So this is where we can slag off modern day 'boybands'? Great! I propose we slag off the talentless bunch of idiots that are called 'Westlife' Most bands hear their songs for the first time in the studio after recording them. Westlife hear them for the first time on the radio.

Can I also say that I don't want to offend any Westlife fans that read this. I'm just excercising my right to free speech by saying that I've seen more talent give birth at the local zoo.

I've heard of Westlife in passing...fortunately, their music doesn't seem to have made it to the radio in the US that I know of...but that kind of hype reminds me of the Spice Girls crap...like when their stupid movie came out and everyone was calling it "A Hard Day's Spice!" Gimme a break...

You know what bothers me most? Those so called boy "bands" can't even play instruments, most of them...is it me, or does the word "band" imply a certain amount of musical prowess other than being able to dance in formation and grab your crotch?

Grrr...

the word 'band' would suggest that the group were musical in some way. In Westlife's way, wrong. They don't play an instrument, and they mime every time they go on stage. I reckon the talent behind the group are backstage going unreckonised. People these days go for looks and not talent.

Westlife sounds like NSync. Oh God I hate NSuck. The thing is, even if they CAN dance, so what? You don't HEAR that on the album. Same with Britney, what can she do??? Actually, I'd rather NOT know that...

Exactly, 4th Gen! Geez, the musical pablum the industry is pawning off on the unsuspecting public these days...just keep telling yourself...no one'll remember these people 40 years down the road...and here WE all are, still talking about the Beatles! AND the Beatles are still cool enough to have a number one album 30 years after the breakup...

They're a talentless 'musical' group who only got in the band by being the first 5 in the line in the morning. If someone ever mentions them, run away!

Another thing about this band that gets my goat is that the first 8 singles they released went to number one. (You'll never be short of an ashtray at their managers house) and the newspapers were using headlines like 'The day Westlife matched the Beatles' That clipping ended up straight onto me dartboard!

How true.

It's very lucky that Westlife's little run of number ones stopped at Christmas time because otherwise they could have beaten the Beatles run of 11 consequetive (I can't spell) number one hits. It's funny how Westlife were beaten by a fictional puppet called Bob the Builder singing 'Can We Fix It?' That's why I have an ounce of respect for old Bob.

Modern music is a tradgedy. My friends all listen to it, and I am subjected to it during school dances. Not that the sort of music I listen to is liked by my friends (I listen to classic rock and showtunes) but it angers me that people like all of this boy band crap. It isn't even real. I don't think that this is going to be a very interesting conversation though; I am sure that everyone agrees on every single point.

It's not all bad, actually. I can see why some people actually like the Backstreet Boys, etc. The people who like them for the music, and not sex appeal, I can totally respect that. Heck, "Show Me the Meaning Of Being Lonely" is actually a GOOD song! Of course, the best of theirs is way below the worst of the Beatles.

In this post I've totally lost all credibility here.

I can't stand any boy group. Why do they call themselves a band? What's the difference between BSB and Boys 2 Men? Nothing..well..talent...They don't play instruments they don't write their own music..they can't even sing. I hate the direction music is turning. Take Britney for example. She can't sing. All her songs sound the same, and they use equipment to make her voice sound "good". All her song shave the same tune. And they take up all of the publicity. There are a lot of good artists out there but none will get credit because these boy groups are all over the place. The best new artist IMO is Dido. She has been around for some time. It has taken her 47 weeks to creep up into the top 10 on Billboard. She has an incredible voice and awesome lyrics. She wasn't famous until Eminem used her song Thank You in his song Stan. Another one of her songs is used for the theme song in the WB show Roswell, Here With Me. I think that has helped her get a little fame. I just wish these talented artists could get recognition for once. It is time for the boy groups to go away and let us get some talented people in t he music world. Music has gone downhill. Can you imagine where music would be today if the Beatles were still together,(or at least writing together for other bands) or if John were alive?

Oh yes, she is. Her lyrics are incredible, and her work is very inspiring. But I've always made the separation between "The Beatles" and "the rest of the music". Then there would be a third cathegory: non-music. That's where you have to put BSB, N'Sync, Britney (but oh my God she's beautiful http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/wink.gif) and especially the guys like Puff Daddy (how I hate that man) or others like Eminem who have to make "songs" by adding excerpts from other songs... I think they call it "sampling" or something like that. That non-music doesn't have the right to be still alive. Electrocution gets my vote... http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/grin.gif

If I recall, John was rather self-conscious about his voice. He would have George Martin do things to it to see how it would sound.

Beatlemethis, you said that Boyz II Men was no better than BSB now that is just wrong, they do write their own songs or did when they were together and they have a nice motown blend to their sound they don't bother me one bit in fact I rather like em.
