I'm still shaking graemlins/dance.gif the wonderful Hari's Chick told me just some minutes ago that the Concert For George film will be in an Amsterdam Theatre this week, a one time event.
She found out and I hadn't, well, that's life, I am no movie man and have no idea where to look for things in cinema's because I never go there.
Anyways, I called Legs and he will join me - ofcourse - so guys I am so so excited, I will make notes, if I can hehe, and write about this fantastic experience.

I had originally learned of the film playing in Amsterdam from my other Dutch buddies Phil Spector and Taxgirl. Maybe they would also like to write their reviews, also? That would be great. images/icons/smile.gif images/icons/smile.gif

Okay,
maybe I will write this in parts, because I may not remember everything, but probably when all the Dutchies who were there - Legs, Taxgirl, Phil Specter - write reports I will make some additions.
Anoushka
Absolute fab to see her part. I am sure that a certain part of her new written 'song' comes from one of the album tracks of Ravi, I am sure, I need to see it again, but the moment it came on, that part, I told Legs "I know this part".
It will come to me.
She is great on the sitar and also the way she conducted the whole 'orchestra' and singers, just magnificant. The choir, that was maybe one of a few moments which will never disappear from my sight, the great overview of all those people in the orchestra/choir up there, high on stage, seeming to be like in a trance, for George. So much love.
Olivia
She is wonderful, how she's just sitting there with Ravi. What I just wrote, the part of Anoushka, the singing, it was a new written piece, but Olivia was singing along ... so she must have know it, writing this I hear the choir and I see Olivia singing along and Ravi .. well just as he is. The smile !!!
Also, seeing the moments with Olivia and the musicians, so much love. Just great.
Paul
Paul, I am sorry, I really am.
You won't read this here, but graemlins/wink1.gif maybe you will read it elsewhere - no Beatlelinkers I won't tell but he may see this in fact , I don't know when but he might - I am really sorry for some comments I made about your appearance at the Concert.
I have been watching his eyes... the little wink to Eric Clapton .. the way he did All Things Must Pass (people said he did not know the words and I copied that, but it's wrong, it's absolutely wrong) with a look in his face which I thought of was bringing memories back from the Let It Be/Get Back days. How he was with Dhani, with Olivia, with Ringo.
After seeing the film, I believe that Paul was just trying to be part of the band and not a solo performer everybody would look at.
He loves George and I really changed tune about him after seeing him in action there. Also at rehearsals.
So maybe I even listen to Yesterday today, well in fact that would not be such a bad idea graemlins/wink1.gif
Slowhand
He was great, all this time, after November 2001 and before the Concert, many people were looking for something from him. Well this is it. His work. The absolute tribute.
He was thé man at the concert. Looking over the band, like Paul, not tryting to be the number one man on stage, and so so concentrated, motivated, loving...
The way he and Dhani looked at each other in various moments... "like his Dad" everybody says and ... they're right.
What the film does not show and the preview does, is the little hand of Dhani after "While My Guitar" on Clapper's back. Just saying it all.
Clapton - the way he is playing in the Indian part, he plays the acoustic guitar like someone would play sitar !!! He will not know how to play sitar I think, but in stead of that, he actually plays the guitar as Ravi or George or Dhani would play the sitar. Magnificant. Touching.
And yeah, on the various songs, he often was just a band member, not even singing, but just in front as the 'leader' but on other songs, he took the lead on guitar as everyone would expect him to. George's friend. "Badge", "Layla", "Here Comes The Sun".....
To me, it was the way he looked. So much concentration, just the way he was doing "his" tribute, knowing his friend would like it.
"Forgotten Billy Preston"
Famous words. Billy was doing just great, also with him , so much love for George. Ofcourse he had to do "My Sweet Lord 2002", obvious ...
Ringo
Oh Ringo, the way he was sitting there, doing this drumming which George was such an admiror of... and "Photograph", well that was like the "Storytellers" ..mmm don't know...
The hugs, yeah Ringo was really feeling good.
Petty
Man, he looks like he has 'lived'.
I think one of the closest friends of George.
I was not so fond of "Taxman" when I heard it, but now, ...yeah it is what Tom does, he sings like that.
Ravi
As he says so often, "George was like a son to me, but at the same time also a dear friend".
Ravi was there, and you can see him enjoying it.
The smile..... it says so much. "Love One Another"
Jeff
Jeff is great, the man George finally got writing songs with, as George said, probably the only one he really had that with, it's from a Cloud 9 interview I have.
"The Inner Light" is a fantastic part of the Concert. Okay I said something about the vocals, but then maybe I am just always comparing...
Andy
People forget him.. I know Andy since he was with Amen Corner as a singer.. "Bend Me Shape Me" ...and then what happens, he's on tour with George, my George... and what a musician he became, the Unplugged Clapton album..
On the Concert, he played a lot of acoustics, did backing vocals, played slide, yeah I love having him there...
I will write part two later ...

First of all I felt and still feel very fortunate to have been one of the people who actually saw the Concert last year.
Seeing the film brought back so many memories of this wonderful evening.
Reading the reviews right after the show I can tell you I was upset the way some people talked about Paul and Eric.
Allthough I saw the whole show from some distance I could tell (and I did images/icons/wink.gif ) that those accusations were so wrong. It was all about the love they shared for George and nobody was trying to turn it into a one man’s show.
They changed the order of the songs, but it was nicely done, not disturbing at all. The original Concert started with the Indian part and Jeff’s version of The Inner Light which appealed much more to me this time than last year. I really really liked it. Maybe it was because now you could also see the expression on the faces and man how Anoushka can play the sitar! Amazing!
Ravi and Anoushka explained how difficult it was to change the Indian music notations into Western ones, because the counting is so different from what we are used to. That made seeing and hearing Eric play accoustic guitar in the the Indian part even more awesome… !
I really look forward to see the whole Indian part again. I always skipped the first part of the Concert for Bangla Desh, but this time the music really caught me.
Horse to Water became one of my favorite songs after hearing Sam Brown’s version last year. It’s I guess the only song that impressed me more live than on the big screen.
I hope I’m not insulting anybody by saying that I think this is an ‘unlike’ George song. Or maybe I better say: What a wonderful talented man, our George!!! graemlins/flower2.gif
Some songs, like Photograph and Handle with Care, were interrupted by interviews. That disturbed me a bit.
I wish they had done that before or after. I would have liked to hear it all during this one time opportunity to hear/see it at a theater.
I think the movie gives you a very good impression about the warm feelings there were between everybody. Not only on stage, but also in the audience. It would have been nice if there had been some incense at theater too… Then it would have felt even more ‘real’
Hehehe I missed the part in which Eric made his mistake about calling Dhani George’s wife images/icons/wink.gif

Yes, thanks for the reviews guys.
It seems a shame they interupted 'Photograph.' For me that was a very poignant part of the concert, with the photo of George in the background.

Heyyyy, what more is there to say ? Those reviews says it all.
I was at the concert last November and in Amsterdam last night. The big difference was the atmosphere, it was like magic that night at the RAH in London.
Nice thing about the movie is that you could see the expressions on the faces of the musicians, especially Ringo, Eric and Paul.
For me then en and yesterday was the highlight the songs "Isn't It a Pity" by Billy Preston and "See You In My Dreams", I think Joe Brown did a wonderful job there. It was very touching and very beautifully filmed.
All in all a memorable night, in many ways !

Nothing much to add I think.
It was a beautiful to see and to hear this hearthfelt tribute to George.
The moments between the people on stage, just looking at Dhani and seeing so much of George in him just gave me shivers.
The music was beautiful.Maybe when I have the cd and listen to the songs I think, well a bit out of tune there, George did that better but non of that really maters. It was a heartfelt tribut and I just enjoyed the film last night.
Moods varied between just being caught up in the beautiful music, and wanted to stand and clap and sing along, which wasn't posible like you would at a live concert. We (Rob and I) sometimes had dificulties with the fact that this was more like going to the movies, where you would have to sit still and be quet!
Many hightpoints, Anoushka an Ravi, really a beautiful version of the Inner Light, Sam Brown's version of "Horse To The Water" was great, different the that of George but great.Billy Preston ofcoures Ringo and Pauls hearthfelt version of "All Things Must Pass", and Eric, what he did on guitar, making it sound like a siter was really beatiful.Tom Petty also, but like Taxgirl I found it a shame that during some songs the inserted interviews, that takes away from enjoying the music, I wish they had done that after or before a song. But it was a great night, and I am happy to have been there.
