kinda funny this topic would pop up right now. I was just wondering why George was so thin during the "Rain" video. Still hot, but man was he thin. I wonder if it was an illness or drugs.

Darl,
You have a cool teacher!
In the 1965 Concert dvd (I got mine off of eBay), right after the spring 1965 concert in Blackpool, George does his sexy little stiff-legged dance.
I love the way George introduces Paul singing "Yesterday" in 1965. I memorized the George lines and when I was younger, so much younger than today I loved to play the part of George introducing Paul. I knew the lines by heart.
I still like engaging in "Beatle play." images/icons/smile.gif I think it's fun.

Kind man, loved his stiff legged dance too. sweet smile, gorgeous hair, great guitar player, seems he was kind of the on stage tech guy, when things went wrong, you could see George nod to the off stage person, or perhaps go over to them to tell them what was wrong. Miss you sweet man images/icons/smile.gif

Did George ever have a 'fat' period? During HELP his face was nice and 'full' even if his body was still thin. I wonder if he ever thought he was going through a 'fat' period?
Lucy
Jan 02, 2004, 05:51 AM
I don't think he ever had a fat period....he was always lean as he could be! I think he must have had one of those mega fast metabolisms that I really really wish I had!! Man, those long, lean, stick thin legs....if only I had pins like that!
BB I agree 100% - his hair is great....so healthy and thick and beautiful looking. I have always said that about George. I don't like it when he poodled it though. But we all have our moments of hair insanity.
Do you know what I love watching as much as his little dances? On the anthology when he is talking about how they would wave to the audience to get screams to cover up dodgy bits in concert and it cuts to footage of George singing Paperback Writer with John and Paul and right on the close harmony bit he does the most hysterical wave to the audience.....I just LOVE that. I haven't watched it for ages actually, I might have a look at it today.

Jan 02, 2004, 06:03 AM
oh Lucy, I absolutely love that part too. It's not so much the wave that gets me it's that smirky grin he gives John. Damn I could just jump him right then!!!

Lucy, I didn't like the permed poodle look either. George had naturally beautiful hair and he sure didn't need no damn perm! I really didn't like the permed look at all. I also didn't like a beard on him.
Speaking of hair insanity, when I was in 12th grade, I had 12" of my hair cut off. Let's just say that was one of my more drastic decisions.
Yeah, I do love George's thick, wavy hair. I've said all along that man has inspired many people with oval follicles that they, too can have great looking hair.
George's humor was acerbic, brilliant and droll. He was VERY funny!
I love to watch George in Help!
I have a feeling, a feeling deep inside oh yeah that George was one heck of a WONDERFUL story teller! How I would have LOVED to hear George telling stories. George was a very interesting man.

I love that part! It's possibly my favorite part of the Anthology...along with Rain. Okay. straying off the topic, but...
my friend and I were in Chick-Fil-A (ooh great beginning, huh?) and when we came out it was raining REALLY kinda hard. (the "kinda" kinda takes away the effect but oh well. images/icons/tongue.gif ) So anyway, she ran to the car, and I went to the middle of the parking lot (stupid place, huh? let's go get run over!) and started dancing and singing that song just to embarrass her. lol that was SO much fun! But anyroad...
back on topic. Wow, this is turning into another forum that should have a GIRLS ONLY sign on it...not that I mind! images/icons/grin.gif Yeah, he is really thin in Rain...oooh not bad at all. Yeah, that was kinda off-topic too. starting over...

George promoted and inspired people to express love for one another. I think his feelings were pure and natural as were his talents and natural expression.
George has given so much - his words have inspired countless people and his reverence for life was evident in all aspects of his own. Like the gardens he so nurtured and cherished, he offered that same approach to others as well.
I think Louise the Elder was an excellent influence on George.

I was in the car with my aunt and she was listening to Enya and there was a song I guess called "sail away" and the chorus was "sail away sail away sail away" and I was like that sounds damn close to George's "Blow Away"...anyone know what im taking about? maybe im just weird....

Funny you should mention Enya's 1989 magnum opus -always liked that song as well. I, too, drew the "George" parallel, but I am glad to see I was not alone!
I think George looked his best clean shaven. I love that beautiful fringe and I think his thick wavy hair was PRIME! George was the only Beatle who had wavy hair! During the moptop era, his hair was the longest. When I was a little girl, I thought the Beatles' hair was beautiful. Still do.
George could do the best deadpans of anyone. When you watch A Hard Day's Night, check out George's deadpan expression when a reporter asks if success has changed him. George looks her straight in the face and says "yes." Classic!
That thing with the shirts WAS funny. I read that George didn't want to say "grotty" and found it stupid. When convinced he'd set a trend "because a Beatle had said it," George reluctantly went along with it.
Regardless of your mood, a little George Harrison is good for you. You will find you feel better after you listen to him.

Rob, thanks for that song list. I wonder if George, et al.'s work is available for purchase for that R&R performance? I hope so.
I've said all along George was a good influence on people.
His music is very good for me. The Monday Night Prayer Group at my church uses his music - trust me, they will never listen to George in quite the same way ever again! I was reading Beatles Anthology and boy, Jayne Mansfield was some piece of work! George said in 1964 she sat on the couch between him and John and touched them quite inappropriately. I didn't like that. Larry Kane has a picture of them on the couch and of George, seconds after he threw his drink at an intrusive papparazzo. George talks about this in Anthology as well.
George was not a man to leave you guessing. I like the way he quenched that reporter's zest!

I have to agree with you.
Ever since I was a little girl, I have intensely loved George Harrison stories. Still do. George stories make me feel so good because he was so well loved from the very beginning. It was plain that he was someone special, distinct and unique. I know I've said this many times, but the post above resparked that thought.
George WAS a lovable sounding man indeed. I seriously think it was those early loving influences that made George the distinctive individual that he was and also came through in his music.
George's music is intensely moving and I have said all along that I think George will continue to remain a good influence. He really did make the world a better place.
George Harrison was truly an extraordinary person.
I knew a little girl who has Asperger's Syndrome, which shares a place on the spectrum with autism. Many individuals with Asperger's Syndrome go undetected, but there is a range and some overlapping behaviors.
This girl is a major Beatles' fan and collector. George is her favorite and she often lets George "talk" for her. For her, all long and winding roads lead to the Beatles and she can always come up with a relevant Beatle or George quote. It just goes to show you how deeply moving George's words really are. This always warms my heart.
In Anthology, George said he hoped people would always have a place in their hearts for the Beatles. I think he can count on that. He can count on it up to 100% every time. :smile1:

I don't agree, I am happy you finally have them, but compare "George Harrison" and "33 1/3" with the original albums and especially focus on the mixing. In many occasions the drums and guitars are more separated and the vocals are more upfront. Quite technical, but there are differences.

Uhm, yeah, I've heard them with headphones, too... and of course they sound better than my older albums (which were mp3 copies anyway...). I think they sound great, and the best sound improvement comes from Thirty-Three & 1/3 (I've come to appreciate "Pure Smokey" now that I can really HEAR it). But albums like Cloud Nine (or Gone Troppo, for that matter), sounded so groundbreakingly great in the first place that I don't think they needed special remastering work.
But what got me thinking was that never in the booklets (nice booklets, by the way), they call them 'remastered' albums nor they put a date for remastering - only for the new artwork. The remastering announces are in front of the CD boxes, except in Live In Japan, where there are people (engineers, etc) credited for the SACD remix. And there you can note a huge difference.
If they did anything to them was remastering them (i.e. just cleaning, not remixing or changing the channels or positions to some instruments), but anyway they sound great, the artwork is great and it's great to have them around here. http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggrin.gif

Pure Smokey is a good example, I also was under the impression it all was kinda packed together and not really polished up well on the original album.
Oh yes, the techniques on Cloud Nine were that good that there probably was not much remastering to do. Technically maybe there have been changes made and if we listen carefully we may even notice it, but to be honest I have not tried that album yet, I mean the comparison.
Somewhere In England though also to me is now really an album I can listen to. The sound is so much clearer.
But...I'd buy the albums if only for the liner notes and pictures http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif and with this box set...I just had to get it.

Sentimentalist said the same thing. I love the man's crowning glory, but I certainly don't want to live in it!
Think of the life forms that have been found in hair, e.g. parasites and lice. Not that George had that problem, but still, the thought of setting up residence in somebody's crowning glory doesn't sound like a quality life to me. That is JMO.
Put a picture of George, 1965 George on your screen as a screen saver. Choose a picture where you can really see the natural S-waves in his beautiful wavy hair!
You can't live without your computer and you understandably love the man's lush, full, thick, beautiful wavy hair. This way you can enjoy both.
Now, to touch that magnificent mane; to play with and brush that beautiful wavy hair; to watch George shake his thick, brown crown...I'd LOVE that! I also love to watch George's hair blowing in the breeze...I sure do love his crowning glory!

I've said many times that George Harrison was a truly beautiful man. He was a deep, profound person and I think his interests such as gardening were very a propos. Gardening is a nuturing, life-sustaining activity and I think that was largely what George was about.

I love thinking of just how well loved the youngest child of 4 and the youngest Beatle of 4 really was. http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif This really captures just why I honestly think George was effective to the extent that he continues to be and why we love him as we do. http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Ibid:
From Louise~
George and I shared many experiences, including the excitement and fun of the early Beatle years, the search for a better understanding of our Creator, why are we here on Earth? and do we have any real purpose? George's search led him, amongst other things, to a book called "Autobiography of a Yogi" by Paramahansa Yogananda. In about 1969, George sent me a copy of the book and soon thereafter I joined the Self-Realization Fellowship which Yogananda founded in 1925 in California.
George was delighted when I showed him my membership card and with a mischievous grin said to me (knowing some of the goof-ups I had made in my life), "Maybe now you will become my divine sister!" With an equally mischievous grin I replied, "I'd like to try, but it won't come easy." His reply: "Nothing worthwhile ever does!"
I learned from SRF, if you truly believe the Creator is within you: a) You are connected with love to all who also contain that spirit. b) You can never think any thought, or perform any act 'behind God's back' and c) Your spirit cannot be adversely affected by the happenings in this finite and imperfect world. Living with those credos one can only think and act with total purity of purpose. In late 1992, I formed a non-profit environmental organization, called Drop-In! It was a continuation of the spirit of many of the "messages" embodied in the Beatle phenomenon. We also included some of the things I had learned from the SRF.
Initially I explained the general ideas of Drop-In to George and invited him to be on the Board, but he said to me, "No Lou, this is your mission or dharma. This is the task you have to do. Besides, it seems you have tapped into a "Power" greater than any help I can give. "

The remastered or remixed Baltimore Oriole is simply amazing . The guitar work really comes forward and the part just where George says, "I'd like to ruffle his plumage.." and the guitar comes in so beautifully. Only George could integrate the music and vocals into such an amazing masterpiece.

I enjoy how expressive George's eyebrows are in the movies. He could be funny without saying a word. Some of the best parts in the flicks were George's, particularly when he was up to no good.
Also, "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" is a masterpiece, through and through.

My favorite bit, of all (!), in "Help !" is when they are in the old army barracks (Bahamas).
... just as they are being attacked by Klang's men...
George: "Well, I'm off !" (runs away)
Second favorite, in the tavern, near the end... George in backround, pretending he's searching his pockets for money to pay for the beers... the impish look he gives Ringo as if to say "Sorry, I haven't any cash on me", while actually just being stingy, which is so "George", in a way.

This quote from his son has been stuck in my head for a while:
He had an amazing life your dad in a way. Two distinct parts in a way. All the mayhem of the Beatles and quite a fantastic experience for a young person to have y'know, to conquer the world with your music and there was nothing seen like it before or since really. And then the later part of his life just very quiet, very peaceful, spending a lot of time in the garden.
~Yeah, that's kind of how I knew him really. The whole time that we were, or that I was growing up y'know I'd be at school and I'd come home and he'd always be in the garden, and I'd go to school and he'd be in the garden and I'd come home. And then when I was away at University I'd come home and he'd be in the garden, it was just the whole time. He was relentless. He'd garden until it went dark, and I know my friends will all be agreeing with this, when I say it. But literally the man gardened until it was pitch black, and you know, it was, I think night time gardening was one of his favourite activities, cos you couldn't see any of the weeds y'see. And you get to imagine what it would look like when it was all done. And so he'd go out there, y'know maybe take a beer and go out in the garden at night and garden as well. So he was a very very relentless gardener.

Funny...in 1965 George said he thought he was always getting winked at these days and he didn't encourage that wink, y'know.
The man was a winker at that! http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif
"Dear One" is a beautiful prayer set to music.
The Prayer Group at my church uses some George songs.
The people in my group got in touch with their inner
George Harrison afficionados (sp) and discovered just
how wonderful his music is.
"I Want to Tell You" is one of my all time favorite songs and George's best song as a Beatle. I really love it and I think George was an exemplary, exceptional, nonpareil lyricist.
I think George was the most interesting Beatle.
He was NEVER econo-class! George was FIRST CLASS all the way. So was Arthur. And George didn't have to encourage that wink - he deserved it.
When George came to Benton, he rode in a 1961 Dodge Dart. :thumbu2:
DARTS RULE! :thumbu2:

I love the fact that George loved to get out there in his little peace of God's earth, and be at one with nature and God, there is nothing like feeling good earth in your hands, and planting that plant and nuturing it, then watching it's response to the care that you(the gardner, and God give these lovely living things) I don't get out to often and play in my garden at night, like George did though... http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

The first mention of a song in this page! http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggrin.gif
My dad's friend, the one who liked "Your Love Is Forever" without being a Harrison fan whatsoever, asked me to do a compilation CD of George's solo works. He gave me total freedom in that, but he did tell me: 'please let "Isn't It A Pity" be the closer'. The atmosphere in that tune is so beautifully touching that I understood why. http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif
EDIT: "Pisces Fish" was mentioned in the top of the page. I should have said the first mention of a song in about 15 posts... http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

In January of 2003, Olivia and Dhani gave an interview about George and they said the song "Pisces Fish" fit George to a T. They said that George detested conflict and strife and swam from it and made other piscene references to George's nature and temperament.
Beautiful song, beautiful man - we will always love George.

How can you express exactly the feeling of "being in love"? Well... George did it perfectly when he wrote "Someting"
Every time I listen to this song I feel like thanking God for bringing George Harrison to Earth, and for giving him that talent and that pure soul.
This song is just perfect, I hear it and I became speachless, it's too much, and every single word on it it's so true. The best love song ever written for sure.
Thank you George, really, really thank you.

You have to listen to Somewhere In England with headphones to appreciate it. Try it, it just worked on me and I used to hate that album with passion. I often write about George on my website under Blogging with the Beatles. Something about him that still holds me close. I'm scrapbooking my old memories of him. Kinda fun. Actually, I'm trying to preserve my newsclippings. I have to get the acid out of them, which I just learned to do. Anyways, even though I passed 50 last year, and he passed on, I still think like a teenager and love him dearly. I just ordered a 16 Magazine from the 60's from Ebay with...who else, my fav Beatle. I used to subscribe to 16 but I didn't keep them.
What I love about this board is reading about how other people love him still.

You can take the Beatles separately and analyze all their energy, but when you put them together astrologically and chemically, something stronger takes place that even the Beatles never understood. As Dylan said, "To understand you know too soon there is no sense in trying." Dylan is so brilliant. To me, he makes William Shakespeare look like Billy Joel.

Not my favorite picture of George - don't care for the fake eyeballs at all. (I read that during the making of their first movie, fake eyeballs were made in case a certain ocular recording of an expression was needed in a scene).
With regard to the man's music, it just goes to show you that you can't dodge that Harrison influence (not that anyone would want to)...

George was a very funny man! I thought he was such a panic in the Beatle movies.
That thing with "Arthur" makes me laugh to this day. And who could forget his impeccable delivery in "Help!" Damn, that man STOLE the show!
Oh, yeah. George was so adorable when he stomped out a beat in his Beatle boots.

Yeah, it really is. At first it could make you :cry2: It is so intensely beautiful you can almost picture George in Hawaii, a part of nature there and being soothed by it as well.
Right now I feel like listening to "Any Road" and "Stuck Inside a Cloud" and "Looking For My Life." Those songs are very intense. Extraordinary high caliber, those! :smile1:

So do I! Pure George Harrison - the man as truly a gifted, ultra-extraordinary lyricist.
Caught up on me with intensity
Had no idea where I was heading
I only found it out when I was down upon my knees
Looking for my life.
Words I can readily identify with, Diz. Good
choice for your signature and an excellent
quote. Heck, it's just an excellent song,
Looking For My Life.
"Looking For My Life" is a song that many can identify with based on their needs and life experiences. I just LOVE it! :thumbu2:
Another underappreciated George Harrison work is "It's All Too Much." I just LOVE that song.

See, Diz, I KNEW all along there are a lot of Hari Hair lovers out there! George Harrison had beautiful wavy hair that anybody would love. How would you like to brush it?
I'm in kind of a weird mood today. Say, how many of you noticed that George is the Beatle in the majority of racy threads and racy thoughts?
That's probably because George was only THE sexiest man to ever walk on the face of the earth. :eyebrows:
And yes, I would LOVE to brush George's hair! To get that close, to be able to touch it would've been fantastic. His hair was one of his best features, along with that killer smile of his.

I LOVE all the hornbaggery going on at the Palace! It has been proven time and again that George Harrison and that sexy head of thick wavy hair has released many a fan's inner hornbag...I just LOVE that! Had George been born during the Repressionist Era aka Victorian Period, I would not be surprised if Queen Vic, upon seeing that lush, thick brown crown would want George to let her touch that crowning glory! Talk about the ice is slowly melting...George and his sex appeal could certainly help thaw the sexual freeze that seemed to be the prevailing tone in those days. He could certainly bring many smiles to many faces...yeah!
Oh yeah, to brush that man's hair! His smile was beautiful - it was a paternal trait that showed up on our beloved George. I wonder who passed on that gorgeous head of beautiful wavy hair! He had the best hair of the fabs - natural waves, thick, lush and it held up well. He could make his hair look ideal and he inspired many people with oval follicles that they, too could have ideal looking hair! Say Diz, how would you like to wash his beautiful wavy hair?

Like how I loved it when George introduced Paul on Ed Sullivan (8/14/65) and aired 9/12/65. I love it when George says, "For Paul McCartney of Liverpool, opportunity knocks!" Whenever I had people over for "Beatle Play" or engaged in Beatle role play at Beatle conventions, I always insisted on playing George. :smile1:
There is a woman who lives down the street from me who has a very fat little pug she named Harrison after George Harrison because he's her favorite Beatle.
I loved it when George did a commercial for VH-1 in the late 1990s.
Of all the Beatle solo videos, George's are the most interesting and fun to watch.

Where did you read this?
I would think that by the early 70s, George was no longer a randy, sexually green kid looking to satisfy his own needs, but by then a considerte lover after having been married. He would certainly have reached an age where he would have been more aware of loving ways to express intimacy. I would think that by that point in time, George would have reached sexual as well as other maturity which includes the truism that pleasure is to be mutually shared.

I read a long time ago that George had good table manners.
I guess that means but is not limited to the following:
1. He didn't fart or burp at the table :fart:
2. He didn't pick his nose or his teeth at the table
3. He used a napkin and didn't have food on his face
4. He didn't reach across the table for something he wanted
5. He didn't knock your glass over while reaching for something
6. He didn't grab food with his hands
7. He washed his hands before coming to the table
8. He sat with a napkin on his lap
9. He kept his elbows off the table
10. He chewed with his mouth closed and didn't talk with food in his mouth
11. He wiped his mouth with a napkin and not his arm and/or sleeve
12. He used cutlery properly
13. He didn't hijack the conversation at the table; scratch or make rude noises
14. He sat up straight in his chair
15. He didn't discuss things at the table that tend to make people queasy :dead1: :barf4:
16. He didn't insult his host's cooking or throw any food like the Three Stooges
I guess that could be a good operational definition of George's good table manners.

I was kidding, also. There's no way to know if George made the statement with food smears on his face or on his clothes. A long time ago I read he had good table manners, so i thought I'd have a little fun with that.
Can you picture the Fabs engaged in a Three Stooges like food fight where they throw the stuff around? Imagine George throwing a pie at Paul and Paul and John throwing pies at Ringo and Ringo throwing a pie and it hits the wall instead of George! :laugh5:

On a serious note...
I like the way we can go from silly and racy to deep, intellectual and profound. The versatility that is offered...George was a master at evoking strong emotions of all kinds, an emotional virtuoso if you will.. That is reflected in the wide range of posts and topics on Crackerbox Palace.
Sometimes it's fun to let down your moptop and joke around and other times you want a serious, in-depth discussion. This forum provides something that meets just about if not everybody's need.

It's funny cos I fell in love with him when I was 12 in 1979 and the steamiest my fantasies got were holding hands, then at 14 it got to serious snogging, 16 abit of a fumble with no hint of a shag and now at the grand old age of 38 you can just imagine what goes through my mind. I will send you my little fan fic story based in a potting shed if you like, that will bring the hornbag out in anyone! :laugh5: :laugh5:
