We have not done this in a while now. What are your all time favorite George lyrics? No limit on how many, just share away, and if you care to, why they are important and have meaning to you.

FPSHOT and I have had some wonderful talks recently about the lyrics to Rising Sun, and I have taken a wonderful and close look at these special lyrics.

These lines....

"until the ghost of memory trapped in my body mind
came out of hiding to become alive"

are amazing to me. This is so true, God holding on to us through our umbilical cord life after life...and through it all this seed of awareness of that Rising Sun within, keeps peeking it's head in and out of our consciousness...until...it comes out of hiding to become alive, daily, the more we focus on it in life.

So beautiful.

This is so hard, there are so many. Many different songs, many different feelings. One that always tugs on my heart is 'You', very strong. I can't really explain why right now but I'll keep this topic in mind and add on when I think of more.

actually I guess my all time favorite lyrics would be in my signature. I haven't even heard the song. The words themselves move me.

That is beautiful, HC and the way you expressed it is just as beautiful as what George said.

George's lyrics are very deep and intense - just a few months ago, I used the lyrics from "See Yourself" when telling somebody I knew they were doing something that was hurting many other people, myself included. Some gems of wisdom from George helped soften things and his gift of natural expression made it possible for me to do something I had been dreading.

On Monday I have to give a talk at my church. My talk will have Harrison lyrics interspersed throughout it for emphasis.

There are so many lyrics that have deeply moved me and impacted on me in a positive way and I don't know where to start. In Awaiting On You All, I just LOVE the part about "If you open up your heart you'll see He's right there/He always was and will be/He'll relieve you of all your cares." That is very comforting to me.

George has really helped people keep their minds set on God and for that I will always love him. His music has really enriched my life and songs such as The Lord Loves the One Who Loves the Lord, What is Life, The Light That Has Lighted the World, Any Road are just the tip of the iceberg. I LOVE the lyric "Bow to God and call Him Sir" in Any Road. That's my favorite part! A gifted poet, philosopher, gardener and musician, George's beliefs are expressed with loving introspection. A gift!

As for his Beatle gems, I LOVE 1965's I Need You. My favorite lyrics are "you don't realize how much I need you/love you all the time and never leave you." Sometimes I think of God extending Himself to us by communicating that He'll never leave us. I think the lyric "the future still looks good" in Think For Yourself is very encouraging and inspirtional. I Want to Tell You is truly one of my all time favorite songs. The lyrics are nonpareil and clearly send out a message of opening the doors to communication. In Here Comes the Sun, the part about "the smiles' returning to their faces" is SUCH an affirmation. I love it!

That is a very difficult question. So many of George's songs have wonderful lyrics, I could be here all day! One song in particular though that has always stood out for me is Within You Without You. It is a song that is often overlooked because some perceive it as too heavy or too 'Indian' but the lyrics are fantastic. They are so inspirational thought provoking. It is amazing to me that George was just 24 years old when this song was released - the same age as me - and yet he was able to write about things like this. Especially as he had only been writing songs a couple of years.

I agree, it is certainly a hard question. I like the lyrics to I Need You, While My Guitar Gently Weeps, but I think my all time fave lyrics are from My Sweet Lord.

"I really want to see you
Really want to be with you
Really want to see you lord
But it takes so long, my lord"

I always cry when I listen to it, because they're so beautiful, so sad, and somehow they make me realize George is really gone.

Speaking of Any Road reminds me of how I read George so often quoted the line "If you don't know where you're going, any road will take you there"...fabulous! I mean, simple, but then how many applications can we make to various parts of our lives where this is concerned. They say in business, for example, the biggest determinent in whether one is successful or not...the one thing...is the ability to makes goals. Goal setting...more than educational ability or social status, class, connections...goal setting is the most important thing. So, this taken to a spiritual level and with so much humor by George. Yoganandaji says everything else can wait, but the search for God cannot wait. So then George can apply this line...okay, so let's define things, which road are you on. I see it as a bit of an extention of that Yoganandaji comment. So beautiful!

BB, please tell us how the talk goes on Monday!
Bless George's See Yourself for helping you find the perfect words. George gives us such gifts each day! images/icons/smile.gif

I also really love the line "Bow to God and call, him Sir". I especially love this line in George's VH1 version of this song.

It's hard for me to pick out my favourite George lyric, there are so many, many great ones. Man, I love him! graemlins/heart2.gif

Rising Sun has such amazing lyrics as HC pointed out. Besides the ones she quoted, I also love:
But in the rising sun you can feel your life begin
Universe at play inside your DNA, and you're a billion years old today

Some other George lyrics that always come to mind for me are from This Is Love:

Though our problems have been our own creation
They also can be overcome

To me this speaks volumes.

In the All About Brainwashed radio show, Dhani speaks about "Any Road" that the song was born due to a bridge in Maui (it was composed there, whilst filming the "This Is Love" video). According to him, one sign on the bridge said: "you can't change the direction of the wind, but you can adjust yourself."
And the other sign of the bridge said: "and if you don't know where you're going, any road will take you there". The whole story is amazing, how Dhani (yes, young Dhani) helped daddy in writing the song... (the word "lame" is his images/icons/grin.gif ).

Anyway, back to topic... there is a lot of George lyrics that I love, I would have to really re-think about the question in order to answer it properly.

I'm so glad you asked, HC!

The talk went far better than I ever would have imagined. George quotes were interspersed throughout my talk which made it even more effective. One thing I included was that George placed God and his beliefs first and based his music around God and his beliefs. I'm not really doing justice to it now, but it turned out to be really wonderful and I got a lot of very positive feedback. People related to the George quotes and trust me, nobody who was there will ever forget that talk. (I think some of George's songs are beautiful prayers set to music).

I closed by playing "Dear One."

George had a gift for expressing himself and I find his words so often fit the occasion. graemlins/thumbsup2.gif

BB,
That sounds fantastic!! images/icons/smile.gif I wish I could have been there! Dear One is the perfect song to play graemlins/heart2.gif . Each special occasion we SRF members get a letter in the mail from Sri Daya Mata (at XMas, Thanksgiving...) and these letters are to cherish, just so loving and close. She begins always with 'Dear Ones'...that is how she addresses us. So, it is so special...

Thanks for sharing about the talk! images/icons/smile.gif images/icons/smile.gif images/icons/smile.gif

I kinda George's "I Want to tell you" when he says
And when I seem to act unkind
It's only me, it's not my mind,
that is confusing things

I dont know why...I just do images/icons/smile.gif

george's lyrics always stand out for me. it's like he always knew something the rest of us didn't. . .or at least knew how to put into words that something the rest of us wanted to say but never knew how!

i have so many favorites, so i'm just going to list the first few that pop into my head images/icons/smile.gif

* "life flows on within you and without you. . ." (does that not just blow you away?)
* old brown shoe--entire song (this song is me. . .except for all the stuff about wanting a short haired girl images/icons/wink.gif )
* "it's not always gonna be this grey. all things must pass. . ." (this has been my theme song for these last couple of difficult months)
* "in there eyes there's something lacking; what they need's a damn good whacking!" (hehehe, i just love this. george's wit in convenient song form!)
* "i'm a pisces fish and the river runs through my soul. . ." (just beautiful)

i could keep on going forever images/icons/grin.gif

I Want To Tell You :

"Sometimes I wish I knew you well
Then I could speak my mind and tell you
Maybe you'd understand"

Says so much. I am a pretty shy person. So, I keep to myself if I don't know people very well. People may think I am weird, or bitchy because I don't talk. If they knew me well, they would understand that I am not weird or bitchy, just shy.

That is my favorite of the Harrison compositions during the Beatle years. This 1966 gem speaks volumes and it remains a favorite of mine to this day.

It's been a long long long time,
How could I ever have lost you
When I loved you.

It took a long long long time
Now I'm so happy I found you
How I love you

So many tears I was searching,
So many tears I was wasting, oh. Oh--

Now I can see you, be you
How can I ever misplace you
How I want you
Oh I love you
Your know that I need you.
Ooh I love you

I love the Dark Horse album. This is one of my favorite lyrics...

"In his heart at arms length
Held within it's great strength
To ward off such a great dispair"

This is so beautiful and so so George graemlins/heart2.gif

"The Art of Dying" is the saddest song... How true the lyrics are...
