Time to make a new topic after close to 2500 views.
I'm just listening to the one I would choose for today;
George's goes country again
What a fantastic song, I have about 5 different versions, so I don't know which is playing now, but Pete Drake's steel guitar is very much involved.
The backing vocals are fantastic.
Amazing this one did not make the original album.
I Live For You
ALL ALONE IN THIS WORLD OF MINE,
NOT A CARE FOR THIS WORLD HAVE I,
ONLY YOU KEEP MY EYES OPEN WIDE,
YES, IT'S TRUE, I LIVE FOR YOU.
NOT A THING IN THIS WORLD DO I OWN,
ONLY SADNESS AND MOURN THAT IS GROWN
IN THIS DARKNESS I WAIT FOR THE DAY,
YES, IT'S TRUE, I LIVE FOR YOU.
THROUGH MANY TEARS I'VE WAIT,
THROUGH MANY TEARS I'VE WEEPED.
ALL THIS TIME MY THOUGHTS RETURN TO YOU,
GIVE MY LOVE THAT IS ALL I CAN DO,
WAIT IN LINE TILL I FEEL YOU INSIDE,
YES, IT'S TRUE, I LIVE FOR YOU
THROUGH MANY YEARS I'VE WAIT,
THROUGH MANY TEARS I'VE WEEPED.
ALL THIS TIME MY THOUGHTS RETURN TO YOU,
GIVE MY LOVE THAT IS ALL I CAN DO,
WAIT IN LINE TILL I FEEL YOU INSIDE,
YES, IT'S TRUE, I LIVE FOR YOU.

A true gem that would have made ATMP an even better album. In fact, any album would have been better with this song on it.

A little close to country is my next choice, for this Sunday;
If Not For You
Not Harrison written, but still very different than the Dylan original.
Nice ATMP combination of the mouth organ, acoustic guitar, Pete Drake's pedal steel guitar and keyboards.
This song really has what George calls the ATMP Echo sound.
If not for you
Babe, I couldn't even find the door
I couldn't even see the floor
I'd be sad and blue, if not for you
If not for you
Babe, the night would see me wide awake
The day would surely have to break
It would not be new, if not for you
If not for you, my sky would fall
Rain would gather, too
Without your love I'd be nowhere at all
I'd be lost, if not for you
If not for you
The winter would hold no spring
Couldn't hear a robin sing
I just wouldn't have a clue, if not for you
If not for you, my sky would fall
Rain would gather, too
Without your love I'd be nowhere at all
I'd be lost, if not for you
If not for you
The winter would hold no spring
Couldn't hear a robin sing
I just wouldn't have a clue, if not for you
If not for you

Today my choise is
Here Comes The Sun
because of another sunny day in Rotterdam.
And because I played part of Abbey Road this morning and this one is also really that album sound, with George introducing the moog.
The fresh guitar chord picking was also pretty much made clear during the Bangla Desh concert.
I love the ending of the song, which is a real ending.

"Here Comes The Sun" is one of my favorites off of Abbey Road. Definitely a classic.
Here Comes The Sun
(Harrison)
Here comes the sun,
Here comes the sun,
And I say it's all right.
Little darling,
It's been a long cold lonely winter.
Little darling,
It feels like years since it's been here.
Here comes the sun,
Here comes the sun,
And I say it's all right.
Little darling,
The smiles returning to the faces.
Little darling,
It seems like years since it's been here.
Here comes the sun,
Here comes the sun,
And I say it's all right.
Sun, sun, sun, here it comes...
Sun, sun, sun, here it comes...
Sun, sun, sun, here it comes...
Sun, sun, sun, here it comes...
Sun, sun, sun, here it comes...
Little darling,
I feel that ice is slowly melting.
Little darling,
It seems like years since it's been clear.
Here comes the sun,
Here comes the sun,
And I say it's all right.
It's all right.

Dedicated to a dedicated member and friend, today's song is
Savoy Truffle
In fact a combination of weird words, which turned in to a lovely song.
The sax section later would be a 'regular' on various songs, but at that time was still rather new. So we have a song about Eric and a song with Eric on the same album.

Today's song is one he wrote for Olivia
Dark Sweet Lady
He used the theme of The Ballad Of Sir Frankie Crisp for the leading melody line.
A lovely love song.
My dark sweet lady
You really got to me
You gave me everything
I've really fallen.
You came and helped me through
When I'd let go
You came from out the blue
Never have known what I'd done without you.
My dark sweet lady
Your heart so close to mine
You shine so heavenly . . . and
I love you dearly.

Today my suggestion is
Red Lady Too
which is an instrumental track from the Wonderwall Album.
Many forget this album and start with ATMP. Don't, there are some nice tunes on it.
I have always loved this Red Lady Too.
It is such a nice melody, piano leading, amazing George wrote this.
It's more a TV series tune. I always thought of the Theme of 'The Pursuaders' that show with Roger Moore and Tony Curtis, which sounds a little like it.

Today I choose a song which could have been written in this time, strange hardly anyone seems to do it.
George spoke some wize words which may be looked at in Washington, London, Paris and Bagdad, and maybe just around the corner.
The Day The World Gets Round
The day the world gets 'round
to understanding where it is,
Using all it's found,
to help each other, hand in hand
The day the world gets 'round
to understanding where it's gone
Losing so much ground
killing each other, hand in hand
Such foolishness in man
I want no part of their plan - OH NO
If you're the destructive kind
Now I'm working from day to day
As I don't want to be like you
I look for the pure of heart
And the ones that have made a start,
But Lord, there are just a few
who bow before you,
in silence they pray,
Oh how they pray for the day
the world gets 'round
Using all they've found
To help each other, hand in hand
The Day The World Gets 'Round

Today I suggest
That Kind Of Woman
A rocking song, sometimes making we link to Vatican P2Blues, recorded by not just some guitarists; Gary Moore and Eric Clapton.
SHE'S THAT KIND OF WOMAN, NO DOUBT ABOUT HOW SHE FEELS.
SHE'S HOLDING PROMISES, HER EYES WON'T TELL,
HER LIPS ARE SEALED.
AND I LIKE HER LIKE THAT,
SHE'S KIND OF CRAZY.
I THINK I KNOW WHAT I'M LOOKING FOR, THAT KIND OF WOMAN.
I THINK I KNOW WHAT I'M LOOKING FOR, THAT KIND OF WOMAN.
STANDING IN THE DOORWAY WITH THE SUNLIGHT IN HER HAIR,
JUST WATCHING THE WIND BLOW, YOU KNOW,
SHE DON'T HAVE A CARE.
I LIKE HER LIKE THAT,
'CAUSE SHE'S KIND OF CRAZY.
I THINK I KNOW WHAT I'M LOOKING FOR, THAT KIND OF WOMAN.
I THINK I KNOW WHAT I'M LOOKING FOR, THAT KIND OF WOMAN.
SHE'S GOT TO LOOK SO COOL, YOU KNOW WHAT I MEAN.
GOT THE WICKEDEST SMILE THAT I'VE EVER SEEN.
I CRASHED MY HEART ON THE SIDE OF THE STREET THAT SHE STOOD ON,
SHE'S THAT KIND OF WOMAN.
I LIKE HER LIKE THAT,
SHE'S PRETTY AMAZING.
I UNDERSTAND WHY I WANT SOME MORE, THAT KIND OF WOMAN.
ONE LOOK FROM HER KNOCKS ME ON THE FLOOR, THAT KIND OF WOMAN.
SHE'S THAT KIND OF LADY THAT YOU MEET IN A DREAM OF DREAMS.
SHE'S ALWAYS IN THE SHADOW, BUT YOU KNOW,
THIS WOMAN'S REAL.
AND I LIKE HER LIKE THAT,
'CAUSE SHE'S KIND OF CRAZY.
I THINK I KNOW WHAT I'M LOOKING FOR, THAT KIND OF WOMAN.
I THINK I KNOW WHAT I'M LOOKING FOR, THAT KIND OF WOMAN, MM.
I THINK I KNOW WHAT I'M LOOKING FOR, THAT KIND OF WOMAN.
I SAID, I KNOW WHAT I'M LOOKING FOR, THAT KIND OF WOMAN.
THAT KIND OF WOMAN,
THAT KIND OF WOMAN.
THAT KIND OF WOMAN.
THAT KIND OF WOMAN.
THAT KIND OF WOMAN.
THAT KIND OF WOMAN.
THAT KIND OF WOMAN.
THAT KIND OF WOMAN.

Today I would say
Tired Of Midnight Blue
A wonderful song, not really Hari style, but pretty much influenced by Leon I think.
The sun came into view
As I sat with the tears in my eyes
The sun came up on you
And as you smiled, the teardrop, it dried
I don't know where I had been
But I know what I have seen
Made me chill right to the bone
Made me wish that I'd stayed home along with you
Tired of midnight blues
The sun came up so high
And as it shone, I realized your love
The sun shone in your eyes
And as you smiled, you realized it too
Don't know where I had been
But I know what I have seen
Made me chill right to the bone
Made me wish that I'd stayed home with you
Tired of midnight blues
Don't know where I had been
But I know what I have seen
Made me chill right to the bone
Made me wish that I'd stayed home with you
Tired of midnight blues
The sun went down the sky
Way up the clouds told me that they knew
The moon came up so high
And as you smiled, I knew that you knew too
Don't know where I had been
But I know what I have seen
Made me chill right to the bone
Made me wish that I'd stayed home with you
Tired of midnight blues
I don't know where I had been
But I know what I have seen
Made me chill right to the bone
Made me wish that I'd stayed home with you

Today I suggest to listen to
It's What You Value
which is even a bit like George going Disco, with the drums doing a mid 70's disco beat in some parts and George going to a falsetto voice.
Nice one. I will bring forward the storytellers topic again.
Someone's driving a 450
And his friends are so wild
They're still in their stick shifties
But they feel they have much more style
But I've found . . .
It's all up to what you value
Down to where you are
It all swings on the pain you've gone through
Getting where you are
It's all up to what you value
In your motor car
It all rests on what it's cost you
Getting where you are
It's what you value
Someone's driving a 6-wheeler
Seems the world is all blurred
Knows he's in a show stealer
With a sound that's uncompared
And I've found
It's all up to what you value
Down to where you are
It all swings on the pain you're gone through
Getting where you are
It's all up to what you value
In your motor car
It all rests on what it cost's you
Getting where you are
It's what you value.

Sunshine Life For Me
from one of the best solo albums, sort of cowboy song as it became, with vocals running through eachother and many guitars
UH-HOO!
IT'S A SUNSHINE LIFE FOR ME,
IF I COULD GET AWAY FROM THIS CLOUD OVER ME,
SEEMS TO JUST FOLLOW ME AROUND.
IT'S A SUNSHINE LIFE FOR ME,
IF I COULD GET AWAY FROM THIS CLOUD OVER ME,
SEEMS TO JUST FOLLOW ME AROUND.
THERE'S A GOOD LIFE HAD FOR FREE,
WHEN YOU'RE OUT IN THE COUNTRY.
THAT'S WHAT I COULD USE,
IF I COULD GET AWAY THERE SOON.
IT'S A SUNSHINE LIFE FOR ME,
IF I COULD GET AWAY FROM THIS CLOUD OVER ME,
SEEMS TO JUST FOLLOW ME AROUND.
THERE'S A GOOD LIFE HAD AT SEA,
IF YOU'RE NOT IN THE NAVY.
THAT'S THE LIFE FOR YOU,
SAIL AWAY, RAYMOND, SAIL AWAY.
HO!
AH!
NOW MOST FOLKS JUST BORE ME,
ALWAYS IMPOSING
AND I´D RATHER MEET A TREE
SOMEWHERE OUT IN THE CORNFIELD.
AND IT'S A SUNSHINE...
IT'S A SUNSHINE LIFE FOR ME,

is equal to the love you made."
I've always been a bit uneasy about the wording of this. The love you TAKE, the love you made.
At the very least I've always thought it should be 'and in the end the love you take is equal to the love you GAVE'. Reaping a great 'cosmic' reward for the amount of lovemaking you did seems to be a bit of scoreboard watching. Maybe I'm misinterpreting what Paul meant.

I Dig Love
I dig love,
I dig love,
I dig love.
Hm, I dig love in the morning,
I dig love in the evening,
I dig love and I want you to know I dig love.
I love dig,
I love dig,
I love dig.
Hm, I love dig in the morning,
I love dig every evening,
I dig love and I want you to know I dig love.
Small love, big love, I don't care,
Love's all good love to me.
Left love, right love, anywhere love,
There's a rare love, come on and get it, it's free.
I dig love,
I dig love,
I dig love.
Hm, I dig love in the morning,
I dig love in the evening,
I dig love and I want you to know I dig love.
Bought love, short love, in any port,
Love's always there to see.
Make love, take love, but you should give love
And try to live love, come on that's where you should be.
I dig love,
I dig love,
I dig love.
Hm, I dig love in the morning,
I dig love in the evening,
I dig love and I want you to know I dig love.
Yes, I want you to know I dig love,
Yes, I want you to know I dig love,
To know I dig love,
Yes, I do,
I dig love. (repeat and fade)

Today another ballad, with some very nice lyrics of a wise man, who now is looking at the world and probably doesn't like what's going on.
This is from an album which is hardly discussed but is different from other Hari albums whereas the combination of piano and the little amount of instruments used gives a very close feeling.
Scan not a friend with a microscopic glass
You know his faults, now let the foibles pass
Life is one long enigma, my friend
So read on, read on, the answer's at the end
Don't be so hard on the ones that you love
It's the ones that you love we think so little of
Don't be so hard on the ones that you need
It's the ones that you need we think so little of
The speech of flowers excels the flowers of speech
But what's often in your heart, is the hardest thing to reach
And life is one long mystery, my friend
So live on, live on, the answer's at the end
Don't be so hard on the ones that you love
It's the ones that you love we think so little of
Don't be so hard on the ones that you need
It's the ones that you need we think so little of
Don't be so hard on the ones that you love
It's the ones that you love we think so little of
Don't be so hard on the ones that you need
It's the ones that you need we think so little of
Oh, we think so little of the ones that we love, sometimes
Isn't it a pity how we hurt
The ones that we love the most of all
The ones we shouldn't hurt at all
You know my faults, now let the foibles pass
'Cause life is one long enigma, my friend
Live on, live on, the answer's at the end
Don't be so hard on the ones that you love
It's the ones that you love we think so little of
Don't be so hard on the ones that you need

Don't be so hard on the ones that you love
It's the ones that you love we think so little of
Don't be so hard on the ones that you need

And isn't it a pity how
We hurt the ones that we love (fade)

Great, great choice. Extra Texture is such an awesome album, and too often overlooked. I think of that song so often, too.
George gave us great goals!
For today, The Day the World Gets Round. Great message...George uses his voice in a dramatic way here, too.

Good choice HC.
From the album that used to be on my record player all the time:
The day the world gets 'round
to understanding where it is,
Using all it's found,
to help each other, hand in hand
The day the world gets 'round
to understanding where it's gone
Losing so much ground
killing each other, hand in hand
Such foolishness in man
I want no part of their plan - OH NO
If you're the destructive kind
Now I'm working from day to day
As I don't want to be like you
I look for the pure of heart
And the ones that have made a start,
But Lord, there are just a few
who bow before you,
in silence they pray,
Oh how they pray for the day the
world gets 'round
Using all they've found
To help each other, hand in hand
The Day The World Gets 'Round

How about the title track, "Living in the Material World".
I love this one, with the break in tempo which also appears in the new Brainwashed title track. It is used to empahsize spirit in both.

Nice choice, HC. One of my favorites from his early solo career.
Living In The Material World
I'm living in the material world,
Living in the material world.
Can't say what I'm doing here
But I hope to see much clearer,
After living in the material world.
I got born into the material world.
Getting worn out in the material world.
Use my body like a car,
Taking me both near and far.
Met my friends all in the material world.
Met them all there in the material world.
John and Paul here in the material world.
Though we started out quite poor,
We got 'Richie' on a tour,
Got caught up in the material world.
From the Spiritual Sky,
Such sweet memories have I
To the Spiritual Sky
How I pray, yes I pray
That I won't get lost or go astray.
As I'm fated for the material world,
Get frustrated in the material world.
Senses never gratified,
Only swelling like a tide,
That could drown me in the material world.
From the Spiritual Sky,
Such sweet memories have I
To the Spiritual Sky
How I pray, yes I pray
That I won't get lost or go astray.
While I'm living in the material world,
Not much 'giving' in the material world.
Got a lot of work to do,
Try to get a message through
And get back out of this material world.
I'm living in the material world,
Living in the material world,
I hope to get out of this place
By the LORD SRI KRSNA'S GRACE,
My salvation from the material world.

Reading "I, Me, Mine", I came across this reference in the familiar "It's What You Value"...
"Someone's driving a six-wheeler
which is a reference to the six wheeled Elf Tyrrell Formula One recing car that appeared in 1976/77."
Here is a nice site with pictures of this car, which was 'new' at the time. You can see why George and others were so impressed, when you can compare it with others at the time.

Amazing, that six wheeler.
It's What You Value can stay as song of the day.
Someone's driving a 450
And his friends are so wild
They're still in their stick shifties
But they feel they have much more style
But I've found . . .
It's all up to what you value
Down to where you are
It all swings on the pain you've gone through
Getting where you are
It's all up to what you value
In your motor car
It all rests on what it's cost you
Getting where you are
It's what you value
Someone's driving a 6-wheeler
Seems the world is all blurred
Knows he's in a show stealer
With a sound that's uncompared
And I've found
It's all up to what you value
Down to where you are
It all swings on the pain you're gone through
Getting where you are
It's all up to what you value
In your motor car
It all rests on what it cost's you
Getting where you are
It's what you value.

Unless you have the original Songs by George Harrison, you will only find this song on bootlegs, a shame really.
I do think that this is one of the better george songs from the 80's at least till Cloud Nine.
Yes great slide guitar throughout the song.The serene music, works well with the lyircs of finding Krishna and kissing it all goodbye, (the material world). But I admit I never really looked into the lyrics of the song to deeply. Shame on Warner for not giving this song a chance to be heard by a greater audience.

Sat Sing is George's pun on the Hindu tradition of Satsang. Here is a good link talking about Satsang~

We have this at SRF. Amazing, some devotees who have occassionally even been at satsang with the president of SRF, and passed their notes along...just wonderful, loving, insightful and pointed information. In fact, in India, SRF is called YSS~ Yogoda Satsang Society. images/icons/smile.gif

Sat Singing
One of the 'rejected', and as I have said before, just those are considered by many Hari Fans as the best of George's eightees songs.
Lovely slide guitar and the company of Willie Weeks, Ray Cooper, Neil Larsen and Jim Keltner is a guarantee for musical quality.
Strange still that these fantastic recordings remain rather silent and seem to disappear to the bootleg audience.

One of my favorites of George's is "You". Originally written for Ronnie Spector in 1971, George re-worked it for his Extra Texture LP. The words are relatively simple but the meaning of them is what gets me.
You
(one, two,
one, two, three, four)
I, I love, love,
And I, and I love you.
Oh you, you, yeah you.
And you, you, love, love,
And you, yes you, you love me.
Yeah you, you, yeah you.
And when I'm holding you
What a feeling.
Seems so good to be true,
That I'm telling you all
That I must be dreaming.
And I, and I, I love you,
Oh you, oh you, yeah you.
And when I'm holding you
What a feeling.
Seems so good to be true,
That I'm telling you all
That I must be dreaming.
Now I, oh I, I love, love,
And I, yeah I, I love you, I love you.
Oh you, you, oh you.
Oh, you know that I love you, oh oh oh,
Oh, you know that I love you, I love you,
I, I said I love you.

This is my personal favorite from the Beatle years, this one and "Here Comes the Sun."
I WANT TO TELL YOU
I want to tell you
my head is filled with things to say.
When you're here,
all those words, they seem to slip away.
When I get near you
The games begin to drag me down.
It's all right
I'll make you maybe next time around.
But if I seem to act unkind
It's only me, it's not my mind.
That is confusing things.
I want to tell you
I feel hung up and I don't know why
I don't mind, I can wait forever,
I've got time.
Sometimes I wish I knew you well
Then I could speak my mind and tell you
Maybe you'd understand.
I want to tell you
I feel hung up and I don't know why
I don't mind, I could wait forever,
I've got time, I've got time.

Mar 29, 2003, 10:49 PM
I think this is a very intense, profound song.
SEE YOURSELF
It's easier to tell a lie than it is to tell the truth.
It's easier to kill a fly than it is to turn it loose.
It's easier to criticize somebody else
Than to see yourself.
It's easier to give a sigh and be like all the rest
Who stand around and crucify you while you do your best
It's easier to see the books upon the shelf
Than to see yourself.
It's easier to hurt someone and make them cry
Than it is to dry their eyes.
I got tired of fooling around with other people's lies
Rather I'd find someone that's true.
It's easier to say you won't than it is to feel you can
It's easier to drag your feet than it is to be a man
It's easier to look at someone else's wealth
Than to see yourself.

Today I say
Life Itself
There are many real George songs, but this one really could be an advertisement on 'what is George Harrison'
Why?
I want to tell you; Describe George in a few words and you have like
- guitars
- religion
- quality composing
- love
- harmony
So - guitars, again the overwelming sound of the various guitars used in a song, the acoustics, the slide, the electric, it's all there
So - religion, it is directed to the 'you' and he sais it so well, which today's songwriter would come up with 'You are the breath of life itself, oh yes you are', or 'They call you Christ, Vsnu, Buddha, Jehovah, Our Lord. You are, Govindam, Bismillah, Creator of All.
Quality composing - the whole of the song, the combination of the instruments, the backing vocals, the simple but lovely oeh's, the slide guitar that leads through the song
Love - change a few words or leave a few out and it is wonderful love song you can sing to anyone you love. How many have heard this song in the beginning thinking the 'you' was Olivia, or Dhani.
Harmony - just listen and you will know what I mean.
You are the One
You are my love
You send the rain and bring the sun
You stand alone and speak the truth
You are the breath of life itself, oh yes you are
You are the One
You're in my dream
I hold you there in high esteem
I need you more each step I take
You are the love in life itself, oh yes you are
You are the One
You are the one that I'd die for
And you're all that is real
You are the essence of that which
We taste, touch and feel
You are the One
No matter what
You are the real love that I've got
You are my friend and when life's through
You are the light in death itself, oh yes are
You are the One
They call you Christ, Vsnu, Buddha, Jehovah,
Our Lord
You are, Govindam, Bismillah, Creator of All
You are the One
No matter what
You are the real love that I've got
You are my friend and when life's through
You are the light in death itself, oh yes are
You are the One
You are my love
You send the rain and bring the sun
You stand alone and speak the truth
You are the breath of life itself, oh yes you are
You are the breath of life itself, oh yes you are
You are the One

When the sunshine is not enough
To make me feel bright
It's got me suffering in the darkness
That's so easy come by on the road-side
Of one long life-time
It's got me deep blue
You know I'm deep blue
When you stand there, watch tired bodies
Full of sickness and pain
To show you just how helpless you really are
When you get down to the truth
It hurts me
It's got me deep blue
You know I'm deep blue
When I think of the life I'm living
Pray God help me; give me your light
So I can love you and understand
This repetition that keeps me here
Feeling deep blue
It's got me deep blue
You know I'm deep blue

One of the best songs from Travelling Wilburys Vol. 3. The video does have its moments too.
Inside Out
Look out your window.
That grass ain't green,
It's kinda yellow.
See what I mean?
Look up your chimney.
The sky ain't blue,
It's kinda yellow.
You know it's true.
(It's so hard to figure what it's all about)
When your outsides in (inside out)
And your downsides up. (upside down)
Yeah, your upsides right. (rightside up)
Yeah, don't it make you wanna twist and shout
When you're inside out.
Look down your drain pipe.
What color do you see?
It's got to be yellow,
Don't try to fool me.
(And don't it make you wanna twist and shout)
When your outsides in (inside out)
And your downsides up. (upside down)
Yeah, your upsides right. (rightside up)
Yeah, don't it make you wanna twist and shout
When you're inside out.
Be careful where you're walking,
You might step in something rough.
Be careful where you're talking,
And saying all that stuff.
Take care when you are breathing
Something's funny in the air.
And somethings I'm not saying
'Bout what's happening out there.
It's inside out.
Look into the future
With your mystic crystal ball.
See if it ain't yellow.
See if it's there at all.
(Ain't no shadow or a doubt)
(Don't it make you wanna twist and shout)
When your outsides in (inside out)
And your downsides up. (upside down)
Yeah, your upsides right. (rightside up)
Yeah, don't it make you wanna twist and shout
When you're inside out.
(Inside out)
(Right side up)
Yeah, don't it make you wanna twist and shout
When you're inside out.
Inside out,

A nice song to begin the week with~ "It Is He (Jai Sri Krishna)"
It Is "He" (Jai Sri Krishna)
Jai krishna jai krishna krishna
Jai krishna jai sri krishna
Jai radhé jai radhé radhé
Jai radhé jai sri radhé
Jai krishna jai krishna krishna
Jai krishna jai sri krishna
Jai radhé jai radhé radhé
Jai radhé jai sri radhé
He whose eyes have seen
What our lives have been
And who we really are
It is 'He'
Jai sri krishna
He whose sweetness flows
To anyone of those
That cares to look His way
See His smile
Jai sri radhé
He who is complete
Three worlds at His feet
Cause of every star
It is 'He'
Jai sri krishna
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
When George sings "Three worlds at His feet" he is refering to this aspect of Hindu belief, regarding Lord Krishna...
"three worlds: The three worlds of existence, triloka, are the primary hierarchical divisions of the cosmos. 1) Bhuloka: "Earth world," the physical plane. 2) Antarloka: "Inner or in-between world," the subtle or astral plane. 3) Sivaloka: "World of Siva," and of the Gods and highly evolved souls; the causal plane, also called Karanaloka."
Love You To
A very up-tempo Indian recording from 1966
Each day just goes so fast
I turn around, it's past
You don't get time to hang a sign on me
Love me while you can
Before I'm a dead old man
A lifetime is so short
A new one can't be bought
But what you've got means such a lot to me
Make love all day long
Make love singing songs
Make love all day long
Make love singing songs
There's people standing 'round
Who'll screw you in the ground
They'll fill you in with all their sins, you'll see
I'll make love to you
Let me in here, I know I've been here
Let me into your heart
Let me know you, let me show you
Let me roll it to you
All I have is yours
All you see is mine
And I'm glad to hold you in my arms
I'd have you anytime
Let me say it, let me play it
Let me lay it on you
Let me know you, let me show you
Let me grow upon you
Let me in here, I know I've been here
A Spiritual day, so a spritual song
The Inner Light
There was some talk about Raga Marwa and a link to Blue Jay Way is mentioned. But, even though Ravi has done various Raga's, what I hear at the start of Raga Marwa directly reminds me of The Inner Light.
For today, from a very sunny Rotterdam, my song is
Here Comes The Sun
share your views on this one.
It actually was the start of many acoustic based songs that George did. This one came through in the Abbey Road concept album with a lot of orchestra, but like Miss O'dell, Apple Scruffs and some others, he knew his way with the simple acoustic songs.
graemlins/clap3.gif Here Comes the Sun was my very first favorite song, when I was four, and didn't even know about the Beatles. Amazingly, years later, and through no soliciting on my part (honest) it became my son's favorite song when he was maybe around two and a half. So, it is very special to me. (It also got me through a lot of stormy weather as a teen.)
Oh, another thought...George looks really sexy at the Prince's Trust singing this, too!!
Today my suggestion is to get Gone Troppo album in the air again and because - again - a nice sunny day in Rotterdam, a song of good harmonies and sunny atmosphere is good for the B&B.
(Yeah) You, I really really love you
Nobody else will do
That's why I love you
That's why, why, why
(Yeah) You, I really really love you
Nobody else will do
That's why I love you
That's why, why, why
Well babe you know I love you so
I'd pay the world if you could know
And when I see, you're comin' down the street
My heart skips (a) beat
You, I really really need you
But yet you play me for a fool
Why do you do me like you do, do, do
(Yeah)
Well babe you know I love you so
I'd pay the world if you could know
And when I see, you're comin' down the street
My heart skips (a) beat
You, I really really need you
But yet you play me for a fool
Why do you do me like you do
Why do you do me like you do
Why, why
See one of the parts about George;
"The Beatles had seen a show I was in, Oh! What a Lovely War -- it caused a bit of sensation -- and George Harrison said, 'Oh, Vic. You've got to be in our film. If you're not in our film, me Mom won't come because she fancies you.'
I agree, it was like a thingie they prably enjoyed doing in the studio.
Simon Leng writes;
At least 10 separate voices are recorded and mixed with great clarity. With no guitars, this is a unique item in Harrison's body of work, and it's a charming return trip to more innocent days.
George's vocal
I want to tell you
My head is filled with things to say
When you're here
All those words they seem to slip away
When I get near you
The games begin to drag me down
It's all right
I'll make you maybe next time around
But if I seem to act unkind
It's only me, it's not my mind
That is confusing things
I want to tell you
I feel hung up and I don't know why
I don't mind
I could wait forever, I've got time
Sometimes I wish I knew you well
Then I could speak my mind and tell
Maybe you'd understand
I want to tell you
I feel hung up and I don't know why
I don't mind
I could wait forever, I've got time
I've got time
Great song. A bit of a benchmark for George, as it was the first time he had an opening track on an album, and it was a big step towards him being taken more seriously as a writer.
And I agree, the bass is played particularly well (I think Paul Weller and the Jam might agree with that too! graemlins/wink1.gif *)
One, two, three, four...
Hrmm!
One, two, (one, two, three, four!)
Let me tell you how it will be;
There's one for you, nineteen for me.
'Cause I'm the taxman,
Yeah, I'm the taxman.
Should five percent appear too small,
Be thankful I don't take it all.
'Cause I'm the taxman,
Yeah, I'm the taxman.
(If you drive a car, car;) - I'll tax the street;
(If you try to sit, sit;) - I'll tax your seat;
(If you get too cold, cold;) - I'll tax the heat;
(If you take a walk, walk;) - I'll tax your feet.
Taxman!
'Cause I'm the taxman,
Yeah, I'm the taxman.
Don't ask me what I want it for, (ah-ah, Mister Wilson)
If you don't want to pay some more. (ah-ah, Mister Heath)
'Cause I'm the taxman,
Yeah, I'm the taxman.
Now my advice for those who die, (Taxman)
Declare the p0ennies on your eyes. (Taxman)
Yeah, I'm the taxman.
Move on to
Beware Of Darkness
such a beautiful song, coming from thé album.
I just see him standing there, in NYC, doing this song, the eyebrows so serious like only he can, the band so concentrated on performing, the backing vocals, so good, Leon, so unexpected coming in on vocals but look at him he is so 'inside' the song. And when you think you've seen it all, there comes that fantastic guitar solo, so full of harmony, almost like a violin.
Watch out now, take care
Beware of falling swingers
Dropping all around you
The pain that often mingles
In your fingertips
Beware of darkness
Watch out now, take care
Beware of the thoughts that linger
Winding up inside your head
The hopelessness around you
In the dead of night
Beware of sadness
It can hit you
It can hurt you
Make you sore and what is more
That is not what you are here for
Watch out now, take care
Beware of soft shoe shufflers
Dancing down the sidewalks
As each unconscious sufferer
Wanders aimlessly
Beware of Maya
Watch out now, take care
Beware of greedy leaders
They take you where you should not go
While Weeping Atlas Cedars
They just want to grow, grow and grow
Beware of darkness (beware of darkness)
Moon,
As we all know, George Harrison was a poet and he set his poetry to music and expressed very profound thoughts in a brilliant way. People can relate to what he says. For years, I used to "let George do the talking for me."
Yeah, I still maintain that George Harrison was an outstanding poet. Too bad my then English teacher and classmates thought otherwise. (I just answered naturally and at the time I did not consider the fact that others might not view my answer favorably).
Boy, was I graemlins/blush2.gif graemlins/blush3.gif
And yeah, I agree. I just answered honestly and I maintain that answer to this day.
One of my all time favorite songs is Faster. That song makes me feel good all over. I really love it.
"Faster" is a great song. George made a rare appearance on bass for this one. Released in the UK back in 1979, it failed to make the charts. If it had been released in the US as a single, I'm sure it would have been a Top 10 hit.
Faster
Chose a life in circuses,
Jumped into the deepest end.
Pushing himself to all extremes,
Made it - people became his friend.
Now they stood and noticed him,
Wanted to be part of it.
Pulled out some poor machinery,
So he worked 'til the pieces fit.
The people were intrigued,
His wife held back her fears.
The headlines gave acclaim,
He'd realized their dreams.
Faster than a bullet from a gun,
He is faster than everyone.
Quicker than the blinking of an eye,
Like a flash you could miss him going by.
No one knows quite how he does it
But it's true they say,
He's the master of going faster.
Now he moved into the space
That the special people share.
Right on the edge of do or die,
Where there is nothing left to spare.
Still the crowds came pouring in,
Some had hoped to see him fail.
Filling their hearts with jealousies,
Crazy people with love so frail.
The people were intrigued,
His wife held back her fears.
The headlines gave acclaim,
He'd realized their dreams.
Faster than a bullet from a gun,
He is faster than everyone.
Quicker than the blinking of an eye,
Like a flash you could miss him going by.
No one knows quite how he does it
But it's true they say,
He's the master of going faster.
No need to wonder why,
His wife held back her fears.
So few have even tried
To realize their dreams.
Faster than a bullet... (repeat chorus)
Great song, even for people not into the racing buisnis. Again some nice slide, very uplifting song. The lyrics could not just apply to racing but also to stardom, or anyone who became famous, has it made, and then gain "friends" just because they are famous, people becoming jealous.
Today, time for
Heading For The Light
Co-written with Jeff, this one of the Wilbury contributions which is a little more than the acoustic guitars round the kitchen table.
Jim Horn is very present here, as also the backing vocals.
The lyrics refer to Hari's career (my hands were tied, Jokers and fools on either side,
But still I kept on till the worst had gone
Now I see the hole I was in)
I've wandered around with nothing more than time on my hands
I was lost in the night with no sight of you
And at times it was so blue and lonely
Heading for the light
Been close to the edge, hanging by my fingernails
I've rolled and I've tumbled through the roses and the thorns
And I couldn't see the sign that warned me, I'm
Heading for the light
Ooh - I didn't see that big black cloud hanging over me
And when the rain came down I was nearly drowned
I didn't know the mess I was in
My shoes are wearing out from walking down this same highway
I don't see nothing new but I feel a lot of change
And I get the strangest feeling, as I'm
Heading for the light
Ooh - my hands were tied
Jokers and fools on either side
But still I kept on till the worst had gone
Now I see the hole I was in
My shoes are wearing out from walking down this same highway
I don't see nothing new but I feel a lot of change
And I get the strangest feeling, as I'm
Heading for the light
I see the sun ahead, I ain't never looking back
All the dreams are coming true as I think of you
Now there's nothing in the way to stop me
Heading for the light
Now there's nothing in the way to stop me
Heading for the light
Nothing much can go wrong, if you take a Wilbury tune you're about to enjoy some great music. This song however is something more, almost a solo George song, the reason is it's lyrics, again a bit autobiographical.
That's what I love about George so much, that his lyrics are so personal. He didn't write lyrics just to make them rhyme, they were written from the heart.
And I agree, he was very strong. He faced many obstacles in his life, and always with dignity.
From the heart and autobiographical. He even admits that. So strange when you think how private he was and then he just reveals 'all' in his songs.
"Heading For The Light" has always been my favorite track from Traveling Wilburys Vol.I besides "Handle With Care", of course, which has become somehow the Wilbury National Anthem or something like that... "Heading For The Light" features an interesting melodic line (in sort of a jumping beat, like "All Those Years Ago"), with all that biographic content that everyone has been mentioning before. I think the element that's present here and in many other George songs, expressed differently of course, is the main concern in George's life... the search for God, and with it, the Wisdom, the total Love and all the spiritual blessings that such a thing could mean. George "heads for the light", and possibly is whole life means a search for the total light, which is God, or the spiritual state that George wanted to reach. He did reach it, with his music, his heart and his soul, while living in this world... and now he is with God (whichever religion you may support), he's part of everything, and perhaps, he is the Light, too. images/icons/smile.gif
Very mystical, very powerful. Moving and trascendental. Great, GREAT song. images/icons/smile.gif
Also reflecting to his personal (Beatle) life a lot, but then at the badge where the tempo slows down he gets to his nice way of living, the spiritual way of life.
What I like so much here is the sort of 'duet' he does with his bottleneck guitar and the sax.
"Living In The Material World"... I think it was a way of putting it all out... everything that happened with The Beatles, the past life... leave it all behind, a way of chasing down the inner demons, taking them out, in a softer way than what John did in Plastic Ono Band for instance. And today I would advise you George lovers to have a listen to
Apple Scruffs
another one of his acoustic beauties.
Simon Leng writes some interesting words on it and I copy
"It's part of the unique phenomenon of rock music that its fans are not content to be mere consumers, but need to be a part of the experience"
(reading this, I think he is right, in fact most of what we do here is about that)
"When Harrison sings 'How I Love You' to his fans, the reality of his feeling is not doubted"
You may have read the book written by real Apple Scruffs, I have it, well you will know what Simon means.
Enjoy this song.
I still remember, listening to the album, shortly after release, 1970, good year, sun shining, then this one comes along and you cheer up. Thinking hey where's all the 3 drums, bass, trumpets, echo, Spector, electric guitars. Fine with me, I hear you George loud and clear.
Then years later 'bootlegs' come across and you hear him speaking of the trouble he had playing the mouth organ, with all the hair in the way, moustache, beard.
You've been stood around for years
Seen my smiles and touched my tears
How it's been a long, long time
And how you've been on my mind, my Apple Scruffs
Apple Scruffs, Apple Scruffs
How I love you, how I love you
In the fog and in the rain
Through the pleasures and the pain
On the step outside you stand
With your flowers in your hand, my Apple Scruffs
While the years they come and go
Now, your love must surely show me
That beyond all time and space
We're together face to face, my Apple Scruffs
Apple Scruffs, Apple Scruffs
I know it has all been said before, but this song reveals so much about the real George. How many in his position would even notice that it was the same individuals in the rain and cold nights. He took their presence as support not an invasion. Beautiful words from a man who was not naturally equipped to deal with this level of fame.
Indeed! How many singers/artists do you know that can appreciate the fans as much as that? Sure, there's the "thank you" in the stages, while touring... but there are really few chances for an artist to really thank his fans or followers... if he really feels that they deserve it for appreciating his job. George surely felt that, and that only makes one feel that he was a beautiful human being.
The lyrics to this song reflect the simplicty of the subject... but then they are so tender that you can still feel that tenderness all around, through the mouth organ (beard, moustache images/icons/wink.gif ) and the multi-layered guitars.
One of my faves from my fave album. images/icons/smile.gif
You send the rain and bring the sun
You stand alone and speak the truth
You are the breath of life itself, oh yes you are
You're in my dream
I hold you there in high esteem
I need you more each step I take
You are the love in life itself, oh yes you are
You are the One
You are the one that I'd die for
And you're all that is real
You are the essence of that which
We taste, touch and feel
You are the One
No matter what
You are the real love that I've got
You are my friend and when life's through
You are the light in death itself, oh yes are
You are the One
They call you Christ, Vsnu, Buddha, Jehovah,
Our Lord
You are, Govindam, Bismillah, Creator of All
You are the One
No matter what
You are the real love that I've got
You are my friend and when life's through
This story is from Yogananda's 'Autobiography of a Yogi'~~~
Descending the long stairway, I was overwhelmed by memories. This house at 50 Amherst Street, now the residence of Master Mahasaya, had once been my family home, scene of my mother's death. Here my human heart had broken for the vanished mother; and here today my spirit had been as though crucified by absence of the Divine Mother. Hallowed walls, silent witness of my grievous hurts and final healing!
My steps were eager as I returned to my Gurpar Road home. Seeking the seclusion of my small attic, I remained in meditation until ten o'clock. The darkness of the warm Indian night was suddenly lit with a wondrous vision.
Haloed in splendor, the Divine Mother stood before me. Her face, tenderly smiling, was beauty itself.
"Always have I loved thee! Ever shall I love thee!"
And these are the words of George's song~
Mother Divine
Mother Divine, Mother Divine, Mother Divine
Hallowed in splendor, oooh
Her face tenderly smiling too
Was beauty itself and I know that she loves me
Mother Divine, Mother Divine, Mother Divine
Circled in Sunlight
Her eyes joyfully shining through
Is beauty itself and I know that she loves me
Mother Divine, Mother Divine, Mother Divine
We seem to forget the songs from Brainwashed, so although I would love to do "Marwa Blues" it may be that a dear friend of whom I am so happy he is writing here again may say 'that is not a song'.
So, I go for
Stuck Inside A Cloud
which came to me whilst looking at some wonderful skies and thinking about what may be in there.
Also it reminds me of the first time I heard this song and I became so emotional because I still believe you can hear in the voice of George on this one, that his voice was losing strength.
The slide parts here are amazing, sometimes even sort of 'jumpy'.
And as for the lyrics, well conclude yourself.
Never slept so little
Never smoked so much
Lost my concentration I could
even lose my touch
Talking to myself
Crying out loud
Only I can hear me
I'm stuck inside a cloud
I made some exhibition
I lost my will to eat
The only thing that matters to me is to
touch your Lotus Feet
Talking to myself
Crying out loud
Only I can hear me
I'm stuck inside a cloud
Talking to myself
Crying out loud
Only I can hear me
I'm stuck inside a cloud
Never been so crazy
But I've never felt so sure
I wish I had the answer to give
Don't even have the cure
Just talking to myself,
Crying as we part
Knowing as you leave me
I also lose my heart
Talking to myself,
crying as we part
Knowing as you leave me
I also lose my heart
And the verse:
Talking to myself
Crying as we part
I thought were some of the saddest lyrics I'd ever heard in a song.
I thought I detected a slight weakness in his voice also but he masked it so beautifully with his expressive and soft vocals.
"Marwa Blues" sure is a song. And what a piece of a song. Personally, it was my song for the last year. Why is it a song? Well, it has a melodic pattern to follow, an instrumental arrangement and even a concept, which mixes beautifully, throughout the melody and the accompainment, an ambient of relaxing (beach, etc.) and spirituality. After George's death it became even more touching... as it represented a state of mind with solemnity and trascendence. Needless to say, when I first heard it, it almost drove me to tears. What a beautiful piece of music, orchestral preciousness, a hidden gem. If it doesn't win the Grammy Award for Best Instrumental this year, it will just prove another time that these critics don't know anything of anything.
The important thing is that, for us at least, it's such a fantastic song. I love it, and it's probably my favorite in Brainwashed. images/icons/smile.gif
So, I go for
Stuck Inside A Cloud<font size="2" face="Tahoma, Arial, sans-serif">OK, OK, you changed the switch... images/icons/tongue.gif
"Stuck Inside A Cloud", to me, also represents an important emotional moment, since it was the first song we heard from Brainwashed. I remember vividly that first day when we could hear it with the guy saying "AOL MUSIC - FIRST LISTEN" and crappy sound quality. It was still powerful. George's vocal was, at the same time, powerful and extremely vulnerable, and the theme was definitely his illness. Someone tried to neglect this fact, but when you cut the lyrics with scissors (like I love to do sometimes images/icons/grin.gif ) you get that feeling... we did that with an italian friend who you all may remember ( images/icons/smile.gif ) a long ago, and we came to that conclusion. Some verses, like
Never been so crazy
But I've never felt so sure
Wish I had the answer to give,
Don't even have the cure
just confirm the fact that this is a wave-goodbye song, but at the same time another one that reafirms the spiritual stability that George reached through his passing, and the certainty that it gave to his life. Even though he was experiencing some inner troubles and doubts ("crying out loud") he still feels that this is what God wants. And prepares to that with dignity and a humble spirit.
OK, enough rambling. Isn't this one of the best George slide guitar solos ever? I put only "Leave A Light On For Me" and "This Is Love" over this. Precious, moving and perfectly fitting the mood of the song. images/icons/smile.gif
Thanks for the suggestion. Another Brainwashed session follows now. images/icons/smile.gif
Stuck Inside a Cloud is simply beautiful. When I first heard it, I cried. It seemed like George was saying so much about what he was going through, but he also had a bit of wit about it. I mean, how many people sing a song about their understanding of where they will be in a short time, how much it means to go there, and how they feel currently? Not a common subject at all. I agree that it showcased how strong George's spiritual resilience was. He seemed to have this unbelievable acceptance, and he seemed almost ready- and obviously these lyrics reflect what he always believed about "this world" and "that world."
The guitar playing is, as always, just beautiful.Its a gorgeous song. Its a bit disappointing that it never really got the kind of commercial attention I feel it deserved, but then...nowadays the kind of crap that gets to #1 is hardly worth listening to. I feel George's music on Brainwashed, and any album for that matter, is just too rich, beautiful, and deep for any Top 40 radio anyway.
Perhaps people will one day understand the beauty and depth in even one of his songs is far more prevalant than a handful of those other things they can't get enough of.
It has a melodic pattern to follow, an instrumental arrangement and even a concept, which mixes beautifully, throughout the melody and the accompainment, an ambient of relaxing (beach, etc.) and spirituality. <font size="2" face="Tahoma, Arial, sans-serif">these are words that go together well (sorry Legs)
Some verses, like
Never been so crazy
But I've never felt so sure
Wish I had the answer to give,
Don't even have the cure
just confirm the fact that this is a wave-goodbye song, but at the same time another one that reafirms the spiritual stability that George reached through his passing, and the certainty that it gave to his life. <font size="2" face="Tahoma, Arial, sans-serif">very true, also seen in
Just talking to myself,
Crying as we part
Knowing as you leave me
I also lose my heart
which is wave goodbye one.
Isn't this one of the best George slide guitar solos ever? I put only "Leave A Light On For Me" and "This Is Love" over this. <font size="2" face="Tahoma, Arial, sans-serif">HC and I are preparing a new topic on 'best solo' so stay on.
<font size="2" face="Tahoma, Arial, sans-serif">One can argue. The album got a lot of attention I would say. There was no single, so the 'usual' media didn't pick it up but I believe then it would have faded away behind the Rappers Of Delight of today, like so many records do.
George did not release for the media, he released when he wanted and knew 'we' would be waiting and the 'we' crowd is BIG.
Look at all the message boards, forums, call 'em what you like, look at WinMX and try to download a Harrisong or Harriclip. It's busy out there.
It's a private communitee, Harrifans.
On the tongues subject... I just don't like to use that many smilies, so I stay with the ones I knew from before... that tongue one was pretty useful at times like this... images/icons/wink.gif
"Behind That Locked Door", someone said? I love the guitar (is that hawaiian - I don't know the technical name) to that one. images/icons/smile.gif This one remembers me of a spanish-written poem about a father who asks his girl "why are you so sad? why did you get your bird out of its jail?" or something like that (I hate translations!) It's like talking to someone whose suffering you do know and recognize, and still try to comfort him.
Please forget those teardrops,
Let me take them for you
How beautiful. The comforting words are inforced for that high vocal "cryyyyyyyyy-ing", "teaaaaaaaaaaaaaar-drops". Trying to take the suffering out of the loved ones is something very humble, very human and very... George. I suppose this came from a personal experience, who knows. But it sounds very human.
I've heard so much Paul last week, I really needed some George today images/icons/smile.gif
After reading al this I had to put Brainwashed in de cd player and listen to 'Stuck Inside a Cloud' again (but that's what this suggestion in all about.., isn't it).
George did not release for the media, I know. The more surprised I was when I found out that some of my friends (ha!, they never even admitted that they liked George images/icons/wink.gif ) bought this album and loved it too.
The lyrics combined with his (as Darkhorse said)powerful and extremely vulnerable voice just gives me shivers.
I just heard this song on the radio, which is
That Kind Of Woman
recorded by both Eric Clapton and Gary Moore, even close after eachother, a song in the range of Cheer Down and Vatican P2Blues.
I prefer Gary's version, there's plenty of them guitars in there. Eric, as with Run So Far, seems to have a problem to get an optimal production out of Harrisongs. Somewhat soft I would say.
SHE'S THAT KIND OF WOMAN, NO DOUBT ABOUT HOW SHE FEELS.
SHE'S HOLDING PROMISES, HER EYES WON'T TELL,
HER LIPS ARE SEALED.
AND I LIKE HER LIKE THAT,
SHE'S KIND OF CRAZY.
I THINK I KNOW WHAT I'M LOOKING FOR, THAT KIND OF WOMAN.
I THINK I KNOW WHAT I'M LOOKING FOR, THAT KIND OF WOMAN.
STANDING IN THE DOORWAY WITH THE SUNLIGHT IN HER HAIR,
JUST WATCHING THE WIND BLOW, YOU KNOW,
SHE DON'T HAVE A CARE.
I LIKE HER LIKE THAT,
'CAUSE SHE'S KIND OF CRAZY.
I THINK I KNOW WHAT I'M LOOKING FOR, THAT KIND OF WOMAN.
I THINK I KNOW WHAT I'M LOOKING FOR, THAT KIND OF WOMAN.
SHE'S GOT TO LOOK SO COOL, YOU KNOW WHAT I MEAN.
GOT THE WICKEDEST SMILE THAT I'VE EVER SEEN.
I CRASHED MY HEART ON THE SIDE OF THE STREET THAT SHE STOOD ON,
SHE'S THAT KIND OF WOMAN.
I LIKE HER LIKE THAT,
SHE'S PRETTY AMAZING.
I UNDERSTAND WHY I WANT SOME MORE, THAT KIND OF WOMAN.
ONE LOOK FROM HER KNOCKS ME ON THE FLOOR, THAT KIND OF WOMAN.
SHE'S THAT KIND OF LADY THAT YOU MEET IN A DREAM OF DREAMS.
SHE'S ALWAYS IN THE SHADOW, BUT YOU KNOW,
THIS WOMAN'S REAL.
AND I LIKE HER LIKE THAT,
'CAUSE SHE'S KIND OF CRAZY.
I THINK I KNOW WHAT I'M LOOKING FOR, THAT KIND OF WOMAN.
I THINK I KNOW WHAT I'M LOOKING FOR, THAT KIND OF WOMAN, MM.
I THINK I KNOW WHAT I'M LOOKING FOR, THAT KIND OF WOMAN.
I SAID, I KNOW WHAT I'M LOOKING FOR, THAT KIND OF WOMAN.
THAT KIND OF WOMAN, (a couple of times)
On the radio? In Holland?
I had never heard this song before until you mentioned it to me last year.
Great song and I also prefer Gary's version more then Eric's.
Today is a very good day for a cheerful song, Chant And Be Happy is the motto,
This Is Love
George, Jeff, Jim and Ray here form the four in this track from Cloud 9.
The slide guitar is all over the song and also produces a solo which (yes Darkhorse) is high on the ladder of 'best solo solo ever'.
Us George addicts also will have some additional love for this song because of the video.
And even though when a non-Beatles person reads these lyrics he/she may say; yeah right, all the lalala's, to me at least it's just not bothering, because he slides it into the true word 'love'.
This Is Love 1987
Precious words drift away from their meaning
And the sun melts the chill from our lives
Helping us all to remember what we came here for
This is love, this is la la la-la love
This is love, this is la la la-la love
Little things that will change you forever
May appear from way out of the blue
Making fools of ev'rybody who don't understand
This is love, this is la la la-la love
This is love, this is la la la-la love
This is love, this is love
This is love, this is la la la-la love
Since our problems have been our own creation
They also can be overcome
When we use the power provided free to everyone
This is love, this is la la la-la love
This is love, this is la la la-la love
This is love, this is la la la-la love
This is love, this is la la la-la love
Oh, this is love, this is la la la-la love
This is love, this is la la la-la love (repeat and fade)
I also liked Gary's version of "That Kind Of Woman" better. It's like there's a whole breath of fresh air in that one, whilst Eric's is more "tired", for lack of a better word. I do believe that this is a very rare George song, and I would definitely kill for hearing a demo of him singing it. I imagine him doing a vocal similar like the one he used in "Absolutely Sweet Marie" or even "Got My Mind Set On You", with the horn arrangements that were provided to him in tracks like "Horse To The Water". Interesting, bluesy track...
"This Is Love" I really like. I'd say it's my favorite on Cloud Nine which is something really meaningful to me, since I love almost all of the songs in that album. Jeff shares songwriting credits and you can clearly note it: the song itself is a pop gem, with a catchy melody and chorus, but throughout all of this optimistic environment, George sends the message of the simplicity and complexity of love. And, moreover, he performs one of his best slide guitar solo's ever. Love it. images/icons/smile.gif
That Kind Of Woman: I have not heard of a bootleg version by George (yet). I imagine it would have started on an acoustic guitar, then thinking who was gonna do it and changed guitars. The rythum is similar to e.g. Badge too. The chords are not really the usual 4, it does have the chords which Eric often uses. The middle break is really George, he does that in Living In The Material World, Brainwashed, Photograph, It don't Come Easy and more.
As to your comments Darkhorse on this is love, I would say George used a drum machine to get the song going on demo, like Jim Keltner said about Got My Mind ... that George just ticked a drum tempo on a table or so, to start a session. The music score has a lot of ELO/Jeff in it. The whole Cloud 9 album is full of the well known Jeff Lynne method of having the end of a lyric line followed by an up or downwards ticking of piano strings, 4 beats. (sorry don't have the right words for that). As also Simon Lang writes, the "from way out of the blue" including the echo is really an ELO album thing.
About the lyrics, he actually based this song on the following three sections;
Precious words drift away from their meaning
And the sun melts the chill from our lives
Helping us all to remember what we came here for
Little things that will change you forever
May appear from way out of the blue
Making fools of ev'rybody who don't understand
Since our problems have been our own creation
They also can be overcome
When we use the power provided free to everyone
Now;
"Precious words drift away from their meaning
And the sun melts the chill from our lives"
isn't this a perfect way to describe what happens to someone who comes to the conclusion that the thing he feels for a woman, or she for a man, is the real thing and not just another flame?
" May appear from way out of the blue
Making fools of ev'rybody who don't understand "
plenty of examples here, sudden divorces, man runs away with other woman, suddenly you meet someone and say YES, how many men/women find out they're gay/lesbian round their 40's (not me, but it is a proven thing)
"Since our problems have been our own creation
They also can be overcome"
so very true, but not often put to words. Each problem has a cause and maybe George refers to one of his own, just telling this in this song to someone who will understand when he/she reads it.
And all that, built around the word which George refers to as " making us all do remember what we came here for".
Yes my friends, we are on this planet in this life, to love and experience love.
Just some thoughts.
So here we are talking about the way George writes lyrics and then I want to put a Today's Song on which I listened to from the Yin & Yang bootleg version, which is built with less poetic lyrics
You
Recordings of this song started during the All Things Must Pass sessions, but George only released it years later and even as a single.
Good Badfinger type of acoustic guitar basics and I sometimes wonder if it would have been better to have done it one key lower on the ladder. He better not had done this one on Dark Horse and the 1974 tour.
Hey, here's Gary again.
(one, two,
one, two, three, four)
I, I love, love
And I, and I love you
Oh you, you, yeah you
And you, you, love, love
And you, yes you, you love me
Yeah you, you, yeah you
And when I'm holding you
What a feeling
Seems so good to be true
That I'm telling you all
That I must be dreaming
And I, and I, I love you
Oh you, oh you, yeah you
And when I'm holding you
What a feeling
Seems so good to be true
That I'm telling you all
That I must be dreaming
Now I, oh I, I love, love
And I, yeah I, I love you, I love you
Oh you, you, oh you
Oh, you know that I love you, oh oh oh
Oh, you know that I love you, I love you, I, I said I love you
