Harrison to Be Inducted Into Rock Hall
NEW YORK (AP) -- Two years after his death, former Beatle George Harrison is being inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
Harrison leads a class of 2004 inductees, announced Thursday, that includes Prince, Jackson Browne, Bob Seger, Traffic, ZZ Top and the Dells.
The singer and guitarist, who died in November 2001 at 58, already has been inducted into the hall as a member of the Beatles. As a solo artist, his songs included "All Those Years Ago" and "Got My Mind Set On You," although his career was always eclipsed by the legendary success of his old band.
Artists are eligible for induction into the hall 25 years after their first recording is released. Prince, whose biggest album remains the multiplatinum disc "Purple Rain," is being inducted upon his first eligibility.
The induction ceremony is scheduled for March 15 in New York City.

Wow, what a shock!! I honestly thought they'd never do it. I'm curious, though, what he would've said about being inducted in the same year as Prince!? (not a putdown of Prince, they just seem to be opposites).

Yay George! images/icons/smile.gif It *is* about time. I wish they would've done this earlier while he was still alive...I hope he's in it because he deserved it and not for a sympathy thing. I think he should've been in much earlier. Still, I'm happy he's finally going to be in.

This is wonderful! I've been cheering ever since I found out about this on CNN. Heck, IT'S PAST TIME! I just wish George had been inducted during his lifetime, but in any event I am glad he is being given this honor he so richly deserves.

I guess the saddest graemlins/cry1.gif part for me is that I won't hear another George Harrison acceptance speech. I liked the one he gave when the Beatles were inducted. I would have loved to hear what he would have said about his own induction. I guess I'll just have to be satisfied with the Beatles' speech.

If you want to go see George's induction...... From the e-mail announcing this years inductees. You have to be a high level member($250 a year dues),tix will be distributed thru a lottery system. If you are lucky enough to get picked the tix are $2000 & $2500 each.
Here is Georges mini mini bio in the e-mail:
George Harrison - Post Beatles George Harrison's career spanned three decades during which he not only furthered his artistry as a musician, songwriter and producer(of music and numerous films)but as a humanitarian on the world stage.
It warms my heart to hear that they mentioned his humanitarian efforts. Incidently my dues to the R&R HOF are $50 a year. No, you do not get to vote on the inductees.....that is done by 700 unnamed 'experts'.You can get info on joining at rockhall.com

Capitol Records
( BW)(CA-CAPITOL-RECORDS) Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Announces Induction of George Harrison at March 2004 Ceremony
Entertainment Editors
HOLLYWOOD--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 26, 2003--The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Foundation has announced that George Harrison will be one of the seven artists honored at the Nineteenth Annual Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony. Jackson Browne, The Dells, Prince, Bob Seger, Traffic and ZZ Top will also be inducted at the ceremony, which will be held March 15, 2004 at the Waldorf Astoria in New York City.
From his 1971 album “All Things Must Pass,” to 2002’s “Brainwashed,” Harrison also proved to be a compelling solo artist. He was, in fact, the first Beatle to have a 1 single as a solo artist (“My Sweet Lord” from “All Things Must Pass”). His spirituality and humanitarianism were central to both his life and his work. In 1971, Harrison organized rock’s first major charity event, “The Concert for Bangladesh.” The event -- and the resulting film and Grammy-winning triple-album -- raised money for the famine-ravaged nation.
After a steady string of solo albums, Harrison struck a chord with the MTV generation in 1987 with the multi-Platinum album “Cloud Nine.” He recorded two albums with Bob Dylan, Jeff Lynne, Roy Orbison and Tom Petty as The Traveling Wilburys in the late 1980s and early 1990s, but his next -- and final -- solo album of new material would not appear until 2002. He worked on the album “Brainwashed” with son Dhani Harrison and long-time friend Jeff Lynne up until two months before his passing on November 29, 2001. The album, completed by Lynne and the younger Harrison, was released the following November to widespread critical acclaim.
Harrison was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1988 as a member of the Beatles.

Thanks BB.
There are people who say that the postponing has to do with the re-releases, so that when the event takes place, there are albums available in the stores, so in fact with a marketing view.
I don't know, it makes sense, and in fact it does not really matter when the induction takes place.
