Let's talk about everyone's favorite concerts! Well, it doesn't have to be only about your favs, it can be just general stuff too. I've been to heaps of concerts throughout my life, I want to hear about your experiences.

One of my favorite concerts I've ever been to was The Dixie Chicks. Honestly, they put on a great show..... very energetic, and they play their own instruments! I have more shows to tell you about, but I'll do that another time. Let's hear about you!

I've been to many great concerts (and a few awful ones!), but I think the oddest experience was at a Kinks concert in 1987 when after the show was over and the house lights went up, Ray Davies came back out on stage and apologized for not sounding all that great because he had a cold. He said something to the effect of "I hope you don't all feel ripped off!" Trust me, I didn't! http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/smile.gif

Rickie Lee Jones at Joe's Pub in the Village was the most intimate concert I've seen. Ate dinner, and then out she comes with a jazz band, clearly enjoying herself.

Where to begin? http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/thinker.gif I've seen a vast array of concerts. My all-time favorite, besides the Beatles in '65, was Led Zepplin back in 1971 in California. They did 3 encores! http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/afraid4.gif
Some others include Bob Seger, KISS, Kansas, ZZ Top, Kenny Rogers, Little River Band, Styx, Nazareth, Foreigner and, believe it or not, Barry Manilow.

Those are some great one's, Kat. I've seen KISS several times, they put on a fantastic show! I loooove Gene Simmons! Just about a week ago, Eddie Money came here..... he always puts on a great show! I've seen Zebra about a million times, they always come here. Do any of you know of them? I bet those of you from Louisiana and New York know! I have more to tell you about, but I'll save for later!

Apart from Macca in 1990, there have been a few great gigs: Springsteen has to one of the greatest performers i've ever seen. I've seen Michael Jackson at Wembley in London - but that left me pretty cold. I felt more like a passive observer to this spectacle rather than a participator.....i think he said about 3 things in two hours, the same stock phrases.

Peter Gabriel on his Secret World tour was one of the most dazzling stage shows i've ever seen.......tons of props, he vanished into a suitcase at one point, and he had a little choo choo train going round the stage - and he dived backwards into our arms half way through the show !! Who else ? Crowded House were great fun, lots of banter with the audience !

The greatest light show at a concert had to be Genesis and their vari-light system round about '87 !

The Elton John-Billy Joel concert up (or down, depending on where you are) here in Brisbane a few years ago was really something else, quite superb. Got the crowd completely going, fantastic atmosphere and a masterly spectacle!

So superb, in fact, that I was compelled to tell you twice about how good it was.

I'm dredging up an old topic because I want to talk about a great concert I went to on Saturday night by Glenn Tilbrook (formerly of Squeeze) and Marshall Crenshaw. It was at a small place here in Chicago called the Park West. Both performers played solo acoustic shows and both were great!

Marshall Crenshaw played first and although I've heard he can be a tempermental performer, he was very relaxed and funny. He played a lot of his own songs, but also some wild covers...everything from "I'm Only Sleeping" to "Kick out the Jams" to some bizarre song called "The Girl on Death Row"!

Glenn Tilbrook is one of my favorite performers; Squeeze was the first group other than the Beatles that I owned more than one album by! Glenn wasn't feeling well, but even sick he sounds better than 90% of the singers out there! He was hilariously funny and charmed the pants off the audience (good thing I was wearing a skirt, hunh?) and played a great selection of songs from throughout his career. SO much fun!

Ok, I'll stop rambling now.... http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/smile.gif

The biggest concert I've already been to was Alabama. I've also seen Lee Greenwood and a few others. It was during Desert Storm and the army brought in lots of groups for the troops to see for free.

I'm very excited about seeing Aerosmith in a month or so.

Some of my favorites were:
Brian Wilson Pet Sounds last year
Any Springsteen concert
Clapton at the Arts Center as he was making a comeback before he got really huge(early 80's)
Ry Cooder at the Main Point in Philly (mid 70's)
