I love this album and since I got it recently on CD I have'nt stopped listening to it.Each song is a gem with no duds.
Handle with Care is fantastic with George sounding great and Heading for The Light could have easily fitted on Cloud 9.
Also Bob Dylan is great on Tweeter and the Monkeyman(great title!) and Roy Orbison on Not Alone Anymore.Jeff Lynne and Tom Petty aren't that bad either!
Does anyone else like this album.
Volume 3 is OK but no way near as good.

I think Volume 1 is absolutely oustanding – wonderful, wonderful record.
And I prefer listening to Volume 3! My head says Volume 1 is better, my ears/heart go for Volume 3. I cannot say why. Very strange, but there it is.
Ain't music wonderful!

I love them both, actually. It's just such mellow, happy music (for the most part) that makes you relax and smile. I wish my music school would do a semester on each album - that would be way cool.... images/icons/smile.gif

Traveling Wilburys Vol.1 is my favorite in terms of a whole. I do think it has less weaker spots than Vol.III, but Vol.III has two of my favorite Wilbury songs: "Inside Out" and "If You Belonged To Me". They both have it all, relaxing, funny music made by guys who were obviously having fun at the studio. Love it. images/icons/smile.gif

I forgot to mention: the two volumes 1 and 3 PLUS Nobody's Child fit on one CD-R.
Sadly, the complete official Wilbury output is just a tad longer than a CD-R:
Volume 1 + extended versions of Handle With Care and End Of The Line from UK 12-inch & CD singles
Nobody's Child from the Romanian appeal single
Volume 3 + New Blue Moon (instrumental vers) + Runaway, the latter two from the She's My Baby single.
When Olivia and Dhani get around to a George "Boxed Set" I hope it includes a lot of Wilbury outtakes. Then the whole world (rather than a lucky few) can hear Like A Ship (Bob Dylan) and Maxine (George Harrison) the two great unreleased Wilbury treasures. Was there ever a sadder song than Maxine?

Vol 1 is one of those super things that only rarely comes along. It is almost unique. Vol 3 has some great moments but it suffers from George not being so obvious. IMPO.
Maxine - what is that all about? So different from anything else he wrote. Was he copying Dylan's style?

Here is a link to a good discography.
I have "Recovered Treasury" which is a great bootleg, especially for the last bit as of 22.

Pics of the various video clips but mind you some don't fit to the correct song, I have written ages ago to the guy who made this site, but he never adjusted it

Old Moon - yeah it's a typical story, this Maxine lyrics huh, looks like George lost somebody. Very Dylan-ish.
Maxine lyrics
It was late in the month of November,
She was loading up the wagon in the rain.
Said she'd be back in the morning,
But she never came through here again.
I'd see her in the market,
She never had much to spend,
These days the market's an old pile of mud
And she never came through here again.
Maxine, Maxine, Maxine, Maxine.
Time plays tricks on your memory,
It seems a long weekend,
She said she'd be back here by Monday,
But she never came through here again.
Some say a sorcerer landed, (?!)
And someone took her in,
They found her blue seraph here on the ground
And she never cam through here again.
Maxine, Maxine, Maxine, Maxine.
Maxine, Maxine, Maxine, Maxine.
I bought a tabloid paper,
She was rumoured to be in,
Was a photo of a woman on a llama,
But she never came through here again.
And if you should see her,
She may be old by then,
Tell her that I miss her and ask her when
She's ever coming through here again.

Vol. 1 is a great album, and I would say their best. Vol.3 is great too, but the first album is slightly stronger IMO. But saying that I probably listen to Vol. 3 the most because it is the only one I have on CD.

I'd say that Vol. 1 has less weak spots than Vol. 2. Vol 1. was like an unexpected gift. Just so lovely.

I can help out here FPSHOT:
The lines Some say a sorcerer landed, (?!)
And someone took her in,
They found her blue seraph here on the ground <font size="2" face="Tahoma, Arial, sans-serif">should be
Some say a saucer landed,
And someone took her in,
They found her blue serape on the ground ...
The saucer is a flying saucer ... so Maxine may have been abducted by aliens!
A "serape" is a type of brightly-colored shawl. The word has three syllables.

I remember getting Vol.1 when it first came out, and just listening to it over and over again, this is one of the best albums ever, IMO. I like vol. 3 also, but I think it really suffers with the loss of Roy. images/icons/frown.gif

I got volume 1# about one year ago at a used CD shop, what a find! I have heard Volume #3 but I much prefer #1. You can hear a lot of George on it, great slide and acoustic playing. Just a fun, fun album.

I love them both. Volume I, I think is definitely better than Volume III, plus it has my favorite Wilbury song Handle With Care on it, but for some reason, like Edmund, I have listened to Vol III more.
Vol I is magical and has a freshness and spontanaity to it that Vol III could not match, but as one reviewer said, Vol III "rocks more and the jokes are better". And I love Dylan and Harrison together on Where Were You Last Night. Plus Georgie's Inside Out bit, She's My Baby bit and the one on The Devil's Been Busy. Also his slide, particularly on Poor House.
I don't really find that Roy's absence makes Vol III worse, just different. I know some will disagree. I don't think those songs would have been right on Roy.
I love them both for different reasons. Which one I listen to depends on my mood. Right now though, I've been listening more to Vol I.

Vol 1 and Vol 3 are both great albums. Though I think that Vol 1 is a bit better than vol 3. Maybe since Roy passed away before the album was made or something like that. Vol 3 is still a great album has some great songs on it. Travelling Wilburys are a great band what other band has George, Dylan, Roy,Jeff Lyne and Tom Pettty. You will never find a line up like that again. I can listen to the albums over and over again.
Everyones doing the wilbury twist.

graemlins/images/icons/mad.gif * graemlins/images/icons/mad.gif *Does anyone have any or heard any
news of re-releasing Vol.1 and 3?
This would seem obvious with George's departure.
Thanks. images/icons/cool.gif

No news on that. The only news about re-releases so far is about his solo albums.

Just curious, anyone know how the songs/albums did in the charts?
I know I have heard these songs on the radio over the years and liked them but I never new who they were and I have never really followed charts. And I really didn't buy any music from 1980 until my huge splurge in the last 9 months.

I can look it up, but maybe our friend Wolf can lend a hand here, he is an expert on charts.
I will write him a PM.
