View Full Version : What's your funniest George moment ?

I like when he says something nasty about someone in an interview because he says it so casually and without intending to be mean about it. Like when he said that Madonna did not have a sense of humour...

From "Yellow Sumarine":
"It's all in the mind..."

From "Help !":
The scene when a cage drops on John & Paul. George just says "I'm off...", runs away & leaves them there !

But I fall down laughing every time I see the opening of "A hard day's night". When he's running, with both hands in his pockets, trips and takes a nasty tumble on the sidewalk only to have Ringo trip over him. And all John can do is laugh his head off ! Priceless, and to think that it was not planned but still kept in the final print !

There are so many, but the one that stands out at the moment is in Help! when the lads are looking for Ringo & shouting his name. Well, you know the bit where George beats on his chest & yells "Riiiingooooo!"

My favorite comment of good old Georgie's came from Bob Freeman's book:

G: Remember that house we stayed in at Harlech?
P: No, which one?
G: Yes you do, there was a woman who had a dog with no legs. She used to take it out in the morning for a slide.

In an interview from 63, George was telling reporters about jelly babies and how he got hit in the eye and (holding his finger over his eye), "I haven't been the same since."
Hilarious.
I also love the "Morcambe and Wise" show thing someone already mentioned.
There's tons of funny blurbs of his in "Anthology."

Another one from late 80's/early 90's? He and Eric Clapton are being interviewed and a reporter said "What's this about a Beatle reunion" and George says something like, "Oh Paul starts that up every time he's got a new album coming out." He says it so flatly, it makes me laugh just writing it.

There are so many from Anthology...especially the parts outside on the lawn. Just thinking of that grin makes me laugh!
One of my all time favorites is on David Frost where he asks if George ever still sees any of the other Beatles. George says he saw John the other night. David Frost says, "What did you say to him???" And George says, ".....hi."

Oh, and where DF asks him if he used to get all the girls, being the quiet one....hehehehe

It was funny when Paul asked him if he wrote anything while on retreat and George just ignored him and didn't answer until Ringo asks him again by holding out his thumb (as a microphone). I wonder if that was intentional..dissing Paul like that. http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/laugh5.gif

I really don't have too many funniest George moments, although there is no doubt in my mind he could be a funny guy. But there are two that stick out.

In the promo video for Hello Goodbye, there is a part where he's in between Paul and John and is taking his jacket/shirt off...but its the way that he does it! He's pretending to strip, and he gives the sexiest look. It is hillarious.

Also, that whole shirt scene from A Hard Day's Night is just subtley amusing. I love his face when he's checking out the lady's legs.

With George, its just the very casual stuff that can be very funny for me. He doesn't put much effort into it, but his facial expression is enough.

I'm a Ringo-ist with a soft spot for George...here's my scenes...

AHDN - the train sequence when Ringo's complaining about Paul's grandpa pulling his leg, and George goes dead on: "You've got an inferiority complex, you have..." - he look on his face still makes me crawl laughing.

Also the "he comes from a large family" line, at AHDN.

And the whole "insurance" sequence between him and John at Help, before they shrink Paul...

<HR></BLOCKQUOTE>I agree with what you say about George's humor. I think it was funny because it was unexpected. Whenever John or Ringo spoke or did anything, I think people expected them to be funny. With George though, the barbs come from nowhere and you are right about his facial expressions. In Help, when he says, "What's that little thing coming out of the guy's stomach?"

The cage comes down on John and Paul, George yells, "I'm out of here," and runs out just as the car with Ringo starts driving away. The whole car scene is just so funny, especially, "Thanks for the lift, sailor!"

In Yellow Submarine, he's on the mountain with "Love You To," the expression on his face just made me really laugh, and also, when he steals Ringo's car. http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/laugh2.gif
Also, when he says, "It's all in the mind, y'know," and right before that, when they're hiding in the little hut on the hill, he tells Ringo to keep the noise down, then afterwards, everyone was shushing him. I always kind of make fun of that by saying he was a hypocrite (of course not really--just a little joke)
After Only a Northern song, when there's the big purple animal, and he covers his face and says, "Oh...he looks wrong...he's horrible."

Everyone has mentioned so many good ones! http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/thumbsup1.gif

ABCKO, I never realized that him falling down at the beginning of AHDN wasn't in the script! No wonder John was laughing so hard! It's hilarious! http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/laugh1.gif

MonaMe577, I remember that quote about the dog! That was the funniest thing in the whole book. And it's interesting that Freeman used it as his "last word" on George.

BrazilianFlag, the "insurance" thing is so cute! After John goes, "I wouldn't think of it!", I love how George lowers his head in shame for that split second.

And IamtheWalrus, I've done that frame-by-frame thing, too. The expression on his face is priceless!

And now, here are two of my favorite moments. In the "Help!" promo video, the camera is on George when all the fake snow starts falling. There's a TON of it, and the look on his face is hilarious! I think he even forgets to sing one of the lines because he's just staring at the buckets of fake snow pouring down on them.

And in "HELP!" (you knew I had to include something from "HELP!"), I can't believe no one has mentioned the part where he takes a bite out of the cymbal! http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/teeth1.gif

I love all of the ones you guys have mentioned. With the others it's so obvious when they pull something, but our George wows ya every time.

1)The fiendish thingie bit from Help! He practically tackles Ringo to the ground!
2)The part where they are on the bikes in Help, where after Paul says, "I'm Game," George goes; "Yeah! Lets SMASH 'em!"
3)"No, you're the ones with the big fat hairy heads."From Morecambe and Wise, then he makes a sound like "Ta-da-da-da!" The look on his face is priceless.
4)George falling down in AHDN
5)The part at the end of the shirts bit, where he goes "Sorry about the shirts!"
6) In the Shakespeare skit, where he shakes his head no when Ringo and Paul speak.
7)When he is doing his speech as Moonshine, and he tells one of the hecklers to shut up or he will kick his butt.

George is just awesome. Beautiful and awesome.http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/smile.gif

I completely agree with all of these! In an attempt to avoid reposting, I'll list the ones I didn't notice anywhere above:
1)"They're talkin' about your finger you know" from Help!
2)The whole scene where George "shaves" Shake!
3)The way George fiddles with the girls strap in AHDN when talking about Ringo Leaving
4)In Help!, when John gives them a "wake-up-call" and he stays in bed, pretending to do his calisthenics
5)When they are in the temple under the rock in Help!, the way he's looking at Kahili trying to get his arms to do that
6)Also in Help!(can you tell my fave Beatle movie?), in the bar when he pretends to be unable to find his wallet

that's all of the top of my head, but there's so many more!

I don't think anyone included this one yet, either...

From Help!:
Ringo: We can't go back! They'll disembowl us!
George: They won't disembowl us, you see. That's all gab, disembowl...

Just the way he SAYS it is SO funny!!

I think it's safe to say that we loved everything about George. There was just something in the way he moved. http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/wink.gif

He was a beautiful man.

George talking about Kylie Minogue in 1988:
"It's a sorry situation when the only decent thing in the charts is Kylie Monologue. That song she did 'I am your U-Boat' (The Locomotion) was all right. At least she looked nice and sang well."

Paul Simon:
"There in the middle of a field of wildflowers (at Friar Park) were two huge boulders weighing several tons and standing one atop the other like a pair of giant granite acrobats. "Are those the work of a sculptor?" I asked. "No," said George, "They came from opposite ends of the property, but we moved them here and stacked them in this field. When Ringo came round for a visit last summer, he asked about them and I told him that Paul's record company had sent them as a promo for his new album, 'Standing Stone'. Ringo was really miffed that he hadn't gotten his standing stones, and I said they'd probably only sent them to A-list people."

THere was one I almost forgot about. In the Beatles Anthology book, George mentions the moment when he pulls some girl off to the side at a party and sticks his tongue down her throat (Or snogs her as he says), was the defining moment that John (who witnessed I guess)finally respected him.

Kinda makes you go HMMM..... http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/wink2.gif

I know I've mentioned this before on another thread, but there's a part on one of the Anthology videos where they're all talking about the 2nd Shea concert. Paul states a number (regarding how many fans were there), Ringo states another number, and then the camera shoots to George who looks confused and says, "I don't remember going to Shea twice." Man, we watched that over and over at Beatles sleepover parites! http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/smile.gif

In help, I love it when all the people are fighting in the house and George pushes a guy away from John and starts choking John. John says, "It's me you fool!"
George: Oh, sorry!
John: Then stop it! (laugh)

Also in Help, Paul's talking about the many moons to the temple. John says, "Dare I ask how you know?" George says, "Don't encourage him. You've got the part, Paul."

Don't forget all the hilarious things on the US first vist! http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/smile.gif

The grotty shirts in AHDN.

"Don't encourage him. You've got the part, Paul." and "Thanks for the lift, Sailor!" (from "Help!")

That signature dance he did on stage.

I loved it when George did the lead on "I'm Happy Just to Dance With You."

That gorgeous, glorious moptop hair! Aaah, I just love that Beatle!

'they couldn't even get the chords right', whereas the song has the famous 3.

Two more ?

In AHDN, in the train compartiment, when the switches off Ringo's transitor radio... the snear on George's face is priceless, or:

"She's a drag, a well know drag. She's the king of girl that makes you want to turn the sound down on her and say rude things"

Sounds like something the "real" George could have said...
