only you'd done more.

For I record as God sees,
I don't stop to even think
Because the truth is written
With God's eternal ink.

When I heard the angel's story
I fell down and wept and cried
For as yet I still was dreaming
I hadn't really died.

And I said: O angel tell the Lord
That soon as I awake
I'll live my life for Jesus-
I'll do all for His dear sake.

I'll give in full surrender;
I'll do all He wants me to;
I'll turn my back on self and sin
And whatever isn't true.

And though the way seems long and rough
I promise to endure.
I'm determined to pursue the things
That are holy, clean and pure.

With Jesus as my helper,
I will win lost souls to Thee,
For I know that they will live with Christ
For all eternity.

And that's what really matters
When my life on earth is gone
That I will stand before the Lord
And hear Him say, well done.

For is it really worth it
As my life lies at the brink?
And I realize that God keeps books
With His eternal ink.

Should all my life be focused
On things that turn to dust?
From this point on I'll serve the Lord;
I can, I will, I must!

I will NOT send blank pages
Up to God's majestic throne
For where that record's going now
Is my eternal home.

I'm giving all to Jesus
I now have seen the link
For I saw an angel write my life
With God's eternal ink.

Life's Little Lessons
=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-

Give people more than they expect and do it cheerfully.

Marry a man/woman you love to talk to. As you get older, their
conversational skills will be as important as any other.

Don't believe all you hear, spend all you have or sleep all you
want.

When you say, "I love you", mean it.

When you say, "I'm sorry", look the person in the eye.

Be engaged at least six months before you get married.

Believe in love at first sight.

Never laugh at anyone's dreams. People who don't have dreams don't
have much.

Love deeply and passionately. You might get hurt but it's the only
way to live life completely.

In disagreements, fight fairly. No name calling.

Don't judge people by their relatives.

Talk slowly but think quickly.

When someone asks you a question you don't want to answer,
smile and ask, "Why do you want to know?"

Remember that great love and great achievements involve great
risk.

Say "bless you" when you hear someone sneeze.

When you lose, don't lose the lesson.

Remember the three R's: Respect for self; Respect for others;
Responsibility for all your actions.

Don't let a little dispute injure a great friendship.

When you realize you've made a mistake, take immediate steps to
correct it.

Smile when picking up the phone. The caller will hear it in your
voice.

Spend some time alone.

Work like you don't need the money.

Love like you've never been hurt.

Dance like no one is watching.

"36 Stress Reducers"

1. Pray

2. Go to bed on time.

3. Get up early so you can start the day unrushed.

4. Say No, to projects that won't fit into your time schedule, or that will compromise your mental health.

5. Delegate tasks to capable others.

6. Simplify and unclutter your life.

7. Less is more. (Although one is often not enough, two are often too many.)

8. Allow extra time to do things and to get to places.

9. Pace yourself. Spread out big changes and difficult projects over time; don't lump the hard things all together.

10. Take one day at a time.

11. Separate worries from concerns. If a situation is a concern, find out what God would have you to do and let go of the anxiety. If you can't do anything about a situation, forget it.

12. Live within your budget; don't use credit cards for ordinary purchases.

13. Have backups; an extra car key in your wallet, an extra house key buried in the garden, etc.

14. K.M.S. (Keep Mouth Shut.) This single piece of advice can prevent an enormous amount of trouble.

15. Do something for the Kid in You everyday.

16. Carry a bible with you to read while waiting in line.

17. Get enough exercise.

18. Eat right.

19. Get organized so everything has its place.

20. Listen to a tape while driving that can help improve your quality of life.

21. Write thoughts and inspirations down.

22. Everyday, find time to be alone.

23. Having problems? Talk to God on the spot. Try to nip small problems in the bud. Don't wait until its time to go to bed to try and pray.

24. Make friends with Godly people.

25. Keep a folder of favorite scriptures on hand.

26. Remember that the shortest bridge between despair and hope is often a good "Thank you, Lord!"

27. Laugh.

28. Laugh some more!

29. Take your work seriously, but not yourself.

30. Develop a forgiving attitude (just realize that most people are doing the best they can).

31. Be kind to unkind people (they probably need it the most).

32. Sit on your ego.

33. Talk less; listen more.

34. Slow down.

35. Remind yourself that you are not the general manager of the universe.

36. Every night before bed, think of one thing you're grateful for that you've never been grateful for before.

The more you give, the more you get
The more you do unselfishly
The more you live abundantly.
The more of everything you share,
The more you laugh, the less you fret.
The more you'll always have to spare.
The more you love, the more you'll find
That life is good and friends are kind.
For only what we give away,
Enriches us from day to day.

"What I Am Thankful For..."

I am Thankful for...
...the mess to clean after a party because it means I have been surrounded by friends.

I am Thankful for...
...the taxes I pay because it means that I'm employed.

I am Thankful for...
...the clothes that fit a little too snug because it means I have enough to eat.

I am Thankful for...
...my shadow who watches me work because it means I am out in the sunshine.

I am Thankful for...
...a lawn that needs mowing, windows that need cleaning and gutters that need fixing because it means I have a home.

I am Thankful for...
...all the complaining I hear about our government because it means we have freedom of speech.

I am Thankful for...
...the spot I find at the far end of the parking lot because it means I am capable of walking.

I am Thankful for...
...my huge heating bill because it means I am warm.

I am Thankful for...
...the lady behind me in church who sings off-key because it means that I can hear.

I am Thankful for...
...the piles of laundry and ironing because it means my loved ones are nearby.

I am Thankful for...
...weariness and aching muscles at the end of the day because it means I have been productive.

I am Thankful for...
...the alarm that goes off in the early morning hours because it means that I'm alive.

I am also Thankful for all of YOU!

Instructions For A Happy Life

Give people more than they expect and do it cheerfully.

Don't believe all you hear.

When you say, "I love you", mean it.

When you say, "I'm sorry", look the person in the eye.

Be engaged at least six months before you get married.

Believe in love at first sight.

Don't let a little dispute injure a great friendship.

When you realize you've made a mistake, take immediate steps to correct it.

Smile when picking up the phone, the caller will hear it in your voice.

Treat other's the way you want to be treated!

If I Had My Life To Live Over...

I would have gone to bed when I was sick instead of pretending the earth would go into a holding pattern if I weren't there for the day.

I would have talked less and listened more.

I would have invited friends over to dinner even if the carpet was stained, or the sofa faded.

I would have taken the time to listen to my grandfather ramble about his youth.

I would never have insisted the car windows be rolled up on a summer day because my hair had just been teased and sprayed.

There would have been more "I love you's."

...But mostly, given another shot at life, I would sieze every minute...look at it and really see it .... live it...and never give it back.

Stop sweating the small stuff. Don't worry about who doesn't like you, who has more, or who's doing what. Instead, let's cherish the relationships we have with those who do love us.

Let's think about what God HAS blessed us with. And what we are doing each day to promote ourselves mentally, physically, emotionally, as well as spiritually. Life is too short to let it pass you by. We only have one shot at this and then it's gone.

I hope you all have a blessed day.

Before I was a Mom...

I made and ate hot meals.
I had unstained clothing.
I had quiet conversations on the phone.

Before I was a Mom...
I slept as late as I wanted
And never worried about how late I got into bed.
I brushed my hair and my teeth everyday.

Before I was a Mom...
I cleaned my house each day.
I never tripped over toys or forgot words to lullabies.

Before I was a Mom...
I didn't worry whether or not my plants were poisonous.
I never thought about immunizations.

Before I was a Mom...
I had never been puked on
Pooped on
Spit on
Chewed on
Pee'd on
Or pinched by tiny fingers

Before I was a Mom...
I had complete control of my thoughts
My body
My mind.
I slept all night.

Before I was a Mom...
I never held down a screaming child
So that doctors could do tests or give shots.
I never looked into teary eyes and cried.
I never got gloriously happy over a simple grin.
I never sat up late hours at night watching a baby sleep.

Before I was a Mom...
I never held a sleeping baby just because I didn't want to put him down.
I never felt my heart break into a million pieces when I couldn't stop the hurt.
I never knew that something so small could affect my life so much.
I never knew that I could love someone so much.
I never knew I would love being a Mom.

Before I was a Mom...
I didn't know the feeling of having my heart outside my body.
I didn't know how special it could feel to feed a hungry baby.
I didn't know that bond between a Mother and her child.
I didn't know that something so small could make me feel so important.

Before I was a Mom...
I had never gotten up in the middle of the night every 10 minutes to make sure all was okay
I had never known the warmth
The joy
The love
The heartache
The wonderfulment
Or the satisfaction of being a Mom.
I didn't know I was capable of feeling so much...

... before I was a Mom.

Hand Of Time

The hand of time is the palm of creation.
To see the world is perfection.
Just to rest in His hand and see that power;
God of Abraham, I need thee every hour.
A world made for you and I,
How awesome the heavens and sky.
Oh God, you never left me. This I know.
You created a masterpiece, a world to show.
Father, that gentle hand, time ticks on.
Am I worthy to be? You did this for me.
"Someday, my God," I say in prayer,
"Hours run out, and with you I'll be there.
This is my reason for living, oh Christ, the King."
I adore my Lord; He's in control of everything.
Oceans, mountains, in you hand a sight to behold.
My Father I wish to see, but that light so bright.
Rest in my hand. Here, time does not exist.
A time to be at peace, as the heavy morning mist;
Peace beyond the rainbow, sights never seen.
Hand of time is never, all is so perfect and clean.
God, to never be plucked from your hand.
All you ask is for me to love you, on solid rock I stand.
A world damaged by man and you let it be.
God said, "Yes. Stay awhile. Then come and join me."
Heaven is a heartbeat away;
To rest in this hand, forever to stay.
My Lord, my King, you did all this for me.
To look beyond time, my friend, is eternity.

THE ART OF HOLDING HANDS

Some say it's old fashioned.
Some say it's a necessity in a world of insecurity. Other's just
simply call it romantic.
Holding hands.
I love to see people holding hands. It's such a powerful statement to
the world. One that screams, "She's mine!" or "He's with me!"
I can't say that I see it much any more. I pride myself in noticing
the romance in life. I get chills when I see an unusual marriage proposal
played out on television. But these outward signs of love seem to be
disappearing.
I remember driving down the road and having my girl sitting next to me
in the car. I mean right next to me. I saw a couple that close yesterday
and thought, "Oh, my God she's not wearing a seat belt?" I was mad at the
guy for permitting this.
But I love to see older couples walking together holding hands. I met
one such couple yesterday on my return trip home. Yes, I stopped at a
mall. It seems my life is spent there. When I travel, I visit the local
mall just to spend some time, get a little exercise and of course watch and
meet people.
This day I met Art and Lilly.
I couldn't help but watch them as they strolled past the stores,
pausing every once in a while to giggle and kiss like two young love birds.
And they were holding hands. In fact, swinging their arms like two love
sick teens. I absolutely loved it. I had to say hello.
"I must tell you how refreshing it is to see the two of you so much in
love," I said.
"Oh, you can tell?" Art laughed.
"How long have you been together?" I asked.
"Forever!" Lilly said. "I believe we were meant to be from the
beginning of time. It was God's plan."
"I noticed you holding hands. I don't see that too much any more.
It's so romantic," I said.
"Well, we just don't hold hands. We connect our spirits. There's a
real science to it, you know," said Art.
"I never realized that," I said.
"Well, there are different types of hand holding," he said and went on
to explain.
"One is like this, where you just wrap your hands around each other's.
Then there's the hand hold and arm hug, where you bring her close and pull
your hands in front of you like this," he said as he demonstrated.
"Of course there's the hold where you intertwine your fingers," Lilly
said and then giggled like a kid.
"Then the real romantic one is when you reach for her hand and just
before your grasp it, you gently pull it up and kiss it. Just like in the
old days," said Art.
"And the swing? I saw you swinging your arms as you walked along," I said.
"Oh, that's just fun, goofy stuff. That's when we are just being
silly. If we could still skip, we would," said Lilly. Then they actually
tried. They stopped after one or two and just laughed. They were both so
very happy.
"You know I'm going to write about this. I send out stories to
friends I've never met on the Internet," I told them.
"Oh, the Internet," sighed Art. "That's the problem, you know.
People spend much too much time at home in front of computer games, videos,
and the Internet. You can't hold hands with a computer between you," he
said.
"No, but I can touch hearts. I will when I share your story with
them," I said.
"Do me a favor," Lilly asked.
"Yes, my young love birds," I said. They laughed.
"Call your story, The Art of Holding Hands! He's the best," she said.
They kissed, and then strolled away hand in hand. And one more time, they
turned to me and did a little skip as they started swinging their arms.
And yes, they laughed.
They truly knew, "The Art of Holding Hands."

"What's it like up there?"
By Bob Perks
Bob@BobPerks.com
Little "j" had been struggling all of his life just to survive. At the ripe old age of ten, he was facing challenges that would break the will of a grown adult. He was small for his age. That all started when he was born. Even his name implied that. His Dad was Jay, Sr. So he decided to sign his name simply "j" signifying "Little Jay."
Unhealthy from birth, Little "j" fought and won every battle he faced. Through the years each battle chipped away at his life. Gradually, it took it's toll on his ability to recover quickly. The drugs that were pumped into his system weakened him to the point that almost anything would change the odds of his recovery. Little "j" had been battling Asthma for the past two years. Asthma would win this fight.
At ten "j" had accepted the fact that he may never become an adult. His spirit was unbreakable and his wisdom well beyond his years.
"How far does space go?" he asked his Mom.
"Boy, that's a tough one. No one really knows," she replied.
"Why can't you see the words we say flying between cell phones?" he asked.
His dad laughed at that one.
"You're asking me that because you know I work for a cell phone company. I am sorry to say I can't answer it." Dad replied. "But it has something to do with signals."
Dad knew that wouldn't satisfy him, but "j" never stopped asking questions. He had a natural curiosity for life. Those who knew him best said it was because he was aware that his time to learn everything life had to offer
might be shorter than most.
Little "j" loved to blow bubbles. His doctor taught him to use them to practice his breathing techniques and to strengthen his lungs. One day while sitting with his Dad in the yard he asked, "What's it like up there?"
"Up where?" Dad asked.
"Up there where you are, as an adult," he said. "Up there where the bubbles go. What's it like when you finally grow up?"
"To tell you the truth, I'm still waiting to find out," Dad said with a smile.
"Oh, Dad. You know what I mean. I don't think I'll ever have the chance to grow up," "j" said.
"STOP IT!" Dad yelled unintentionally. As much as he knew it was true, he never wanted to waste his time talking about such realities.
"j" I'm sorry," Dad said as he knelt down in front of him. "You know I don't want to waste all the precious time God gives us talking about negative things. I still believe in miracles and God's hand will touch our lives in ways we may never expect."
But this became Little "j's" personal mission. Every new adult he met he would ask, "What's it like up there?" Of course after some explanation Little "j" would get some surprising and creative answers. He began to collect them in a journal labeled, "Up there."
Soon, Asthma began it's unrelenting attack. Little by little "j' suffered one terrible breathtaking battle after another. Literally smothering to death, one day at a time, Little "j" never let his spirit be affected.
He loved to visit the mountains just outside the city where he lived.
"I can breathe here," he said. "Besides, when I'm up here in the mountains I feel grown up. I'm big here looking down at the city," he said as he sat at the edge of the highest point.
"Can I just live in a cave with the bears?" he asked as he struggled to smile.
Then one day on a return trip home from his favorite spot in the world, Little "j' had an asthma attack that literally stopped him from breathing until they would pump his lungs with medication from his inhaler. This always worked in the past. But today would be different.
When they rushed him to the hospital, doctors and nurses greeted him at the door. Many were familiar with this young boy's warm and welcoming smile. Through the years he had been treated there many times for various problems. Even as he was struggling to breathe, he joked with them. Lying on the stretcher just inside the emergency room door he choked as he said, "What's it like up there?"
They all knew his familiar question and inquisitive mind very well.
"Well, Little "j' right now being an adult isn't the easiest job in the world. I have the responsibility to save your life," the doctor said as tears puddled in his eyes.
They did all that they could to save him. But Little "j" lost that day to something bigger then he was, Asthma.
After his funeral many of his friends gathered together and headed to his favorite spot in the mountains. They stood nearby while Mom and Dad walked to the edge of the cliff. Much to the delight of those who gathered there, Mom and Dad blew bubbles into the air and watching them rise toward heaven, they shouted in unison, "Little "j"! "What's it like up there?"
And the crowd wept.

It can buy a House
But not a Home

It can buy a Bed
But not Sleep

It can buy a Clock

It can buy you a Book
But not Knowledge

It can buy you a Position
But not Respect

It can buy you Medicine
But not Health

It can buy you Blood
But not Life

It can buy you Sex
But not Love

So you see, money isn't everything.
And it often causes pain and suffering.
I tell you all this because I am your Friend.

"Daily Affirmations"

Even though I clutch my blanket and growl when
the alarm rings, thank you, Lord, that I can hear.
There are many who are deaf.

Even though I keep my eyes closed against the
morning light as long as possible, thank you,
Lord, that I can see. Many are blind.

Even though I huddle in my bed and put off rising,
thank you Lord, that I have the strength to rise.
There are many who are bedridden.

Even though the first hour of my day is hectic,
when socks are lost, toast is burned and tempers
are short, my children are so loud, thank you, Lord,
for My family. There are many who are lonely.

Even though our breakfast table never looks like the
pictures in magazines and the menu is at times
unbalanced, thank you, Lord, for the food we have.
There are many who are hungry.

Even though the routine of my job often is
monotonous, thank you, Lord, for the opportunity
to work. There are many who have no job.

Even though I grumble and bemoan my fate from
day to day and wish my circumstances were not
so modest, thank you, Lord, for life.

THE PARTY

I went to a party,
And remembered what you said.
You told me not to drink, Mom
So I had a Sprite instead.
I felt proud of myself,
The way you said I would,
That I didn't drink and drive,
Though some friends said I should.
I made a healthy choice, Mom
And your advice to me was right,
The party finally ended,
And the kids drove out of sight.
I got into my car,
Sure to get home in one piece,
I never saw it coming, Mom
Something I expected least.
Now I'm lying on the pavement,
And I hear the policeman say,
The kid that caused this wreck was drunk,
Mom, his voice seems far away.
My own blood's all around me,
As I try hard not to cry.
I can hear the paramedic say,
This girl is going to die.
I'm sure the guy had no idea,
While he was flying high,
Because he chose to drink and drive,
Now I would have to die.
So why do people do it, Mom
Knowing that it ruins lives?
And now the pain is cutting me,
Like a hundred stabbing knives.
Tell sister not to be afraid, Mom
Tell daddy to be brave,
And when I go to heaven,
Put "Daddy's Girl" on my grave.
Someone should have taught him,
That its wrong to drink and drive.
Maybe if his parents had,
I'd still be alive.
My breath is getting shorter, Mom
I'm getting really scared.
These are my final moments,
And I'm so unprepared.
I wish that you could hold me Mom,
As I lie here and die.
I wish that I could say I love you, Mom
So I love you and good-bye. .......

TWO LITTLE SHADOWS

I saw a young woman with eyes full of laughter,
And two little shadows came following after.
Wherever she moved, they were always right there
Rubbing on her skirts, jumping on her chair.
Before her, behind her....an adhesive pair.

"Don't you ever get weary, as day after day,
Your two little tagalongs get in your way?"
She smiled as she shook her pretty young head,
And I'll always remember the words that she said:

"It's good to have shadows that run when you run,
That play when you're happy and howl when you hum....
They're a bundle of joy and always such fun
For you only have shadows when your life's filled with sun."

Today, I will stop caring about the petty behaviors of others and spend
more time focused on the world around me.

Today, I know that humor doesn't die. But sometimes it becomes buried
under all of our day to day trials and tribulations. I need to make an
effort to remind myself how wonderful it was to laugh and be silly. I
will begin every day and end every day with a smile on my face!

Profile of a Prime Timer

We true prime-timers were here before the Pill, the population
explosion and disposable diapers. We were here before we were
called "senior citizens."

We were here before TV, penicillin, polio shots, antibiotics and
open-heart surgery. Before frozen food, nylon, Xerox, radar,
fluorescent lights, credit cards, ballpoint pens, Frisbees and fiber
optics.

For us, time-sharing meant togetherness, not computers or condos.
Coeds never wore jeans. Girls wore Peter Pan collars. We were
here before panty hose and drip-dry clothes, before icemakers and
dishwashers, clothes dryers, freezers and electric blankets. Before
men wore long hair and earrings and before women wore tuxedos.

We were here before Ann Landers, Grandma Moses and the Kinsey
Report. We were here before facelifts, tummy tucks, liposuction and
hair transplants. We thought cleavage was what butchers did. We
were here before sex changes. Before Viagra. We just made do
with what we had.

We were here before computers. A mouse pad was where mice hung
out. To log-on was to add wood to fire. A chip was a piece of wood.
Hardware meant hardware, and software wasn't even a word. A hard
drive was a long, grueling journey. A CD was something you invested
in. Windows were for looking out of. A virus was a flu bug that people
caught. Backing up was what you hoped never happened to your toilet,
especially when you had company.

We were here before vitamins, Jeeps, pizza, Cheerios, instant coffee,
decaffeinated anything, light anything and McDonald's. We thought fast
food was what you ate during Lent. If we had been asked to explain
VCR, CIA, NATO, UFO, PMS, GNP, MBA, BMW, SDI, NFL,
PSA and ATM, we'd have said "alphabet soup."

We prime-timers are a hardy bunch when you think of how our world
has changed, all we have learned and the adjustments we have made.
I'm pretty proud of us.

Let's keep in touch. Just e-mail me, send a fax, leave a message on my
answering machine or call me on my cell phone. If I don't answer, tell
my voicemail you called - after the beep, leave your name, your number
and a brief message, and I'll get back to you as soon as I can. If you
need me quickly, call my pager. If all else fails, come on over to my
house, take a seat in one of the rockers on my porch and we'll visit the
old- fashioned way - face to face and in person - and let the rest of the
world go by.

LET GO...

To let go does not mean to stop caring, it means I
can't do it for someone else...

To let go is not to cut myself off, it's the realization
I can't control another...

To let go is not to enable but to allow learning from
natural consequences...

To let go is to admit powerlessness which means the
outcome is not in my hands...

To let go is not to try to change or blame another,
it is to make the most of myself...

To let go is not to judge but to allow another to be human...

To let go is not to be in the middle arranging all the
outcomes, but to allow others to effect their destinies...

To let go is not to be protective, it is to permit
another to face reality...

To let go is not to deny but to accept...

To let go is not to nag, scold or argue, but to search
out my own shortcomings and correct them...

To let go is not to adjust everything to my desires but
to take each day as it comes and cherish myself in it...

To let go is not to criticize and regulate anybody but
to try and become what I dream to be...

To let go is not to regret the past, but to grow and
live for the future...

To let go is to fear less, and to love more...
