There were rumors that there would be another wilbury album in the near future, befor George got sick. How likely do you think it might be that George left instruction or song demos or something for this like he did for Brainwashed? Maybe Bob, Tom and Jeff could get together for one last tribute single?
Someone get me Bob dylan on the phone!

I think if a wilbury song was to be done it would need george actually playing on it as it would'nt feel right.I think they lost something when roy orbison died that they never fully got back!

I thought there was going to be a Wilbury box set called Maximum Traveling. Can anyone shed any light on this?

I'd like it if they did something like that! I'm sure there's some unreleased stuff floating around, too!

I only know of the song Maxine. A George song intended for an Wilbury album but never officially released. Don't think there's more then that or it would have seen the light on bootlegs by now.

What do people think of the song Maxine? For my money it's a bit rambling.

Bit of a mess, too much guitars and unfinished I'd say.

I like the song Maxime, but yes the mix is a bit of a mess. It just needs some remixing to be released.
Question to FPSHOT & Hari's Chick btw. Leave this topic here, or has it turned enough into the bootleg lane?

I love Maxine!! it is brillinat, and has some amazing GH vocals!! youve got to remember it is just a demo, the sound quality of the bootleg is not very good at all..imagine it with some drums, and crystal clear acoustics, and some electric George overdubs!! listen to the words!! "some say a saucer landed!!" anyway, there are heaps of wilbury outtakes and unreleased songs!! some paul simon covers, some stuff with del shannon on it (yes, this really exsists, even though he WASNT ever inetended to be lefty's replacement) b sides, like runaway, and completly new songs like "Like a ship".. GH had been working with jeff Lynne in his last few months on this very project.. the wilburys Will travel again!!

Yeah, I think there is quite a bit! One of the Paul Simon covers is "Run That Body Down", and the three with Del Shannon have DS singing the lead~~~ which sounds quite interesting~ can you imagine? Very cool!

I'm not sure and I can not check right now, but Walk Away was a single, others probably Runaway and The Troubler.

I was just browsing this old topic.
I'm quite fond of Maxine. It is sort of Bob Dylan style isn't it? Something a bit different to George's usual work. I can't see why it would be rejected. It has to be better than some that did make it and just needed a bit of work to make it very good.
FPSHOT said 'Walk Away' was a single. I missed that one obviously. Second album B-side, I'm presuming. I have what must be a boot. Is the voice all Del Shannon or can I hear Jeff in there? Doesn't sound like the Wilbury's. Very ELO sounding to me. (Not that there's anything wrong with that. images/icons/wink.gif )

Maxine - I find the song too full of 12 string guitars, it is too overwelming.
Del Shannon - here is a link to his single discography which has Walk Away on it. I have a demo of it which is indeed Del, but Jeff was a key playere on that and did most of the instrumentation and backing vocals.
Thanks for bringing this up.

<font size="2" face="Tahoma, Arial, sans-serif">I think that the guitars are boring. Not that it is for me to be critical - but that is how I hear it. Surely that could be fixed.
Did Del Shannon release the single or the Wilbury's? Is it a cover? Who wrote it?

Sorry, I forgot the link
http://www.delshannon.com/singles.htm
Walk Away is a Shannon/Petty/ynne composition.
Here is some more which I picked up from a website;
"
His last CD release was ROCK ON! produced by Mike Campbell and Jeff Lynne and released posthumously opening with Walk Away, written by Shannon, Lynne, and Petty. The finale track was Del`s own Let`s Dance, a rollicking country flavored rocker featuring a fiddle solo. The musicians were basically the same as those who played on Petty`s Full Moon Fever"
Also here is a time frame;
October 1991
Released Del Shannon's LP "Rock On" the year after his death. Jeff produced 6 songs from this album "Walk Away", "Who Left Who", "Are You Lovin' Me Too", "Lost In A Memory", "I Got You (The Bird's Song)" and "Let's Dance". Also Jeff Lynne & Tom Petty co-write "Walk Away" with Del Shannon.

That list says 'Walk Away' 1989 and 1991. Was he a serious contender for the vacant spot in Wilbury's? This is about the time he died??
George played guitar on Full Moon Fever. He doesn't seem to have had any input here.
Sorry if I sound like someone who has just discovered the Wilbury's.

From what I read Del Shannon has been considered indeed when Roy passed away,.
The Shannon sessions were on their way already between I believe Volume 1 and 3. This is without checking.

As for Full Moon Fever - George played on a track that had slide, but someone else did the slide. I'm interested in what others think of that slide.

From what I know he did no do that before the time that the Wilburys got together.
So either Tom asked him to or Mike was impressed by George. I believ having read that George liked Mike's work.
I'm not sure but I think Mike also played slide when they helped Roy Orbison on his Mystery Girl album.
Mike is okay, he is a great guitarist, but ...

Jun 27, 2003, 11:46 PM
Saltwater - yes George played a solo for Julian which was not entirely used.
But, let Julian explain himself about that.
Here is a part of an interview with Julian
Q - Who's playing slide guitar on the record, it sounds like George Harrison.
A - No, it's not George. I had originally done the slide solo and Bob (Ezrin) and I thought that it's that kind of a song, why don't we at least see if George would even consider it. So we sent the tapes over but unfortunately he was with Eric Clapton just after his son died so it was a very tragic point in their lives. And George was not that focused, why should he be? But he did throw down a couple of ideas. So what we did was we took 3/4 of my solo, a 1/4 of George's solo and threw them in a pot and had someone else play it who was Steve Hunter, a brilliant guitarist who's played with Alice Cooper and Lou Reed.
Nothing to add here.
Here is some more of the interview for those who are interested;
